Oh
Like the big man here right just said there I'm pretty sure I speak for every Arsenal fan
We're still riding the wave of beating Manchester City. I've got a big special guest in the building Jordan
What are you telling me bro? You good? I'm good, brother. I'm good. How are you? I'm good, man
I'm good. As I said, I'm still riding the high of the Arsenal City game. Let's get straight into it, man
What did you make in the game? I thought the game was a low quality, but
well
executed
Performance. So I think that to go into the game for full disclosure and transparency
I predicted a City 1-0 win
and I put it to the 1-0 win deluded because I
a
Wasn't confident that we were in a good enough rhythm to be able to overcome a City team
That also was in a great rhythm
But I just think it was more about us not being in a great a form wasn't bad
But it wasn't in our groove. The midfield was a little disjointed
Yes, I wasn't and I think when you play City, I think you have to
Go into the game with a little bit of a groove
I didn't I didn't sense that and my other reason was I didn't I still don't think
We're ruthless enough in both boxes and I think against City. I've seen it in previous games. You can play
Well, I remember the game two years ago the Emirates they beat us in the 93rd minute at the Rodrigo
We outplayed them that game we deserve to not only get a draw
We just have to win that game eluded but that shows me that doesn't matter
No one cares if you're not ruthless in both boxes. It doesn't matter
Yeah, man and I wasn't I wasn't confident that in our box we could keep a clean sheet at home and
In their box the few chances that we would get we would take
But it turns out that actually you don't need rhythm going into the game
With rhythm helps, of course it helps but you just got to on the day perform
I didn't I missed the games I was doing I was doing an event but I watched the game back afterwards and
I think people are correct in saying the quality of the game wasn't particularly high
But my rebuttal to that deluded is a who cares?
I think in that particular match that that didn't I don't care if the neutrals were entertained or not
I don't care about that too many of those games really and she's right and then lost and then the second thing is
I'm more important than that deluded is that's how you beat City. You can't make an exciting basketball game
You can't make we've done that and lost you can't make it a game that's entertaining to the neutral
You can't make it a game where you dominate the ball when you create four or five six chances
That's never gonna happen against Manchester City
You have to make it a game where the margins go your way you have to make it a game
That's almost boring. You have to make it a game where you work hard
You're defensively switched on you're defensively disciplined and when you do get your chance you take it now look the goal is lucky
Let's have it right. The goal is lucky, but it's lucky in a sense of the strike was lucky
It was a flukey shot, but it wasn't lucky in terms of I think we'd earned the right you make it
Oh, yeah, but you do and you work hard enough to be in a position where by 80 minutes a
No, no, it's not a bad result, but you put yourself in a position whereby you could nick it too many games
But I've seen us play City before deluded where it's over at halftime. You haven't even given yourself a chance
It's over in the dressing room really at times that's what was so nice to see a bit of belief
It's over
So for me it was it was lucky in terms of the strike was lucky
But I don't think it was lucky in terms of we allowed ourselves to be in a position whereby the worst-case scenario
Was a nil-nil that would have been a good result, but that's not a bad result
But we you know, you don't shoot you don't score me. We've got a bit of fortune on the strike
So my nice of the game was it was low quality, but for that particular match
I don't mind that on the topic of it being low quality
Why do you think it was was it as you said, you know
Both teams aren't really necessarily firing or the inner Coggins of the team are not firing
Was it a case of our Teta and Pep kind of cancel each other out?
Why do you believe it was a low-quality game then?
You know because the incident, you know
The money neutrals probably would have went with City win
But there was a lot of people that regardless of whether Arsenal won or lost there was three twos and two twos
I'm pretty sure you spoke with your bredrins and stuff. Everyone expected a lot of goals, really
I definitely I share your opinion. I didn't expect to win. I didn't expect to keep a clean sheet much less at the Emirates
So why was it a low quality kind of a fair fee in that regard?
