That and this are all abnormal in Japan!
Good work, everyone!
I'm Yuri of Personality.
As the heat gradually softens,
and as it gets cooler,
the days when you can feel the autumn coming on your skin have increased.
In the fall of Japan, the daytime is shorter than the summer,
and the temperature difference between day and night increases.
The blue sky, the moon in the night sky, and the stars look beautiful because the air is clear.
In addition, in the fall, many types of food are in season,
such as salmon, salmon, mushrooms, chestnuts, pumpkins, and sweet potatoes.
There are so many seasonal foods that they are called the autumn of appetite,
from the fruits of the sea to the fruits of the mountains.
And speaking of the charm of autumn in Japan,
isn't it possible to see the autumn leaves?
Many people are looking forward to autumn events,
such as the Kaede Festival, Icho Festival, and Yanagi Festival,
where autumn leaves change their color.
However, we Japanese enjoy the autumn leaves every year as if it were a given,
but in fact, it is not possible to see colorful autumn leaves all over the world.
It is said that the autumn leaves are only found in a part of the northern hemisphere,
and that other than Japan, they are found in the coast of East Asia,
a part of Europe, and the eastern part of North America.
So, how do people overseas see the autumn leaves in Japan?
It seems that there are not many customs such as going out to see the autumn leaves abroad,
but do they feel beautiful when they see the autumn leaves, just like the Japanese?
This time, I would like to introduce an episode of a French man
who came to Japan to capture the autumn in his camera.
It seems that he visited Arashiyama in Kyoto, one of the three famous places in Japan,
so let's take a look at the details.
A French photographer is impressed by the scenery of autumn in Japan.
I'm Joseph, a photographer in France.
I've always been fascinated by the natural scenery since I was a kid.
When I was a kid, I used to borrow my father's camera to take pictures.
Since I started working as a photographer,
I feel that my respect for nature is getting stronger and stronger.
And what I've been interested in for many years is the nature and culture of Japan.
It is said that there are many wonderful things in Japan,
but among them, I was fascinated by the autumn of Japan.
And I really wanted to take pictures of the autumn leaves,
which are a must as a symbol of autumn in Japan, with my own sensibility.
According to the information I received in advance from a photographer friend who is familiar with Japan,
the season of autumn leaves varies depending on the region.
When I was asked which autumn leaves to take, I said,
In Kyoto, it is said that the peak season of autumn leaves is generally from mid-November to early December.
It seems that this year is expected to be a normal year,
so it is recommended to make a plan according to this time of year.
With that advice, I started preparing to go on an adventure to Japan.
As my friend said, I landed in Japan for the first time in mid-November.
I stayed there for three weeks.
Because it was my first time.
The first thing I felt about Kansai International Airport was the pleasant air.
It was sunny and the sky was blue.
This is also a feature of autumn in Japan.
In Europe at this time of year, especially in France, it is often cloudy and cold.
The day I arrived in Japan was warm and the weather was good, so I was relieved.
On the first day, I made a reservation for a hotel in downtown Osaka,
but on the way there, the scenery of the city was unique and I was fascinated.
I like the scenery of nature, but the cityscape of Osaka, which I saw for the first time, was also interesting.
I found that the streetlights were red and bright,
and if you look closely, there are still places that are green or orange, and the contrast is beautiful.
I was able to find a lot of autumn even though I was in such a city,
and my expectations for Kyoto increased more and more.
This is a side note, but the city of Osaka is lively and bright at night,
and there are many people in the city who talk to me.
Speaking of Osaka, I remembered when I went to New York in the United States.
I felt that it was similar, but what do you think?
Well, Osaka is safer, but it doesn't seem to have many thieves and scams aiming at tourists, and it's safer than Paris.
I didn't have a detailed schedule since I came to Japan, so I spent the first three days in Osaka.
I wanted to take pictures of the autumn leaves of Osaka Castle Park,
so it was very fun to find the best composition.
It's been three days since I noticed, and after that, I went to Kyoto.
At this time, I was completely taken by the scenery of autumn leaves in Japan.
There are also autumn leaves in France, but they are completely different.
Not only in France, but in Europe, there are many new leaves,
and in autumn, you can see trees colored yellow and orange.
When I go to the countryside of France, there are houses that have vines on the stone wall,
and in autumn, there are places that are red autumn leaves.
But it's not as vivid as Japan.
So even if you see a tree with a different color in autumn,
few people will think it's beautiful,
and I don't think everyone cares about the color of the leaves at all.
I wanted to know why Japanese autumn leaves are so beautiful, so I did a little research.
First of all, there are many autumn trees such as Momiji in Japan,
and there are many other types of autumn trees.
By changing the shape of the leaves of these trees to different colors and shapes,
you can enjoy the colors of red, orange, yellow, green, and a variety of autumn leaves.
It may also be related to the climate in Japan.
Autumn leaves are a phenomenon that occurs in the process of preparing to drop the leaves in order for the fall leaves to exceed the winter.
