Hey guys, good morning.
It's Mike Chang here and today is going to be an amazing, amazing food day.
And before that, I'm going to get my day started with the sponsor of this video, AG1.
I've been recommending and using AG1 for several years now.
So every single morning, a scoop or travel pack of AG1, 8 to 12 ounces of water, shake
it up and drink.
And that right there covers my nutritional basis with 75 vitamins, minerals, whole foods
sourced nutrients that aids my brain, aids my gut, which I desperately need.
So a pack or a scoop of AG1 a day, I get my prebiotics, probiotics, plant-based enzymes
that help support digestion and my overall gut health.
I also don't really like eating fruits.
So with this, I get my daily dose of vitamin C, zinc, functional mushrooms, and more to
help my overall immune health as well.
I've always said this, taking AG1 every single morning has been one of the best health decisions
I've made for myself because it actually works.
Since taking this every day, I have more energy.
I feel healthier.
I recommend this to my parents.
I always recommend this to my friends and it's just so convenient.
Before, I used to carry around at least half a dozen bottles of vitamins.
It's expensive.
It's cumbersome.
It rattles a lot.
Now, every day, pack of this.
I'm good.
So if you want to give it a try, go to my link down below.
You'll get a free one-year supply of immune-supporting D3 K2 and five free travel packs with your
water.
All right.
Let's get the food day started.
Hey, guys.
Mike Chen here in New Orleans.
One thing I have never had in New Orleans before, an all-you-can-eat Cajun buffet until
today.
So breakfast is going to be at Louisiana Purchase Kitchen.
I actually never knew there were a bunch of Cajun buffets in New Orleans.
So this one's only about $12 on weekdays and I see all the classic Cajun Creole dishes
on this buffet.
Fried chicken.
There's dirty rice.
There's Cajun baked chicken.
There's dressing.
There's potatoes.
There's mac and cheese.
And of course, gumbo.
That's not a bad gumbo.
Really big chunks of sausages and chicken.
Nice and thick and rich.
Got a good amount of heat in here, too.
Add a little bit of the hot sauce.
Yeah, the gumbo here is awesome.
Also got some dirty rice.
I think I'm just okay with the dirty rice.
It's a bit too sweet for me.
And some eggplant dressing.
I didn't even know what eggplant dressing was before today, but this is amazing.
And this dressing, you can taste a ton of garlic.
You can definitely taste the eggplant.
There's a lot of andouille sausage in here as well.
This thing is smoky, a little sweet.
Mmm.
That is the greatest thing.
I can't believe I never knew about this before.
And look at this Cajun roasted chicken.
Beautiful golden brown skin.
Look at that wonderful char as well.
This is a killer chicken.
I love this buffet.
This chicken is so smoky and juicy and tender.
Do you see the chicken glistening?
The skin is charred.
You can taste all that delicious spice on there.
Also the parts is a little crispy as well.
This is unbelievable.
Round two.
Oh, I just thought that that wasn't dirty rice.
It was pepper rice.
My mistake.
Round two, I got some chicken itofi.
Got some fried cabbage.
That looks amazing.
Mac and cheese, fried chicken, and some mashed potatoes.
I gotta go back and get some gravy later.
Couldn't really fit it all on this plate.
This is the itofi.
First time I had this dish was the last time I was in New Orleans.
This itofi is excellent.
I forgot to grab rice for it, but oh my gosh.
It's thick, rich, smoky, tons of heat, and this flavor is so deep.
Chunks of chicken, nice and tender.
This is actually really good over mashed potatoes.
Wow.
Oh, they are hitting it out of the park with every single thing I try.
Can't believe all the times I've been to New Orleans, I've never found this buffet before.
It's blowing my mind right now.
Look at this fried catfish.
Delicate white meat, lightly fried, really crispy on the outside, glistening, juicy catfish
on the inside.
Mmm.
Oh, that catfish is so good.
And the batter has a little bit of heat to it.
I think they either added some pepper or a little bit of cayenne.
Add a little bit of hot sauce to this.
Oh, that's such a good catfish.
There's some mac and cheese.
Mmm.
That's a very al dente mac and cheese.
Pasta, not soggy at all.
Super chewy and springy.
And look at this fried chicken.
Beautifully glistening, very crunchy fried chicken.
Mmm.
Oh my gosh.
I hate fruity breads.
I really do.
Especially when it's a place you've been to many times, then you realize that you could
have been eating this for many, many, many years before.
This is one of the greatest fried chicken, not just on a buffet, ever.
Wow.
And I can eat as much of this as I want.
It's so crispy on the outside.
Inside it's just bursting with juice.
You need to employ the bite and slurp method with this chicken.
The outside crunch will shatter your senses on the inside.
Look at that glistening, juicy meat.
And the greatest thing about this chicken is the seasoning of the batter is incredible.
There's so much flavor.