I think it was two teams as you mentioned there
They were kind of cancelling each other out because they were like two
You know, those scenes or those films or those blue pads, you see two lions
They're kind of like looking at each other and just walking the circle around each other
Just eyeing each other up like I'm not going to pounce but I'm on this thing if you want to pounce
Oh for waiting for the first move
Yeah, and nothing ends up happening
But both lines are on job
I think it was a little bit like that
I don't think for either team it would have been terminal or defeat
I think it would have been worse for us had we lost than it was for them
But I just think it was a game, it was tense because it was a match where I think Arsenal
From Arsenal's perspective, I think they half knew
We're not going to get a better chance of beating City
They've got their two best players out
I would say the two best midfielders in the league
Yeah, yeah, arguably I don't think anyone would disagree with you
Forget their team, the league
So we're at home
They're not fully in their groove
We're not going to get a better chance
Because the chance of us going to the Etihad and winning are pretty slim
So we're going to win this title, we've got to beat them here
We've got to at least beat them at home
So I think that kind of transpired into a nervousness and a tentativeness
That saw us not play our fluid best
We're not playing our fluid best anyway, but that for me is intentional
That for me, and I'll get to that in a second, I think that's intentional
I think from the City perspective, A, they were missing key players
B, their form isn't amazing
Their form is good, but they're not in their groove either
And I thought, and I think this was kind of played out in the last 10 minutes
Just before we scored
I think that they would have, even before the game, taken a point
And that sounds very un-pep-like
And people would say, no, Pep always plays for a win
Maybe he does
It's a marathon, isn't it?
It is, and I think they probably thought
We're not playing particularly well at the moment
We're away at Arsenal, probably our biggest challengers
It's early in the season
Just get a point
Just get out there a point
We'll beat them at Argaff in February, March, whatever
When we're really in the groove, we'll handle business then
But for now, we'll take a point
We haven't got our best of our first 11
We'll take a point
And I think that contributed to how they played
Which contributed to, I think, why the game was a little bit stodgy
And a little bit of a, you know, poor spectacle
What do you make of Mikel Arteta?
Because obviously, you know, I describe his line-up and his subs
More so his line-up as high-risk, high-reward
Now, obviously, his hands were kind of tied
In that there was injuries and things
But many people would have seen Jorginho
Definitely after the Spurs game and thought, what's going on there?
You've got Partey on the bench
But I think personally, Arteta got everything right
From his subs to the free subs
That obviously made the difference, including Martinelli
So for Jorginho's start
What did you make of that, really?
Because the line-up has to have shocked you in Port Royal to a degree
It didn't, you know, it didn't delude it
It didn't surprise me
One, because like you said, what more could he have done?
Partey didn't have 90 minutes in his legs
So he couldn't have started, nor could Martinelli
Them guys were fit enough to play
But were they fit enough to start?
So for me, even if you disagree with your selection
My question to you then would be, well, what could he have done?
His hands were tied, yeah
60% Partey at the start
Do you want to put in a 60% Partey against City?
I don't know if you want to do that
He's going to end up having to come off
Exactly, and then maybe exacerbate the injury even more
That he's out for a month
So I think the line-up, I wasn't surprised by the line-up
I thought that Jorginho's selection was really smart
And I was calling for Jorginho to start against
He was on last league game, Bournemouth
And people were saying, you mentioned the mistake against Spurs
That can happen, it was his mistake, it was his error
But the mere fact that he's an experienced season player
Was the reason why I was comfortable with him coming back in
And as it turned out, he played very well
I'm a big fan of Jorginho, I think he's got flaws
But I think in the right system, with the right tactics
Jorginho is a phenomenal player
I think if you expose him, if you don't put legs around him
And if you ask him to play in particular games
You're going to look bad
And I don't advocate him playing in certain games
But I think the Arsenal fan base don't support him as much as they should
Because A, he's ex-Chelsea
B, he's not flashy, there's no step-overs
Or there's no top bins, or there's no nutmegs
He's not one of the best centre-mids in the world, arguably
That we'd love to have in our midfield
Yeah, and he's just not flashy
But what he is, he's intelligent
And what he is, he's experienced
Yeah, and I think that gets underrated by, I think, fans in general
But Arsenal fans
Will he concede a few goals because of how he plays?
