How important is the technique of swimming in the preparation of amateurs?
How much time should be spent?
And when do you need to switch to functional training, not technical?
That's what we're going to talk about today.
Stay with us, we're starting.
And of course, if you want to train correctly,
swim in the right training with a certain direction,
for certain qualities that you need and certain styles,
go to our Telegram channel,
where Zhenya and I regularly post workouts three times a week,
written very competently,
designed for certain goals,
such as endurance, speed, speed endurance, strength endurance,
technique, and also for different styles.
Then you will be able not to invent yourself,
if you are too lazy to figure it out,
but just take a ready-made workout and use it in your preparation.
And the result, of course, will also be obvious,
because the workouts are made with mind,
and this is, in fact, our job.
We do this, so, of course,
we will understand this better than any of you.
We don't want to offend anyone, but it will be just right.
First, as always, we should decide on the goals,
what exactly are you swimming for.
Because if you swim just for health, it's one thing,
if you want to compete in some amateur competitions, it's another thing.
And, of course, professional sport is a completely different story.
We will compare amateurs with professional athletes,
and in this example I will explain to you
what is the difference and where it is worth paying attention to the technique,
and where you need to do physical functional training.
So, for example, athletes.
Probably you all know that athletes, of course, swim for the result.
This is the most important thing they have.
That is, it does not matter how beautiful the athlete swims,
if he shows fast seconds.
And it is also absolutely not important if he shows fast seconds
and swims incorrectly.
Time decides everything.
Amateurs have a slightly different situation.
Because there are absolutely different goals,
which you can determine for yourself.
I also recommend determining goals yourself,
and not together with the coach.
Because, by and large, if the coach is competent and a good specialist,
he does not care what exactly to do with you.
He can either put you a cool technique,
and prepare you functionally,
and do preparation in the hall, OFP, and so on.
That is, it depends on what exactly you want from him.
So come to the coach and say,
let's set goals together.
Well, probably this is possible,
if you can't decide for yourself.
But it's better to sit down and think for yourself
what you need it for.
And again, no one prevents you from changing the goal
after some time.
And, let's say, you started swimming just for health,
or just to learn how to swim,
and then prepare for something else.
Let's call it that.
So, where should we start?
This is with determining the goal.
So, we have determined the goal.
And now let's go in order.
If you decided to swim just for health,
that is, to do swimming,
to strengthen the joints,
relax the back, all these things,
raise endurance,
lose weight, and so on, and so on, and so on.
In this case, of course,
the technique will be an important indicator for you,
because if you swim incorrectly,
you will not help your health,
but only harm it.
As always, I will give the most banal examples.
This is swimming with a raised head,
which harms our spine,
overloads the neck and back.
And instead of relaxing,
getting pleasure,
you will leave the pool with a sore neck
and suffer for a long time
after training.
You can also send professional swimming technique
with putting your thumb down,
which is harmful for your shoulder joints.
And, of course, if you just want to swim
and time doesn't matter to you,
then these fractions of a second
that athletes gain
due to this investment
are absolutely uninteresting to you.
And, of course, you don't need to swim like that.
And the third banal example is
swimming with a roll without rotation.
When you don't rotate,
in addition to not getting
a large part of the power in the row,
you will also injure your shoulder joints.
Because this is a prognosis through the side,
there is immediate bending of the body,
immediate load on the joints,
and you don't need it at all.
But there is also the opposite side,
that is, we will go from extreme to extreme.
You can practice the technique forever.
It's not just that professional athletes
have been training for decades
and still swim not perfectly.
Everyone has their own features,
their own technical flaws,
and everyone knows them perfectly,
but for some reason no one is in a hurry to correct them.
And professional swimming
can be considered a standard.
In principle, any professional sport
can be considered a standard in terms of technique.
And, accordingly, why
do athletes not refine
their technique to some ideal state?
The answer is actually very simple.
They don't practice the technique all the time
just because it takes
a huge amount of time.
