Welcome to Rancho Oco Hi I'm Alexis, I'm 41 years old and I'm Hani I'm 37.
We acquired the property sometime in October 2020. We saw it on a post so we went to it right then and there.
Although it was still growing, we couldn't see how big it was. We downed it then we made a full payment in January 2021.
The first thing we did was to make a well to store water. Then we started construction in February 2021.
We finished the house in the first week of May 2021. It was fully furnished including the mini pool in September.
I think my first inspiration is my childhood memories. Back then, in our house in the province, my grandfather made a well for us.
We spent most of our time there. We just played and our family bonding was there.
Although we had a concrete house, I remembered that we had a well.
So why not, I'll do that now since I have kids now.
And for our kids to experience living in the province and in my house.
At first, we were really new to the place. We wake up early around 4.30 to 5.30 because there are a lot of alarm clocks.
There are a lot of cows grazing, birds chirping, and chickens crowing.
We take advantage of that because when we wake up in the morning, we can already see the sunrise.
After the sunrise, we'll go gardening. That was our first experience here in our place.
This is our dining room.
This is where we eat, hang out, and get some fresh air.
This is our kitchen.
This is where we cook.
This is our mini pool for the kids.
If they want to swim with a mountain view, stargazing while swimming, this is where they go.
Most of the time, they just enjoy swimming here.
For me, the unique feature of this house is the bathroom.
Because this is the modern touch of this house.
This is my favorite spot.
This is my me time.
I'm just in the bathtub and there are a lot of plants.
You can stargaze here.
It's very relaxing.
That's the part of this house.
Another unique feature of this house is the mini pool in front.
We made this for our kids because they love swimming.
Even if you're inside the house, you can still see them swimming.
So, you're very secure that nothing will happen to our kids.
My favorite spot on the farm is this recreational activity area in front.
You can do a lot of things here.
Our favorite activity is bonfire.
It's like you're having fun bonfiring at night.
This is our room.
It's queen size.
If you lie down here, you can see the view outside.
The sunrise.
Everything.
You'll feel relaxed while you're sleeping.
Most of the materials that we use is mahogany.
It's customized to our local tistizas.
This is from sahig to dingding.
It's a bit pricey, but it's worth it in the long run.
We really splurged on the mahogany.
It's a labor of love because we sanded the floor,
and we also varnished their dingdings.
Maybe it's not obvious that they're just amateurs.
We did DIY.
We love DIY.
This is our second room.
This is our loft type room.
We're used to going upstairs.
But this is sturdy.
You won't fall down.
We don't have a professional head.
We didn't hire an architect for the plan and the costing.
We thought we'd only reach 500.
But as the construction progresses,
we add what we want to add.
More or less, we reached 1M,
including the mini pool, water system,
and all the furnishings in the house.
In terms of design,
my idea here is the traditional house cube.
We incorporated modern fixtures
so it's an upgraded modern house cube.
We have a double bed upstairs.
You can see the outside.
If you want to get some fresh air,
there's a balcony outside.
We're here in our balcony.
It's nice to get some fresh air.
The kids play here.
It's safe and sturdy.
Rancho Oco.
Since our surname is Oco,
we're looking for something that rhymes with Oco.
Our eldest, Kia,
repeated the name Rancho Oco.
So there.
Our property's name is Rancho Oco.
It has a sense of ownership.
Yes.
In terms of the cubo area,
it's more or less 5.5m by 6m,
including the deck and the dining area.
In terms of the lot area,
initially, it was 1,000 square meters.
Then we acquired the second property
so it became 2,000 square meters.
When we decided to rent an airbnb,
since our friends are asking
if they can see the cubo house,
if we can visit it,
and others are offering to rent it,
we also wanted to share our experience
living in our cubo house.
So we decided to lease our property in an airbnb.
One more thing,
it's an additional income for us.
We also built another cubo house
for our personal use.
Just in case there are guests.
At least they have privacy.
So we have our own villa.
The advice we can give is
to think wisely.
It doesn't mean that
if we see someone moving out to Manila,
living in the province,
and building there,
we'll be impulsive.
Maybe we have to be prepared
emotionally, financially,
and we have to know where to jump.
And we have to test the water first
so we won't regret it.
So when you decide that
you're going to do it,
do it wholeheartedly.
You know, trust the process.
Because along the way,
there are doubts.
Because we're inexperienced
to build from scratch.
So we have doubts along the way.
Good thing, with the support of my husband,
he can reassure me
that what we're doing is okay.
So let's continue.
If you want something,
you have to work on it
so that you will achieve it.
Teamwork between the two of us
led to this wonderful result.