Yes, he will
But I think overall, the net positive for having him in your team
In certain games, as we saw on Sunday
Is that in a big game, he's been there and done it
He knows what he's doing
The Tottenham error for me did make me think
Oh, don't put him in again
It was an error
If he was a youngster and made that error
I might have some more reservations
Because a youngster wouldn't know how to bounce back from that
And deal with that
But he's not a youngster, he's been there and done it
Yeah, to go into your question about Arteta
I think he got everything bang on, as you said
I think it was a masterclass, let me tell you why
I think, and I was saying on the Forever Arsenal podcast
Through the Boys, leading into it
They were all crying, and I'm sure you were too, Deluded
They were all crying about Saka
Oh, what was he thinking?
I mean, I wouldn't say I was crying
But it definitely was a bitter pill to swallow
But I'm of the belief of, regardless of players
Just get on with it with injuries
It happens to everyone
We just have to get on with this
It is what it is
This is what I was saying
And I was OK with him playing against Lons
Because unless it comes out factually that he was injured
Before that match
Play your best team
This idea that we can go to Lons
And just play our B team and get a three points away
It's disrespectful
We're talking about some big European giants out there
And it's the Champions League
We've been at the party, Deluded, for six years
Who do we think we are?
We can just rock up to Lons
I agree
With our GBGP team
And walk a three point
No, you play your best team
And worry about City on the weekend
That was my mentality
So I was comfortable with Saka playing in that game
It backfired
I'm OK with that
That can happen
But my point was, as you just said
I don't care about Saka
I don't care about Saliba
I don't care about Jesus
My interest going into the Man City game was Michel Arteta
Your record against Pep Guardiola is embarrassing
Do something different
That's the gamble I'm looking towards
Do something different
And he did
What he did was
As we said earlier on
He didn't make it a football match
He recognised that
If I go toe-to-toe with this team
Even without De Bruyne and Rodri
I'm going to lose
It's going to be peak, yeah
It's going to happen
We're going to lose
And we're going to potentially be out of the title race
Before we even start
So he did something different
He realised that
Boy, in terms of a metaphorical speech to the fan base
Today it might not be exciting
You might have to just hold this one today
It might be a boring one
But stick with me
If my team work hard
And we're structured properly
We can get something from this match
And he did
And I think the goal that we scored
Is down to coaching as well
That's not a fluke
It's not a fluke to all four players
You look at what Tom Iasi was doing there as well
100%
Right
The height and the physical and aerial presence
That was planned
So for me
Arteta gets a lot of criticism
A lot of people call me a nutter to fanboy
I'm not
You're not alone
I get the same stuff you get me
Yeah
When he
Sorry, I can't swear
When he messes up on
When he messes up the looted
I'll call him out
He's not my brethren
I'll happily call him out
I don't know the guy
And this is what people don't understand
Like there's no shame in supporting the manager
But not just supporting everything
You know, again
I have a lot of time for Arteta
I think the man's the man
I think he's got a lot of faults
I think he
I think the faults are massively outweighed by the positives
And when he gets tactical things wrong
I'm one of the first to ask questions
But it's high risk, high reward
I'm sure Pep Guardiola's got many things wrong
You know, I agree with your point with Jorginho
I think there's certain games like the City game
Where it's more of a tactical battle off the ball
And it's a quote-unquote football game
You can get away with that
Against first, he shouldn't have come on
There's just too much areas to defend
And too much open pitches
So I share your opinion on Arteta, man
And your point about Jorginho is true as well
But one thing I've noticed is
I'm not sure
Unless it's for the last five minutes
I don't know if you could bring Jorginho on as a sub
I think because he lacks athleticism
And he lacks legs
He has to start games to be in the rhythm of the match
He's got to get into it, yeah
Yeah, I think if you throw him on
As we did against Spurs
Where the energy is already high
And people are kind of up to speed
You're throwing, you know
You're throwing a guy that's not got legs
In with guys that, A, have legs
And look at that midfield
It was...