And even, for example,
in my example,
I swam for 17 years professionally
and, nevertheless, my technique is far from perfect.
Yes, my basic elements
are set correctly,
but there is always a reason.
And why does this happen?
Although so much time, so much effort,
two workouts a day,
five hours in the pool every day,
but the technique is not perfect.
Everything is simple,
because functional training
plays a more important role
if you already have more or less
stable main basic technical elements.
I'll tell you about them a little later.
And there is also another extreme.
When a person comes,
he is in a state of physical preparation.
That is, he swims, constantly works,
constantly swims some series,
intervals, accelerations, huge volumes,
but without paying attention to the technique.
Yes, the physical form will grow
to some certain point,
and the results will also grow.
But at one point it will all end
and you will stand still.
Then you will increase the load,
thinking that the results have risen
because I am not loading enough,
and thereby drive yourself into a pit.
The results will not only grow,
but they will also deteriorate.
And from these two extremes,
when we try to make the perfect technique
and try to improve the physical form as much as possible,
we will move on.
So, we have more or less figured out the theory.
Now let's move on to more practical advice.
What do I want to convey to you?
If you are an amateur
and came to the pool just to maintain
good physical health,
then it is enough for you to devote
so much attention to the technique
and to the basic elements
that will help you not to harm yourself
while swimming.
What do I mean by basic elements?
The first is the correct penetration,
that is, banality.
We do a good rotation,
we carry our hand.
It doesn't really matter
if you swim just for health.
It doesn't matter if it's bent or straight.
The main thing is that the joint
works at a comfortable amplitude
and you don't have any pain
and, in principle, breathing.
That is, the correct exhalation, the correct breath.
We already have a separate video on all these topics,
so I will not go into this in detail now.
And the third, of course,
is what we promote ourselves with.
These are the legs and the comb.
When you have done more or less
in general terms
work on the technique,
it actually takes not so much time.
Basic elements, even for a person
who does not know how to swim,
can be put in a couple of weeks of training
so that he swims more or less correctly
and does not harm his health.
Next, you can already switch to swimming
for your own pleasure
and for development, for example, of endurance,
if you have problems with endurance,
for weight loss, for the development of the lungs,
just swim in high spirits.
It doesn't matter anymore,
it depends on your own wishes and preferences.
The meaning of my information is that
you don't need to practice the technique for years,
try to make yourself some perfect, beautiful swimmer
if you don't have such a goal,
if you just need health.
Therefore, do not waste time
doing these
sharpening of some very small
details of the technique,
which are needed for professional athletes,
who fight for hundredths of a second.
Then it is relevant,
and in your case
it is absolutely not necessary.
If you are an amateur who is going to compete
at competitions,
no matter in the open water or in the pool,
then the task is a little more difficult for you,
but in fact it is close
to what you swim for health.
That is, you need to pay more attention
to these very basic elements,
so that you can improve your time
due to them.
That is, pay more attention to the underwater part of the fungus,
the grip, the second phase, the third phase,
devote time to sharpening
the work of the legs.
But again, it all fits
even in the half-year period of time,
at worst,
if you swim badly,
because people are all different
and at different speeds
perceive all the technical moments
and can apply them.
Further, when you put
the very basic elements
that I just talked about,
you need to switch to functional training.
That is, your results depend
on your physical training,
and not on your technique for the most part.
Because if we are talking about athletes,
again,
then everything is fine with functionality.
And the technique is sharpened to the smallest detail
precisely for these reasons,
because there is nowhere else to grow functionally.
And for amateurs,
who just come there with a belly,
ordinary men, women,
no matter what shape they are in,
in any case, most amateurs
are not in the optimal physical shape
and they have a place to strive in this regard.
Therefore, all the troubles
about the little things
for an ordinary amateur
who competes in competitions
are absolutely not relevant
because they will not give you significant changes
in the results.
And I will immediately answer the question
that it is always more difficult to retrain.
Why not immediately learn to swim super cool
and beautiful, and then improve your physical shape?
The answer is very simple,
because you do not have enough time for this.