The yellow leaves have two colors, chlorophyll and carotenoid, which make the leaves green.
As the season changes from summer to autumn and the temperature drops,
the chlorophyll is first decomposed,
and the color of the carotenoid, which is slow in decomposition, becomes yellow.
On the other hand, the red leaves become autumn and the days become shorter,
forming a special cell layer called lyso between the roots of the leaves and the branches,
and the sugar made from chlorophyll does not reach the leaves and the branches.
Therefore, when you bathe in the sun, the sugar and protein in the leaves react chemically,
and a red pigment called anthocyanin is formed.
In other words, during the day, chlorophyll is actively produced by warmth and sunlight,
and at night it becomes cold and the ideal formation progresses.
Due to the large temperature difference, the amount of anthocyanin that makes the leaves red increases,
and the color becomes vivid.
I was surprised to come to Japan.
It's sunny and warm during the day, but when it gets dark and dark, it gets really cold.
But I guess this beautiful autumn climate in Japan creates this beautiful autumn.
And the autumn leaves in Kyoto were wonderful.
Kyoto has a beautiful natural environment and many historical temples and shrines.
This set is a foul play, isn't it?
There are so many fantastic scenes,
I was worried that I might be in a dream all the time.
The culture and autumn leaves harmonize beautifully and create a beautiful scenery.
Arashiyama in Kyoto is famous in Japan for having many famous autumn leaves.
I went to Togetsu-kyo, which is a symbol of Kyoto,
and there were a lot of tourists during the day.
Later, when I went to Togetsu-kyo in the early morning,
I was able to see a different scenery.
The view from Togetsu-kyo, which was dyed in the morning glow, was so mysterious and beautiful.
At the moment of sunrise, I almost cried.
Not only the beautiful rising sun,
but also the autumn leaves lit up by the morning sun created the most beautiful world I've ever seen.
When I realized it, I was cutting the shutter in a daze.
In the morning at 7.30 a.m., only the garden is open to the public,
and there are few people at this time.
I went to Tenryu-ji, which is registered as a World Heritage Site,
and the garden here is very gorgeous.
The garden, which is spread around a large pond,
is well-maintained and beautiful from corner to corner.
It seems to be one of the works carefully calculated and made.
The red colored leaves are reflected in the pond like a water mirror, and it is very impressive.
I was also blessed with the opportunity to experience Japanese tea ceremony in Kyoto.
I wore a rental kimono for the first time in my life,
and I learned how to drink tea ceremony in English.
Outside the room, there is a garden with beautiful autumn leaves,
and the owner makes matcha in the background of this scenery.
If I were to describe it in words, it would be exactly this.
Everything was a valuable experience.
I felt that my mind and body were purified.
However, it was impossible for me, who was not used to sitting for a long time, to maintain the sitting posture called Seiza.
I don't know if I'm pathetic or what,
but the owner laughed modestly and said,
I have become the easiest way to sit Seiza,
but for those who came from abroad, it's a cramped way to sit, right?
You don't have to overdo it, it's okay.
Japanese people are amazing and kind.
When drinking matcha, Japanese sweets were also prepared,
but this was also a wonderful dessert like a work of art.
It's simple, but it has a refined beauty,
and it's really delicious when combined with a slightly bitter matcha.
In Kyoto, there were many other delicious foods.
I didn't go to various restaurants because I didn't want to eat,
but there are surprisingly delicious foods sold at low prices everywhere.
Even in France, in this season, there are a lot of autumn vegetables and fruits in Marche,
but what is autumn in Japan?
Japanese convenience stores were so convenient that I often used them when buying food,
but I thought I'd like to eat something that uses seasonal ingredients.
The first thing I was worried about was chestnuts.
Even in France, chestnuts are one of the foods that are often eaten in autumn.
When I was a kid, I remembered that my grandfather sometimes made grilled chestnuts at a barbecue,
so I bought Japanese grilled chestnuts, and they were really delicious.
French grilled chestnuts are a little hard and have a bitter taste,
and I like that.
The chestnuts I ate in Japan were fluffy and flavorful,
so it was a taste that I could eat as much as I wanted.
I was also surprised by roasted sweet potatoes.
I ate it for the first time.
In France, sweet potatoes are not sold much.
Even if it was sold, it was imported and had a lot of fiber, so it wasn't that delicious.
But Japanese roasted sweet potatoes are just baked, but it's like a sweet cake.
I can't believe it.
Moreover, it has a very gentle sweetness, and when you put it in your mouth, it melts.
I was wondering what was going on with such delicious vegetables.
And when I contacted a friend who was familiar with Japan,
I asked him what other autumn foods there were,
and he said he wanted me to try it.
It's a little difficult to eat, but it's a good experience.
I was encouraged and went to a popular restaurant in Kyoto recommended by a friend.
When I asked for a grilled chestnut set meal and it was brought to me,
I couldn't help but stare at it.