It was Sumar, Maddison and someone else, still
It was Sumar
I remember the last one
Yeah, yeah
The man had got legs
And then the fullback's inverting and whatnot
Exactly
And they've got 45 minutes under their belt already
So I think unless you're bringing him on for the last five
Maybe ten minutes
I'm not so sure Jorginho works as a sub
Because I just don't think
Unless you've got the ball
And in the Spurs game
That was a back and forth game
Yeah, it was like a tennis match
He's not about that life
He really isn't
He's not
So I think Arteta's tactics on this game
Were perfect
And people will say, oh yeah
But they didn't have their best team
That's not our problem
That's their business
So he didn't play as good as he had last year
He was injured
We didn't have our best team then
That happens
And even on the game
On the Sunday itself
No sack up
No margin only for half the game
Part A, not till later on
So it's not like we were in there with our full eleven
You could argue Timba might have started that game
Had the injury, many wins, the goal never happened
And they're a better team than us
And you could argue
We're more likely to feel the effects
Of not having key players than them
As I said earlier
I don't really care about injuries
Because everybody gets it
I think with City's injuries
It shows that while they're near enough invincible
Injuries can affect everyone
But fundamentally you have to get on with it, man
You mentioned something kind of earlier
I want to go back to it
Like how pivotal do you think this three points
Is in the title race?
Not very pivotal
I think what was more important
Than the three points diluted
Was the psychological belief
That I think it will give the team
I think getting the monkey off their back
That we can beat City in a meaningful game
I think will be more valuable than the three points
And I also think the damage it might do to City
And look, I could be wrong here
I think it might make other teams look at City
And think, okay, we can try a thing here
We can do something
I might come back on your podcast
In two, three months' time diluted
And City have now got an eight-point gap
And man, they've got to work on it
Yeah, we're talking about something completely different
They've done one of their mad runs
And I could be monkeyed off here
Because before, I've said this before
And they've monkeyed me off before
But I think the psychological impact
That it should give the team
Is more valuable than three points
Because at the end of the day, I think we're still
Only two, three points, four points ahead of them
Yeah, there's nothing to scream and shout about really
There's nothing separating everybody really
Especially in October
We lose to Chelsea diluted
And they win their next game
It's back to a point, do you know what I mean?
So the points aren't significant for me in that sense
I think it's the fact that we know now
That we can beat Manchester City
I'm a big believer in, you can't really be champions
Until you beat the champions
I think only three times in the Premier League era
Has a Premier League team, has a team won the Premier League
Without beating the team in second
Or the previous year's winners
So it just says that if you want to be the best
You've got to beat the best
And I think now we know we can do that
I think that psychological lifting of
Come on boys, you can do it
And without your best player
That should really spur the team on
Now, for me, my kind of mindset the next day was
You started off this pod by saying
You're still riding the wave of that win
The next day I was over it
I was over it and I shouldn't be
Because the fans should be able to
And that's how I want the players to be, what you're saying
This is what I'm saying
So for the players now, it should be
Celebrate that night, next focus goes to
I know we've got an industrial break now, Chelsea
Because if you lose to Chelsea
The win against City almost doesn't mean anything anymore
It's that one step forward, two steps back
So we haven't actually moved, really
And also, as you'll know, Deluded
You don't really win titles by beating the other big teams
You win titles by beating everybody else
You win titles by beating the little teams
Let's start with Chelsea
Let's start with the little team, Chelsea
I like this game
How about we start there, do you know what I mean?
So, and Chelsea are kind of coming into a bit of form now
So that's not going to be an easy game
Our record against them is good
But let's not get complacent
Move up in the City game
But use that belief to know that
What if we can beat City?
We can beat you
Simple as that
And for me, it's a thing where I agree with you
I think you've got to be looking to take, in an ideal world
Anything from three to six points off title rivals
And I have liked, in general, the fact that
We haven't been perfect in any of the three games
We've played against the top six
But we've either, what?
We've beat Man United, beat City, drew with Spurs
We shot ourselves in the foot
But we've lived to fight another day
You've got two options
You either beat City twice or take three to six points
Or you'd be perfect for 36 games
Other than the two you play against them
As you know, it's impossible
I don't think that will happen
So I agree with you in that it's a psychological battle
What did you make of Saliba and Gabriel?
