Japanese common sense is the world's non-common sense.
Hello everyone!
I'm English doctor, Roi Nishizawa.
In this channel, I teach you how to learn English in a non-common sense
so that you can easily change difficult English.
Roi-san,
are there any characteristics of people like this who can't improve their English?
Yes, there are.
Especially, it's hard for commoners to improve their English.
What? Commoners can't improve their English?
Do you think you're a commoner, Tony?
Yes, I'm a commoner.
That's great.
I'm not used to Japanese common sense.
That's why I respect commoners.
You're an alien, aren't you, Roi-san?
Yes, people say that a lot.
But I think I understand common sense.
And I can behave in a certain way.
I think I'm a non-commoner, not a non-commoner.
I think it's important to get out of common sense.
Get out of it?
It's very important to improve your English.
I'd like to think about common sense.
I have a question for you, Tony.
What is common sense?
Common sense is something natural.
I see.
Common sense is what everyone does, what everyone thinks,
what average Japanese people do, right?
Can average Japanese people speak English well?
No, they can't.
In other words, if you don't get out of Japanese common sense,
you won't be able to speak English well.
It's said that you'll regret it,
but it's important to get out of common sense.
So in this video,
I'm going to give you the top 10 common sense that Japanese people should get out of.
I'm going to tell you in a countdown format,
but I'm going to say no to Nishizawa Roi's self-discrimination.
Number 10.
You learn English without sound.
This is especially common when you're a student.
It depends on how you teach.
If you just read English and don't speak it at all,
you'll be slow to improve.
Many teachers emphasize the importance of reading and reading English,
but reading is basic and very important.
And there are quite a few people who don't have a habit of listening to English.
The basis of language is imitation.
By imitating the voice you hear from your ears,
you can speak Japanese.
It's not a good idea to learn English without sound.
Number 9.
You hang out with only Japanese people.
It's not good to hang out with only Japanese people when you're studying abroad,
going to work, and living abroad.
Why is that?
When I was studying in the United States for a year,
I had students from about 30 countries.
Japanese people, or Asians,
tend to hang out with their own people.
Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, and Asians.
There were quite a few of them.
They hang out with Japanese people and Asians.
At night, Asians sing in a group.
Someone starts singing on the guitar.
They all sing together.
Japanese people make a group of Japanese people.
I tried my best not to get involved in that group.
I think I was a bit of a weirdo to other Japanese people.
But I shared a room with Moroccans, Chinese, and Indians.
Australians, Ecuadorians, Spaniards, Koreans, and Ugandans.
I was involved with such international members.
That's my biggest asset.
We watched a movie together.
It was a comedy called Liar Liar.
It was a Jim Carrey movie.
We all watched it together.
The Western team was laughing so hard.
The Asian team was like,
I don't understand.
Including such frustrating experiences,
it was a really good experience to be involved with various members.
It also helped me improve my Japanese.
Number 8.
Katakana pronunciation.
I talked about the fact that Katakana pronunciation is not good in another video.
I'm sure many people agree with me.
But in terms of common sense,
what's deeper is the pressure from the Japanese people around you.
For example, what happens a lot in school classes
is that they deliberately pronounce bad words.
When passionate students try to pronounce English-like words,
the students around them make fun of them.
I think I understand.
This is really a bad Japanese common sense.
For example, when a returning student goes to an efficient junior high school,
they try not to stand out.
They deliberately pronounce Japanese-like Katakana.
There are quite a few cases like this.
If you can pronounce it like a native speaker,
everyone will think it's cool.
Even though they think so,
they pull each other's legs in the opposite direction.
I really don't understand.
Number 7.
Translate into Japanese and understand.
This is also an English learning method that many Japanese people are doing.
First of all, direct translation.
In other words, translating English into Japanese itself is not a bad thing.
That's the basis of learning a foreign language.
But it's just the basics.
As I said in another video,
if you translate everything into Japanese,
on the contrary, it hinders your improvement.
I think there are many cases where learning at school is the cause.
There may be a lot of people who have become accustomed to it.
It's important not to try to translate everything into Japanese and understand it forever.
Number 6.
I think it's an English memorization subject.
This is also a waste of common sense.
Memorization is the return of not understanding.
That's why many people think English is a memorization subject.
I think it's a subject that you don't have to understand English.
For example, I don't know if it's a good example.
Mathematics is also thought to be a memorization subject.
Many people are worse at math than English.
For example, do you know the formula for the area of a triangle?
Is it the bottom multiplied by the height divided by 2?
That's right.
There is such a formula.
Everyone uses it.
There are two types of people here.
One person uses this formula properly.
The other person uses it without understanding it.
If you think it's a memorization subject,
you may try to answer it without understanding it.
On the contrary, people who use it properly think that it is true for the formula.
You may think that both will solve the problem in the same way.
I just gave you an example of a simple formula.
In fact, there are many formulas.
Some of them are difficult to understand.
If you try to memorize all the formulas, it will be very difficult.
That's right.
However, if you are able to understand the formulas one by one,
you will be able to study properly without having a hard time.
Do you understand it properly?
Or do you memorize it and finish it?
You can't see the difference, but it's very important.
Let's go back to English.
Many people think that English is a memorization subject.
But I am convinced that English is a memorization subject.
I've been teaching English for a long time.
There are so many things that I remember that I hate it when I memorize English.
That's why I'm telling you to understand it properly.