Again, using the example of professional athletes,
on average, we train from 9
to 12 workouts per week,
of which 2-3
go to technique,
and 3-4 to functionality.
You, as an amateur,
are unlikely to train more than 3 times a week.
Of course, there are people who train 5-6,
but this is a unit.
Agree that far from everyone is able
to go to the pool every day
and devote an hour or two a day to it.
It's just not profitable,
let's call it that.
You don't have that much free time for this.
And therefore, to achieve good results,
do functional training.
After you have set the basic elements
of the technique to the proper level,
do endurance training,
muscle training in the gym,
do bodybuilding, do breathing.
There are a lot of things
that will help you
improve your results,
improve the speed of swimming,
rather than worry about the small details
of the technique.
I know that I repeat myself in this video,
but this is a very important thought
that I really want to convey.
Because a huge problem often comes to us
when it comes to technique.
A person comes and says,
I swim a kilometer in 20 minutes.
You think, well, you can roughly imagine
how he swims,
that there will be some mistakes,
something is drawn in your head.
And a person comes who swims
better than many professional athletes.
He swims just beautifully,
he has no mistakes.
You look at him and think,
what to do with you?
I have nothing to advise you on the technique,
how to build a training,
how to rest, recover, and so on.
And I have to explain every time
that you don't need it,
you don't need to know
whether it is worth
to spread your fingers a millimeter wide or not.
Because this hundredth
will not change your 20 minutes.
You will swim 19.59.99.
It is unlikely that this is the result
that you expect from the coach
when you come to training
or from the dedicated bunch of time
where you spend hundredths or at least seconds
of your time.
If you do functional training
competently, then with 19 minutes
with normal technique
an amateur can easily go to 14-13 minutes per kilometer.
Maybe even faster.
At the same time,
without changing anything in the technique.
This is the progress I think you need.
Again, here, probably, everyone decides for himself.
But I, on my part,
I see it as much better
to spend your time
on these very small details.
Let's get closer to the end of the video
and once again focus our attention
on those mistakes that can really
interfere with your swimming
and which you definitely need to eliminate.
First of all, this is breathing.
If you don't have the right breathing,
then it makes no sense to swim further.
This is the very basis with which you should start.
The second point is the work of the legs.
The next video will be just on this topic,
where I will delve into this in more detail.
But the legs should pay attention
regardless of your goals.
Whether it's just swimming for health,
swimming in a pool of short distances,
long distances,
swimming in open water, triathlon,
it does not matter.
It is always worth paying attention to the legs
simply because this is part of the swimming technique.
If you do not learn to work with your feet,
then you will not be able to swim correctly.
That's all. This is a very simple truth.
Next comes, of course, the nose,
what is happening to you from above.
And the last is the underwater part of the mushroom.
There are 4 elements
that should really be paid attention to
and put them in the right technical state.
But without any details
about the wrists,
about the breath,
about this window
when we open,
when we push the water with our shoulder,
and so on. There are a lot of such details.
And you can look for them to infinity.
And let the professionals do this,
who earn money on this
and devote their lives to it.
Swim with pleasure, swim for the sake of results,
but with your mind.
I almost forgot to tell you
that, of course, you need to control
your results during the training process.
And, of course, when you are really
preparing for some competition,
the results will not grow constantly.
The body cannot progress constantly.
There is always development,
then a little fall,
then development again, then fall again.
This is, in principle, the law of life,
that there is no constant development.
There is no constant recovery,
overloading,
overloading of new technical information.
And, of course, the result will not
increase constantly and get better constantly.
Therefore, if you are engaged in functionality,
do not be afraid
if you do not improve constantly.
This is normal.
The main thing is to make sure
that you feel good.
Check with the doctor, preferably.
Do some basic self-checkup,
such as pulse measurement
You can read everything on the Internet.
Now access to information is absolutely free.
Approach the sport wisely
and then progress will not make you wait.
I say goodbye to you.
See you in the next videos.
Bye Bye!