Because I don't feel Gabriel is, you know
Outrageous Saliba, rightly so
But I think Gabriel doesn't get his credit
But it is lovely to see Saliba bully Haaland really and truly
Well, the man down the street is saying that
The real man of the match on Sunday was Gabriel
I know that Rice and Saliba got all the applauders
And rightfully so
They were phenomenal in that game
But boy, the real football purist
The people that really know ball are saying
Gabriel was slightly the best player on the pitch, you know
He doesn't get his flowers
Enough, man
He doesn't
And I'll be honest, again
I was saying in podcasts I was doing pre-season
I would actually drop Gabriel from the back four
And my back four would have been Timba, Saliba, White
Um, who did I have right back?
Tomiyasu?
Yeah, I think it was Tomiyasu
That would have been my back four for the start of the season
Now, Gabriel had a good year last year
A very good season last year
And I'm not necessarily anti-Gabriel
I think he's a good centre-back
But there were just things in his game that I just thought
If we're looking at the fine margins to win a title
I think I just couldn't see him being a Premier League winning starting...
He just has an error in him
And not even that
Because when people say, oh, he's got an error in him
Maldini had an error in him
Every defender's got an error in him
Do you know what I mean?
Man or human?
Yes, I find it weird when people say he's got an error in him
Everyone's got an error in them
The issue is, do you have two big errors in you a season?
Or do you have six?
That's the difference
Yeah, yeah, that's the massive difference
So for me, the fact that he's got an error in him
Wasn't the reason why I was coming for him
It was more, I think you're a good enough starting centre-back
To get a team top four
I'm just not sure if you're good enough to get a team to win the title
Now, is Matip good enough to win a title?
Well, he won one
So is Matip significantly better than Gabriel?
Eh, he can debate either way
So as long as you've got one bad boy centre-back
Which I think we do in Saliba
The other one doesn't have to be as good
Just needs to be able to complement him
And that's where I think he does really, really well
I think Gabriel has definitely this year been better
And I find it ironic that I was calling for Gabriel
To be dropped at the start of the season
And then what, the first few games of the season
Yeah, he had to hold bench
Yeah, I was saying it as this thing of
This is what I would do
I didn't think Arsenal would actually do it
Do you know what I mean?
And I think there's some tactical reasons why there's that
I think because Timbo's injured
I think he wants to get
He wants to kind of have a different back four sort of thing
So I think Gabriel is a very good centre-back
And I think he's starting to get the flowers that he needs now
But I need him now to be a defender that
Over the course of the season
I can count his errors
Yeah, serious reliability, yeah
Do you know what I mean?
If I can count your errors on one hand
A couple of games where you were like
Then I'm cool with that
If he starts getting to the point where
I can't even remember how many errors you've made
Because you've made that many
Then it's a problem
I'm in trouble
You're in trouble, man
And I think that the complementing of the two is really important
Saliba is, they call him the Rolls Royce
He's the classy one
He's the one that
He's running really fast
But doesn't look like it
He kind of glides
He's very gracious with it, yeah
He just glides, do you know what I mean?
And I think Harlan experienced the fact that
Look, I'm not really here to fight you
But if you want to fight
I'm down
And that's what I like
The little nudges and all them dark arts in defence
That needs to be done
I'm a good kid
Who's that rapper that said
You're a good kid
Stop pretending like you're a
Stormzy
Stop pretending like you're a good kid
Stop pretending like you're a bad boy
It's like Saliba saying to Harlan
I'm a good guy
Like we can be cool
But don't push me
But don't push me, Bertrand
I hope you really know who you're frightening, man
Right
Let's not do that
Do you know what I mean?
And when he tested him
I didn't want to do it
But I had to put you on your backside
Yeah
I didn't like that about him
Whereas Gabrielle is the opposite
He's just on smoke
He's just always on smoke
He's just crazy
And that can be detrimental sometimes
Because sometimes
You don't need to always be on smoke
Sometimes just do the stuff
Just calm down, yeah
Just relax, bro
You don't need to kick a man
In the back of his neck
Just intercept the ball, bro
Do it
Do you know what I mean?