There's so much heat.
This is a spicy, spicy fried chicken.
You don't need any hot sauce here.
This is absolutely perfect the way it is.
Round three, some smothered cabbage.
I found a bigger piece of chicken.
They also have spinach artichoke dip.
And then I finally got some of that pork.
It's a roast pork gravy with slices of roast pork in there.
Cabbage has bits of pork in here as well.
Mmm.
That cabbage is so good.
Oh, that's seasoned so nicely.
Spinach artichoke dip.
I think that one's just okay.
It's a bit sweet for me.
Mmm.
That pork inside the gravy, that's as tender as can be.
And it's so good.
Unbelievable.
And this buffet is not a chain.
It kind of looks like a Golden Corral.
This is one of the most flavorful buffets I've ever been to.
Again, $12 on weekdays.
And each day some of the dishes changes as well.
Sometimes they have baked oysters.
I wish I was able to taste that.
Some days they have crab cakes.
Whatever they serve, I know it's gonna be delicious.
This is 100% a must try in New Orleans.
Not just New Orleans.
This is one of the most worth it buffets I've ever encountered in the U.S.
Maybe the most worth it.
Because the food is actually amazing.
This giant piece of fried chicken.
Look at the size of this monstery.
Look at that beautiful crust.
Mmm.
It's so hot and juicy.
You definitely feel that heat after about five chews.
I mean, $12 is worth it to come just for the fried chicken alone.
They brought out a brand new tray of Disney Plane Dressing.
Mmm.
Oh, it's even better.
I think this is my favorite dish on the buffet.
For dessert, they have some lemon pie.
Which is awesome.
Home pudding with rum sauce on top.
Oh, this bread pudding is magical.
Everything about this.
The crumble on top.
The warm, chewy bread.
And the rum sauce.
It just ties everything together.
Mmm.
This has been one of my favorite buffets I've ever been to.
Just the pure price to flavor ratio.
I mean, you can go to really expensive buffets and only like a few items.
Looking at you, Wicked Spoon.
This place, everything is good.
It's good.
It's authentic flavors.
It's pretty much everything you want to eat in New Orleans.
All on one buffet.
And again, it's delicious.
This is definitely still a very local place that I don't think a lot of tourists come here.
But what a deal this place is.
Dinner tonight is at Commander's Palace.
This is a restaurant I've never been to before in New Orleans.
But everyone says you've got to try this place at least once in your life.
This restaurant was built by an admiral over 120 years ago.
And it's been serving Cajun and Creole dishes ever since.
And it is a nice place.
So there is a dress code.
Hence the shirt.
As soon as you sit down, they serve up a mouge bouche and garlic bread.
Mouge bouche is a pork belly on a pork crackling.
That's a sweet, delicious piece of bacon.
Oh my gosh.
This is so cheesy.
I love it.
First dish, shrimp and taso hennigan.
Gulf white shrimp stuffed with taso ham.
Which is a smoked spiced ham.
There's pickled okra, red onions.
The bottom is a layer of fried pepper jelly.
And crystal hot sauce.
Wow.
This dish is ridiculous.
Oh wow.
Wow.
However many wows I just gave this.
I don't feel like that's enough.
The shrimp is so sweet.
Ham is nice and toasty.
Both of them are amazing.
But this fried pepper jelly sauce.
Oh my gosh.
That is so good.
I mean this thing is spicy.
It's peppery.
It's citrusy.
I don't want to waste a single drop of this.
The ham too.
Ridiculously smoky with a nice chew.
I love chasing that bite with some of the red onions.
And dare I say.
This is the best okra I've ever had in my life.
I don't think I've ever had pickled okra before.
And the seeds of the okra almost taste like little sweet peas.
The rest of this stuff.
Take my garlic bread.
I'm going to wipe off this pepper jelly.
This thing is so good.
I feel like I want everything I eat to be on top of this pepper jelly.
I mean the perfect balance of sweet.
Savory.
Peppery.
And refreshing fragrance.
That pretty much tastes like everything I love in the world.
Something else I got.
Check out this bone marrow.
On this plate there's chili butter.
A salad of spicy arugula.
An Alabama peach confiture.
There's a crystal pulled buttermilk biscuit.
Oh this is so beautiful.
Gorgeous biscuit and butter.
Take some of that bone marrow.
Put it on the biscuit.
Add some of the chili butter.
Some of the peaches.
This is one of the greatest bone marrow dishes in all the land.
The biscuit is buttery.
It's flaky.
Every time you chew you get that crunch from the crystal pulp.
This chili butter.
Oh my gosh.
It's a very slow burner.
This thing goes down nice and creamy.
And then your mouth just gets lit on fire.
The marrow is smoky.
It dissolves as soon as it enters your mouth.
That peach is smoky and sweet.
It actually goes really, really, really well.
With the arugula.
Usually when you get bone marrow, you get bone marrow on some toast.
