Welcome to the program, I am Lily.
Today's guest is the founder and CEO of Hua Yue Academy,
Ms. Su Guizhu.
Ms. Su has been teaching for more than 30 years.
She used to teach Chinese and English in Hong Kong.
Now she is in the U.S.
She established Hua Yue Academy
to promote Cantonese culture and Chinese as a whole to the world.
Welcome, Ms. Su.
Hello, Ms. Su.
Hello, Lily.
Cantonese and Chinese as a whole are being suppressed in Hong Kong.
More and more Hong Kongers are leaving Hong Kong and going overseas.
Cantonese is very important.
How do Hong Kongers preserve Cantonese culture?
In the future, you may have to go to the U.S. or overseas to learn Cantonese.
I would like to ask Ms. Su,
how did you promote Cantonese and Chinese as a whole?
How did you take the first step?
Before I left Hong Kong,
I started to teach and promote Cantonese online in Hong Kong.
When I arrived in the U.S.,
the first thing I did was to contact the Cantonese people
to set up the ICCNPO, Hua Yue Academy.
Everything went well as I had imagined.
Although there was a lot of work to be done,
and I didn't have much experience.
We didn't have the resources to hire lawyers, accountants,
or local professionals.
It was all done by ourselves.
As you can see, we are in the second year.
The second year is coming to an end.
In the past two years,
there have been a lot of online meetings, online activities,
competitions, and online education.
There has been a lot of work for everyone to see.
When we promoted Cantonese,
at first, we didn't think of having a real school.
Then, in a certain state, in a certain city,
in a certain area, there would be a school.
If you could come, you would come. If you couldn't come, you wouldn't come.
At the beginning, our goal was already global.
So, we mainly worked online.
At the beginning, the donors and supporters online,
or those who watched our lectures online,
or those who participated in our online meetings,
were all from all over the world, including African people.
They didn't speak Cantonese at first,
but they actually created a logo for our Cantonese,
and won an award.
And it became what we used at the beginning,
and still use,
a Cantonese language course.
So, I believe that as long as we are determined to promote it,
there will be no regrets.
We don't need to think that
the places in Hong Kong can't do anything now,
or that we have spread it all over the world.
So, it's very difficult.
Even if you build a school,
it's difficult to attract enough people who want to learn Cantonese to come.
In fact, the media online,
as we know today,
has a great influence and a great push.
As long as we use it well,
and we are willing to pay for it,
there's nothing we can't do.
Okay.
What difficulties did you encounter
in the process of promoting Cantonese
and maintaining the Chinese language?
Instead of thinking about the difficulties,
we should think about whether we can get some support.
Because when you think about the difficulties,
you will definitely encounter a lot of difficulties.
When you don't think about the difficulties,
you think about what positive resources,
what positive paths,
what people,
what organizations to connect with,
what work to do.
I found that from the first day,
not the first day,
but the first few months before the establishment,
I have never stopped until now.
No holidays,
no day and night.
Of course, I have enough sleep time at night.
Don't worry.
But in short,
there must be a lot of difficulties.
For example, we don't have experience,
and we don't have any organizations,
or talent groups,
or even individual talent support.
We also don't have any professional accountants,
lawyers to help us.
Although I have been working hard to search,
it has been difficult to find
American local lawyers, accountants,
professionals to help us in the past two years.
Or when we want to set up an organization here,
or when this organization is in progress,
there are some documents,
some legal matters to deal with.
What should we do?
We don't know,
we have no experience at all.
This can be the biggest difficulty.
We have to make any application.
No one will help you.
You have to do it yourself.
You have to do your own research.
And the worst thing is that
we don't understand what he is saying in English.
We don't understand what he wants you to do.
Sometimes we can't even find the form.
Are we qualified to do this?
There are a lot of things that you can see with your own eyes.
You have to look at it one by one,
study it one by one,
and do it with courage.
After studying it,
if you think it is feasible,
then do it.
After doing it,
if he wants to fine us,
what should we do?
Then we will deal with it at that time.
Recently, there was a time
when he came to the office and said
he wanted to fine us thousands of dollars.
I called him right away
and asked him to deal with it.
In the end, there was no need to pay.
It was risky.
When I received the form,
I was really scared to death.
Ms. Su, can your camera be a little quieter?
Because we have to adjust the light and the background.
For example, if I sit over there…
No, zoom in.
Yes, how?
Yes, yes, yes.
Is that okay?
Sorry.
Because the place is tight.
Yes, yes.
Can you zoom in a little closer to me?
Because I sit over there, right?
Yes, yes.
Is that okay?
Yes, yes.
Sorry, sorry.
Yes, that's right.
There are a lot of unnecessary things behind.
Okay, thank you.
Yes, continue.
You continue.
Did I answer your question just now?
Yes, just now.
Is it okay?
Yes, it's okay.
I answered your question.
Can I ask you about the name ICAC?
Yes.
For ICAC, if you want to add the NPO,
I just typed the name in,
I didn't add the NPO.
Because ICAC, as you all know,
there are other organizations called ICAC.
We don't want to be misunderstood,
but we specifically use the ICAC name.
But we added the NPO at the end,
which really shows that we are a non-profit organization.
Do you want to write your name on it?
How do I write it?
My personal name?
Yes.
My personal name.
You introduced me as a soloist,
so it should be okay.
Yes, because a lot of teaching materials
have already seen me,
heard my name,
so it shouldn't be necessary.
I am representing the ICAC NPO.
Okay.
Okay, let's continue.
Okay.
Okay, I will fix this position.
Yes, you fix this position,
and don't move from this position.
Okay, okay, okay.
Okay.
Yes, that's right.
If you promote political Chinese,
because it is under pressure in Hong Kong now,
are you worried about being suppressed?
Just like the question just now,
the attitude is very important.
If you are afraid, then don't do it, right?
If you are afraid, then don't do it.