It's alright
I heard the comparison
Which I feel was apt
Saliba's the Rolls-Royce
Gabrielle's the Range Rover
Yeah
And that for me was like
Yeah
I kind of see that
Yeah
And I think what's important
I think people underestimate this
What's in front
So Rice is now in front
That triangle
That's right
Is really, really
Oh, man
That is a threesome
We've had defence before
We've had good defenders
But if they're not protected
And they're constantly being exposed
And hit at
It's only a matter of time
Before they let goals in
So I don't think we should
We should take Rice out of that
That kind of combination as well
So, look
I thought they were all brilliant
On Sunday
And that is the area of the pitch
Where I think you have to be
Really good
To beat Manchester City
Because that's where they
That's where they play their game
They're intricate playing
And the irony is
Deluded that
People were talking about
Rodri missing the game
And he was obviously
Going to be a big miss
I think De Bruyne
Was the bigger miss
Yeah
Haaland would have loved
To have had De Bruyne
Someone that could make
Things happen like that
What they were lacking was
Exactly
What they were lacking was
Someone that could
Just had a little bit of guile
And even though the game
Wasn't great
Someone that could
Just get the ball
And thread
Thread
They had no one
That could thread
Yeah
So I think in a weird way
We only scored one goal
We didn't pepper them
So did they really miss
That defensive shield
Not really
What they did miss
Was someone that could
Get on the ball
And do something mad
And really ask questions
About defence
Yeah
I mean
I think that triangle
Was brilliant
I mean
I'm going to ask you
A question now
Go on
Declan Rice
Because
When I talk about
Declan Rice
In the highest terms
Gassing
Burp
I think he started
His Arsenal career
Brilliantly well
Really well
I thought he was
Arguably the man
That matched him
On Sunday
Like I say
Some are saying
Saliba
Some are saying
Gabriel
Court
He's underrated
Now I'm saying
Look
Nah
I'm saying look
I'm not
I'm prepared to wait
And be patient
And even believe
That that ceiling
For him on the ball
Is there to be
To be better
But stop telling me
On the ball
He's brilliant
Because at the moment
I'm not seeing anything
On the ball
That makes me think
You're a ball
Playing midfielder
Now
I want to be clear
As well
When people
When I talk about
When people talk about
He's good on the ball
Anyone can do that
I've seen Gabriel
You're in England
International
You should be doing that
I like it from him
But you should be doing that
I think he's a pro
I think bursting
In the middle of the ball
30-40 yards
Is not a skill
That's something
That most players can do
What I'm talking about
In terms of on the ball
Abilities are
When the ball's at your feet
Can you spot a pass
When the ball's at your feet
Can you manipulate the ball
That's what I think
You can learn from Jorginho
Someone he said he looks at
That is what I'm talking about
When I talk about
On the ball
Technical abilities
I mean that
I don't mean
Can you drive
Through the middle
Most players
Can get on the ball
And drive through the middle
That's not
That's not difficult to do
So I was really interested
To hear if you
Which I think you do
Agree with me that
All the good things
He's doing right now
I love
But all the things
That I said
He was good at
At West Ham
What I was told was
From the Arsenal fan base
And the West Ham fan base was
Oh on the ball
On the ball
Like he's
I'm like okay
Alright
And so far
I'm not seeing
On the ball
Now like I said
I'm not wowed
On the ball
By Declan Radcliffe
By any imagination
And I'm not even criticising
Neither are you
No same
I'm not saying that
He can't get that
In his game
I'm just saying
Let's not pretend
Like it's there now
Because it's not
Exactly
That's why I said
Next year I think
We'll see that kind of stuff
If I'm honest with you
There you go
And my last question
For you as well
No
Neither do I
But I have to ask
Manifold is world class
Fing around
I mean world class
Is objective right
So I'm not going to argue
With someone who says
He's world class
But for me
My bar is high
You're talking about
World class
Nah
That's a serious bracket
It is man
I think
And I think
World class is not also
This is what people forget
And why I disagree with
A lot of people
Who say he is
World class isn't just about
Your technical capabilities
That's a big part of it
Leadership
All the other stuff
It's that as well
But you know what it is as well
It's time
It's been two years
How can you give a man
World class
After two seasons
Now if in those two seasons
We did two trebles