That's a whole new way to eat bone marrow.
I'm so happy I have a whole loaf of bread.
Take the bone marrow.
Look at it drip already onto the bread.
The rest of it onto the bread.
Load up that chili butter.
And the peaches and arugula.
That's almost an overwhelming bite.
Sweet, savory, smoky, gelatinous-y.
With the nice crunch from the arugula.
This dish is absolutely phenomenal.
Next course, soup.
This is a very exciting course for me.
So this restaurant allows you to get a sampler of all their soups.
So on the left is their gumbo.
They make it without rice.
And they explained to me that's because their gumbo already has enough body.
So don't necessarily need the rice.
The top is a mushroom potage.
And the right, turtle soup.
This is a soup that has been around New Orleans for over 120 years.
Oh wow.
Their gumbo is super thick.
Rich and thick and full of good stuff.
Oh, their gumbo is so good.
This gumbo is rich, it's hearty.
It's probably the richest gumbo I've ever had.
Tons of different ingredients in here.
You can taste the sausage, the chicken.
And the roux is just so smoky.
You definitely taste all the different spices.
It's very earthy and rustic.
And just so satisfying.
I'm definitely a fan of that.
Next is the mushroom potage.
Looks kind of just like a cream mushroom soup.
Oh, this is amazing.
Like really, really earthy.
Tastes like a very concentrated, much mushroom-y, earthy mushroom soup.
Mmm, that's delicious.
I just realized these two plates together kind of act like a little lazy Susan.
So, turtle soup.
Inside there's veal, turtle of course.
It's cooked with sherry and also sherry is added on top.
Some eggs and it's a tomato-based soup.
I think the first time I ever heard of turtle soup was from watching the Ninja Turtles when I was a kid.
You know, when Shredder's always like,
Tonight, we're gonna dine on turtle soup.
I guess tonight, so shall I.
Very zesty and meaty.
And the turtle is cooked for three days.
They add the veal because there's no fat on the turtle.
So, the veal provides that fatty component.
First time having turtle.
Kind of tastes like beef.
I don't think I'll ever look at the Ninja Turtles the same way again.
Next, we have the pecan-crusted goldfish.
So, it's pecan-crusted fish with roasted corn, asparagus, grilled kale,
melted leeks, and whiskey-spiked crushed corn cream.
Oh my gosh.
Oh, this is the best of the best.
Wow, fish is really flaky and delicate.
There's also a ton of crab meat they put on this.
You can definitely taste the whiskey.
It adds a whole different layer of depth.
The corn is beautifully smoking and popping and sweet.
I don't think I've ever had a fish dish like this before.
With every single ingredient cooked perfectly.
This is a take your breath away after every single bite kind of dish.
Also, that extra sweetness you get from that crab.
This is a must-try if you ever come here.
Dessert time, and this is something I've been anticipating all day.
The bread pudding souffle.
So, if you're ever in New Orleans, one of the must-try desserts is bread pudding.
Here, they make bread pudding into a souffle with whiskey cream on top.
This is the greatest bread pudding.
It's the greatest souffle.
This might just be the greatest dessert on the planet.
Wow.
How good this is.
The souffle is so airy and light.
The whiskey cream is delicious.
It tastes like a misty whiskey ring.
Drizzled on a cloud.
And that's what you're shoving into your mouth.
I've had plenty of souffles in my life.
This is the best.
The crust is beautiful.
And at the same time, you get some of the chewiness from the bread pudding.
This is like a multi-layer experience.
This is shockingly good.
Not shockingly like, I can't believe this place can make a dessert this good.
Shocking as, every time you take a bite, it feels like something is shocking your body.
That's how good this is.
This might just be the best dessert on this planet.
Also, I got an upside-down pineapple cake.
This is a pineapple upside-down bayou rum cake.
So, it's candy pineapple stuffed vanilla sponge cake.
Soaked in bayou rum and spiked caramel.
With ginger lime curd, coconut granola, and salted lime sorbet.
This is really good as well.
The pineapple cake is spongy, it's fruity.
I like the crunch from the granola, I like the ginger.
The very refreshing sorbet.
I mean, this is an A-level dessert.
But after that souffle, that's pretty much all I can think about.
Wow, this place, I've always heard about this place.
But actually coming here, the hype is real.
I feel like it's under-hyped, how good this place is.
From the service, to every single bite of food that goes in your mouth.
It's absolutely exceptional.
Especially that fish dish.
That, I think, is the best fish dish I've ever had.
And that souffle is just unimaginably good.
I feel like saying, highly recommend.
Wouldn't do this place justice.
But yeah, you gotta come check this place out whenever you're in New Orleans.
And if you see that fish dish, or that souffle dish on the menu, grab it.
As always, all the places I went to are listed down below for you guys.
Thank you all so much for watching.
Until we meet again, peace.