Let's stay on the stage of understanding.
So I don't think it's a memorization subject.
Number 5.
Don't talk to strangers.
It may be a little different if you go to the countryside.
Especially in the city, you don't talk to strangers in Japan.
But if you go to the countryside, you can enjoy talking to strangers.
It's a big difference whether you can enjoy such a small opportunity or not.
For example, a conversation with a store clerk.
You can have a casual conversation with a restaurant or a store clerk at a supermarket.
The store clerk will ask you, how are you doing?
Do you end up saying, I'm fine, thank you?
Or do you add a lot of information to yourself and get excited?
You can actively say what you want to say.
That's how you can enjoy communication.
It's going to change a lot.
You can also talk to people you pass by on the street, saying, I like your T-shirt.
It's important to enjoy talking to strangers like that.
Number 4.
Think in Japanese.
There are two meanings to this.
The first is the story of verbs.
I told you about the importance of verbs in another video before.
In Japanese, verbs come last.
But all English sentences start with S, V, subject, and verb.
In other words, after the subject, you suddenly say the verb.
If you translate that into Japanese, it's like, I ate it.
It's like, I think.
From a Japanese perspective, it's a little exaggerated.
If you can speak like that, you'll be able to communicate more easily.
And another meaning.
When you speak in Japanese, you first explain the situation.
Like this, this, this, this.
You explain it over and over again.
You can't come to a conclusion.
Some people don't say the conclusion.
You'll say, let me do that.
In English, first of all, yes, no.
It's important to say from the conclusion.
If you're a businessman, you may already be aware of the fact that you're telling from the conclusion.
So, think in Japanese.
I hope you can get out of Japanese common sense and think in English.
Number 3.
Don't speak in front of people.
This is also true for Japanese people.
For example, I'm doing a English conversation course.
I take time to think about what to say in English.
And after that, there's a share time.
If you say, please announce the English sentence you just thought of,
There are a lot of people who shut up.
It's not like, please speak in English.
Please share your thoughts in Japanese.
If you don't understand something, please ask without hesitation.
Even if you say that, there are a lot of people who shut up.
That's true.
Even if you can't speak in front of Japanese people,
Why can you speak in front of foreigners?
Obey.
If you go abroad, you'll be the same as if you don't have an opinion.
That's why it's important to speak in front of people and have an opinion before that.
I'd like you to get out of Japanese common sense while you're in Japan and try it out.
Number 2.
Take care of people's eyes.
This person's eyes are very tied to Japanese behavior.
And it's a waste of time because it's pulling the legs of English improvement.
For example, I said earlier that I wouldn't speak in front of people.
The reason I don't try to speak English in front of people is because I'm worried about the eyes of the Japanese around me.
I don't want people to think I'm bad at it.
I'm thinking about that.
Yes, I'm thinking about it.
There are other people who are doing online English lessons.
Even if you say, please take advantage of this time more actively,
There are people who say, because I want to be thought of as a good person, and I'm reluctant to do various things.
In the first place, I'm taking lessons to improve my English so that I can get better.
You should demand more and more for that.
But you say, I want to be thought of as a good person.
It's a waste.
And there are people who can't practice what they should do by communicating in a way that fits the common sense.
Even if you take care of people's eyes, your English won't improve by a millimeter.
In addition, there are many people who are concerned about people's eyes who can't speak English.
You care about people's eyes, and you choose not to improve.
It may sound extreme, but I can see that there are many people who do that without thinking deeply.
By all means, I would like you to choose your own improvement more and more without holding back from the people around you.
Now, I will announce the first place.
Number one.
I think English conversation is a catch ball.
Did you think English conversation was a catch ball?
When you have an English conversation, one person asks a question and the other person answers.
Take a reaction to it.
I think there are quite a few people who think it's a catch ball.
It's the same with my own experience, and it's the same with many Japanese English learners.
Even if you can only catch the ball, you don't have that much confidence.
Because if you only play catch balls, you will have to communicate very dependently on the other person.
More than that, if you want to improve your English conversation, if you want to be more confident, you have to be able to talk to yourself.
Can you talk to yourself for a minute or three minutes?
No, I can't.
Are you able to acquire that much expressiveness?
No, I can't.
There are so many people who are weak here.
For example, I think soccer is better than catch ball.
Soccer?
It's like holding the ball yourself and dribbling deep into the enemy.
Catch balls give the ball to the other person right away.
Please think of this ball as a speech.
It's very important to train yourself to be able to keep holding this ball for a long time.
For example, you can talk about what happened yesterday for three minutes.
You can draw everyone's attention for three minutes, and you can even laugh.
If you have that much expressiveness, you can definitely be confident.
But if you think English is a catch ball with that kind of expressiveness, you won't be able to get it.
I want you to be able to keep holding the ball.
I hope you will be aware of that kind of expressiveness.
So, I've introduced you to 10 common common sense that can get in the way of improving your English.
In the first place, this channel teaches you about non-common sense English learning.
That means that if you are trapped in Japanese common sense, it will be difficult to improve your English.
Japanese common sense is the world's non-common sense.
If you are trapped in Japanese common sense, I hope you can get out of it and improve your English even more.
Thank you for today.
I don't talk to people I don't know, I don't pay attention to people's eyes, I think conversation is a catch ball, and I feel like I'm myself.
I'm going to get out of common sense like Roy.
Thank you for today.