Then he's contributed
To a madness
Where okay
You're operating
At a high level
Is this first year
In the Champions League
Oh sorry
Did he play
Champions League football
For Marseille
I don't think he did
For Marseille
I think he played
In Europe for Marseille
Like Europa or something
So
In fact tell it like
He might have actually
Played Champions League
Football for them you know
I just have a funny feeling
He did
Anyways he played in Europe
If he has
Yeah if he has
I'll take that back
But world class for me
Is also about
It's about a pedigree
Of time
It's about
Looking back over
Four or five years
It's a catalogue
Of body of work essentially
It is man
It has to be deluded
You can't just say
A man's had a great
Six months
He's in Premier League
Team of the Year
And he's world class
No
World class
Man is chatting about
Saka's world class
Saka's not world class
For me
Not yet
I think he will be
Right trajectory
I think he will be
But right now
You can't just say
For two and a half years
He's world class
Saka's putting up
30 goals a season
And that's a bad year
For him
Yeah man is saying
He's bottled it
I don't want to praise
That guy who went
To Bayern Munich
But him the same
These guys are putting
Up numbers
And competing
At the top level
I know we love
Our boys
But let's just relax
They're putting in
Very good performances
But there's no trophies
To show for it
At the moment
And there's no time
That's gone by
How can you call a man
World class
After two seasons
They've got the ability
That makes me think
They will be
And for me
A factor in calling
Someone world class
Is can you do things
That others can't do
Cool
Do I think Saliba
Can do things
That other centre backs
Can't do
Yeah I do
I do
But I also need to
Team tested
At the highest level
Over a period
Not just one good run
In the Champions League
As well
I need to see
Consistently
Telling myself
You know what
A man's been doing this
For a high level now
For three, four, five years
So no
For me he's not world class
But that doesn't mean
I don't think he's
Highly talented
Or can't be world class
But at the moment
You've got to work
A bit more than that
To kind of get
World class from me
It's a weird one for me
In that I do think
He's one of the best
Centre halves
In the world
I think it's similar
To Saka
But when I look at world class
I mean we'll be here all day
Listening to prime centre backs
Do I think right now
If them lot were still
Playing in their prime
He can match up to them
Of course not
I think he's on the right road
I think he's following
The right Sat Nav
I think he's doing
The right things
When you listen to
Actually how Saliba speaks
I guarantee without knowing him
If you speak to him himself
He won't tell you
He's world class
I don't really like
To use the international scene
As a somewhat yardstick
Because it can be
A bit political
But he's not
You know
How we really call
I'm keen to see him
Kind of excel
Away from Gabriel
Because when he does
Make appearances
For France
You can see him
Kind of getting flat footed
I think he can learn
A tiny bit off the ball
I actually think Saliba
For the colossal defender
Physically he is
Can improve in terms
Of his heading
But I think they're
On the right path
Similar to Saka
They're doing the right thing
They're consistent
They're making the difference
They've signed new deals
So we're laughing
So I'm with you
I think we've just
Got to let the man
Show and prove
And there'll be a day
Where I always describe it
Sooner rather than later
If Arsenal keep going
To where they want to
We're going to be
He's going to be
One of the first fingers
That fingers are pointed at
Really and truly
When things are going
Kind of left
Similar to Liverpool
With Van Dijk
Van Dijk might have
A faultless game
For club and country
He's the first person
He's not a leader
He's not this
He's not that
But I think Saliba
And I actually believe Gabriel
I think Saliba's ceiling
Is higher
But I think Gabriel's
Potential is really underestimated
I think they're
In the right scenario
It's just a case of
As you said
We've got to let the man
Show and prove
And there'll be a day
When I always describe it
Sooner rather than later
If Arsenal keep going
To where they want to
We're going to be
One of the first fingers
That fingers are pointed at
Really and truly
Because you look at our team
If anybody was world class
They arguably wouldn't be
At Arsenal
We're trying to build
A world class 11
And that goes for the
Manager and the team
So it's an interesting one
I know I said last question
But last last question
If I let you get out of it
What's your feelings
In relation to the
Chelsea game then?
