University of Coimbra - UNESCO World Heritage Site

A tour of the UNESCO World Heritage site University of Coimbra in central Portugal. Founded as an academy in the 13th century, over 700 years the university has developed into one of Portugal's most famous and important institutions of learning. Some of the highlights here include the Royal Palace of Alcáçova, the Cathedral of Santa Cruz, the incredible baroque Joanine Library, the Botanical Garden and University Press, along with the 20th century "University City" development nearby.