It was probably a fish I had never seen before, and it was grilled with its head and tail attached.
But the moment I saw it, I thought it was absolutely delicious.
By the way, when I was wondering how to eat it,
the staff at the restaurant taught me in Japanese with gestures.
I didn't understand the words, but I could understand them somehow,
and I was happy with the kindness of the Japanese.
But chopsticks are difficult, aren't they?
And since it's grilled whole, there should be bones in it.
I wasn't sure if I could eat it well, but as I was taught,
I put a citrus called sudachi and soy sauce on it and ate it with grated daikon.
What a delicate taste it is!
The combination of the taste of saury and various other flavors is very delicious.
It's not greasy, it's a light taste, and I think it's good for the body.
I thought I knew the rules and manners of eating Japanese food,
but was I all right at this time?
As my friends said, it was difficult to eat, but this was the best saury experience.
Like this, I shoot Japanese autumn every day,
have valuable cultural experiences, and enjoy Japanese food,
and three weeks have passed in a blink of an eye.
I don't have enough time. I want to see more and more various places in Japan.
And I want to see not only autumn, but also Japanese winter, spring, and summer.
I was embarrassed, but when I came to Japan,
I learned for the first time that cherry blossoms were in bloom.
Japanese cherry blossoms and cherry blossoms are well-known in France as part of Japanese historical culture.
In Paris, there are many parks where cherry blossoms are planted,
and there are events called Hanami in Japanese,
but there are no cherry trees everywhere like in Japan.
When I was casually looking at the orange-colored trees in Kyoto Park,
I was really surprised when I found out that the tree was Somei Yoshino.
It seems that the cherry tree is a little earlier in the autumn than other cherry trees.
The cherry tree I saw had already lost a lot of leaves,
but the leaves that were in full bloom were still there.
I've never seen the beauty of Japanese cherry blossoms with my own eyes,
but when I said cherry blossoms, I only had the image of spring when the flowers bloom.
That's when I realized how beautiful autumn cherry blossoms were.
I'm sure that in a little while, all the leaves will fall and the cold winter will pass,
and wonderful flowers will bloom in spring.
When I was thinking about that, the cherry blossoms seemed to be in full bloom,
and I almost cried again.
I wonder if I cried when I came to Japan.
Anyway, I definitely want to go back to Japan again.
The autumn leaves I actually saw with my own eyes were many times more wonderful than I imagined.
It may depend on the location, but in winter you can see beautiful snowy scenery.
I'm also interested in traditional Japanese New Year.
And in spring, not only cherry blossoms, but various flowers bloom and you can enjoy colorful scenery.
I wonder how I would feel if I walked under the cherry blossoms in the spring.
I wonder if I would cry.
I'm sure it's full of beautiful green in summer.
It's also nice to go up to Natsuyama in Japan and take pictures.
Falls and valleys should be incredibly beautiful.
There are many other colorful countries, including France,
but it is rare for the scenery to change so clearly every season.
I want to come to Japan as much as possible and enjoy the charm of the Japanese season.
That's all for this episode.
Japanese autumn leaves and the taste of autumn are often talked about overseas,
and various comments from foreign people were posted in related posts,
so let me introduce some of them.
Overseas reaction
When I saw photos of Japanese autumn leaves, I thought it was absolutely CG.
But when I actually saw the autumn leaves in Japan, I was 100 times more impressed by the photos.
The beauty of autumn in Japan is extraordinary.
The beauty of autumn in Japan cannot be put into words.
It is a scenery so beautiful that my heart cannot bear it.
I miss Japan. I always keep my heart in Japan.
I used to stay in a lodging facility where I could see the autumn leaves while taking a hot spring bath,
but the scenery was special.
Japanese sweet potatoes are incredibly creamy,
and it's a perfect taste.
There are seasonal fruits in Japan, but autumn fruits are especially delicious.
I especially like pear and persimmon, which are unique to Japan.
It seems that Japanese autumn leaves, especially autumn leaves, are attracting more attention and interest from overseas than Japanese people think.
According to the data from the Japanese Government Tourism Bureau,
the number of foreign tourists in recent years is high in July, April, and October.
In addition to July, which overlaps with the vacation of Western countries, and April, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom,
October, when the autumn leaves are in full bloom, is the high season for tourism.
Summary
The vivid and fleeting autumn leaves are praised by foreigners,
and the temples and shrines that are given as the landmarks of autumn leaves are said to be in perfect harmony with buildings and autumn leaves.
Of course, the season of autumn leaves varies from region to region,
but when the temperature in the morning is about 8 degrees, the autumn leaves begin to color,
and when it drops to about 5 degrees, the autumn leaves advance rapidly.
If you haven't had a chance to see the autumn leaves so far,
why don't you carry your feet to see the beautiful scenery that can only be seen in Japan?
You may encounter a heart-pounding scene that makes you want to turn off the shutter.
How was it?
I would be happy if you could tell me your impressions in the comments.
