#Japan #iPhone #iPhone15
Here are my 5 reasons against the purchase of an iPhone 15 Pro.
Yo guys, Senpai in Japan. Welcome to a new video.
Yes guys, if you clicked on this video here, then you have certainly already seen some videos on the subject of the iPhone 15.
And especially the Pro models really have a lot of new things to offer.
Titanium frame, action button, finally USB-C, camera improvement and then with the iPhone 15 Pro Max also the 5x zoom etc.
Do I want it? Of course!
But that's actually the same game every year. Wanting it is not the problem, but the question is of course, does it make sense?
The first reason for me personally against the purchase of an iPhone 15 or 15 Pro is the expensive price.
Yes, I know, surprise, iPhones are expensive, who would have thought that?
But let's take a closer look at the whole thing.
In the USA, the price has remained the same compared to the previous year's model, the 14 Pro.
In euros, the price of the iPhone 15 Pro has become 100 euros cheaper compared to the 14 Pro from last year.
So where is the problem now?
And the problem is the price here in Japan in Japanese yen.
Because here in Japan, the price has become 10,000 yen more expensive compared to the previous year.
This corresponds to an increase in price of about 63 euros.
Where does that come from?
This is now due to the weak Japanese yen.
I recently made a video about this.
At the moment, on October 1, 2023, now that I'm recording this video, 1 euro corresponds to about 158 yen.
That means the yen is just not worth anything.
To be honest, the Japanese iPhone price in yen does not matter to me anyway.
Because I would never ever buy an iPhone in Japan.
The reason for this is the camera shutter sound.
You can't turn off the camera shutter on a Japanese iPhone.
Even if you put the iPhone on mute.
The thought behind it may seem noble.
You want to somehow pervert, make life difficult, somehow try to photograph under the skirt on the train, and so on.
But the problem is now from my point of view, of course.
When I upgrade an iPhone, I do it mainly to upgrade the cameras.
Because the cameras just got better.
But then I don't want to pay more than 1,000 euros for a camera upgrade.
Which is then shot through this stupid shutter sound.
That just doesn't work.
But well, if it's stupid here in Japan with the camera shutter sound,
then I could definitely buy it in Germany at some point or not.
Now I'm back in Germany from time to time.
That could work.
Then I could buy a new iPhone on the occasion.
Wouldn't that be a possibility?
Unfortunately not.
The problem is, let's take a closer look at the whole thing.
And now I'm going to assume the price of the iPhone 15 Pro with 256 GB.
Because if I were to buy one, it would probably be the iPhone 15 Pro with 256 GB.
That now costs in Germany, the current official price at Apple, 1,329 euros.
If we convert that to Japanese yen, then that corresponds to 210,000 Japanese yen.
I had already briefly displayed it on the screen.
If I were to buy it regularly here in Japan, then of course I would have the shutter sound.
But then the iPhone 15 Pro here in Japan with 256 GB would cost around 175,000 yen.
Which corresponds to 1,105 euros.
So you see, the German model, or if I were to buy it in Germany,
then it would be over 30,000 yen or over 200 euros more expensive than here in Japan.
That means, okay, Germany is a bit stupid.
But what about the US model?
I always have friends or acquaintances in my neighborhood who fly to the USA.
Or I always have friends from America who come over to Japan.
Maybe you could arrange something, right?
And also my iPhone 13 Pro, which I am currently using,
I actually bought it in the USA last year.
That's the US model.
And now the iPhone 15 Pro with 256 GB, that would cost the USA 1,099 dollars.
The problem with the US prices is of course always that they are indicated without VAT.
Then you have to calculate the VAT on it.
It is always different per state or city.
You can calculate VAT with plus or minus 10% in the USA.
We now use the so-called 10% for this example calculation.
Clap them on top.
Then we are at about 1,209 dollars for an iPhone 15 Pro in the USA with 256 GB.
That corresponds to the euro 1,142 euros.
And in Japanese yen that would be about 180,000 Japanese yen.
That means you see, the price is not even that much higher than that compared to the Japanese price.
That is the reason why I have always liked to buy an iPhone in the USA in the past, as with my 13 Pro,
when the opportunity arose.
The problem is now, but since the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro, the US models only have eSIM.
That means you can no longer insert a physical SIM card.
The things only support eSIM.
Of course, I could also somehow convert my SIM card and my contract and then switch to eSIM.
But that's kind of annoying too.
And last but not least, of course, in general, the question is how much such an upgrade would bring me at all.
As I said, I have the iPhone 13 Pro and I am very satisfied with it.
And I mean, of course, if I were to upgrade now, then there would be USB-C and the action button and camera improvements and so on.
Of course, that would be improvements in general.
But in my opinion, the difference, the leap, even compared to the 13 Pro, is not so blatant that it is worth investing so much money in it.
And especially with the iPhone or in general with smartphones, in recent times with many models,
that simply this product category is so matured and that the iPhone itself is already so matured
that there is not such a blatant upgrade every year, but there is always a slight improvement here and there.
So if you compare one year to the previous year or even to the model two years before, then the difference is,
then the differences are not quite as blatant, but these differences, these small differences,
they just add up over the years, so that if you upgrade after three or four years,
then you can clearly feel a difference.
And that's why I think an upgrade would be nice and I would actually like to do it,
but price-performance is questionable at this point.
As much as I would like to have the iPhone 15 Pro, I have therefore decided for the first time,
for the five reasons mentioned, to stay with the iPhone 13 Pro and wait until next year,
when the iPhone 16 Pro comes out and then I will probably dare the upgrade.
How do you see that? Do you get the iPhone 15 or 15 Pro or have you already done that?
And if so, did you buy it in Germany or do you get it somewhere else?
Can you find a cheaper price somewhere? Feel free to write it to me in the comments.
