Franz Liszt composed Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C-sharp minor, S. 244/2, in 1847, during his time in Hungary. It is one of his most famous and frequently performed works.

"Here (in the Hungarian Rhapsody), the reminiscence of his youth is already subordinated to the desire to give a true image of the folk life of his homeland. Liszt's "Mazeppa" is internally related to this work, although it is based on a completely different intellectual impulse. What is similar in both is the wild, unrestrained urge of the chasing horses, which, of course, in Mazeppa are interrupted by sounds of pain, but in Hungaria roar along in singing joie de vivre."