A week or so
Before we
Or two weeks
Ooh
Can I have it
As Darby Man said
He could be on the bench
If we don't have Darby
I think that
This break has come
At a good time
Because I think Saliba
Pulled out of the France squad
So he'll have
10 days off now
Psaka pulled out
Of the England squad
He'll have 10 days off now
I think Martinelli
Yeah you're right
I was just about to say
I think Martinelli
Lost out as well
And Trossard
So he'll have 10 days off
And Trossard
So if you can get
Two of those four
At least
Fit to start
Against Chelsea
You're in a good position
It's at their gap
Isn't it
It's at the bridge
Yeah yeah
It's down for a bridge
On the 21st of October
5.30 or something
Our record
Is actually quite good
There in recent years
But again
Well it was
Exactly
But let's not
Rely on that
Like records there
To be broken
And Chelsea
Are coming into
A bit of form
I think
The importance of this game
And really kind of
Start flexing our muscles
I don't look at the table
I look at the table
On three parts of the season
10 games
Christmas
March
Exactly
Those are the three times
Of the season
10 games
Is enough games now
To be able to
Look at
Okay
Who's bedded in
Who's not
What are we playing this year
What's our formation
What's our structure
You know
Who's surprised me
And should be starting
And who's let me down
10 games
Is a good enough time
To settle
Right
Christmas is halfway
Through the season now
Okay
Are we in this race
Are we looking like
We're not serious
And then March is like
Right
That's when you decide
These title contenders
Yeah
It's like who's serious now
The business end of the season
10 games to go
Who's on this team
Who's really
Really looking
Across the line
So
We're not at 10 games yet
I think for me
It's about
Being in the pack
I said at the start
Of the season
If
Everyone was talking
About Arsenal
For me deluded
The challenge
At the start of the season
If I was Arteta
This is what I'd be saying
To myself
And maybe the team
Give me 85 points
That's what you need
To be looking at
Maybe even that
If you want to talk
About a title
Yeah
The thing is
I'm saying
Just get me 85
And then we can go
From there
Because 85 means
That you're at least
In the race
85 means
You've taken it
To at least
The last 5 games
Of the season
But if you can't put up
85 points
You're not in the race
Let's at least
Be in the race
Come the end of April
So that's early May
So for me
The Chelsea game
Is important as far as
I want to start a run
But it's not
Terminal
If we lose
I think what we can do
Is put them back
In their box
We can put them
Back in their box
Because they've had
2 or 3 games
And they're looking
Like okay
They've been starving
For 3 points
Now they're excited again
Right
Let's just put them
Just relax guys
Top 10 maybe even
You know
There you go
Just get in the top
Half of the table first
And then we can
Just relax
Don't give them
Any impetus
To think they can
Really join this
Big boy race
So I think
That kind of
Has to be the mentality
Whether we win it or not
Actually it's hard
To kind of say that
Based on I don't know
Who's going to start
And who's fit
We'll be the favourites
Even though we're away
We will be the favourites
And I think now
It's about flexing
Our muscles
Do you know what I mean
We are a big team
In this team
Do you know what I mean
So we've got to go
To the bridge
The loony
And be like
You know what
We're good away
From home anyway
So we've just got to
Keep that away run going
Be defensively secure
And we've got
Guys up front
That we know
Can do a job
There's a question
Finally around
The January window
Whether we need to
Bring in a striker or not
Or do we just wait
Until summer
And go big
I'm not sure
We can discuss that
Maybe after Christmas
I think for now
It's just about
Asserting ourselves
As one of the front runners
And I think if we can
Get a win at Chelsea
That would be
Quite a difficult start
You know
To have Chelsea
City and United
In your first ten games
Of the season
With all the injuries
And all the other stuff
Three of them are at home
Granted
But that's four
Of the big six
Yeah
Only Liverpool
We haven't played
Of the big six
So far this season
That's not an easy start
To the season
So
But you know
I think
We can
