Well it's been the perfect start for City so far, maximum points, 14 goals scored,
just three conceded. Throw in an opening victory in the defence of their Champions League trophy
and a UEFA Super Cup already bagged for the trophy cabinet and the 23-24 campaign
has simply picked up where the treble winning season left off. And emerging Nottingham Forest
are the latest challenger. It is one of those games where you suspect that the visitors are
going to sit tight, sit deep, try to keep in the game as long as possible.
Walkers round the back, lays it off, Foden hits it, that is a quite magnificent goal.
They're going to check for a VAR offside but if it's not, that is a simply sensational goal.
A lovely diagonal ball up from Rodri, Walker burst clear of the last defender,
helped it back to Phil Foden and Foden clobbered it left-footed into the corner of the net.
There is a quick check from VAR but at the moment it's City 1, Forest 0.
Well I have to say I simply think this is a world-class goal.
Well the good news is there is no VAR overall and it is City 1, Nottingham Forest 0.
Doku looking up, seeing a crowd of players in front of him, lays it off to Rodri,
Rodri on towards Ruben Diaz, Diaz trying to poke it through to Foden and the first-time ball
was aimed at Aguanyi but City pick it off through Matias Nunez, little dummy,
Foden, Matias Nunez, this is terrific, Haaland, what a goal, what a goal!
If the first goal was superb, the second might just have edged it.
You will not see a team as good as this anywhere in world football right now, I promise you,
both these goals today tell you everything about the quality that is Manchester City.
Wow this is just superb, I said the first bit was world-class, well this matches it,
this is just absolutely beautiful and the one thing I like, I'm watching Haaland before the
ball comes in and we always think strikers should move but what happens is he actually
realises there's not a need to move, the space is where I am.
You talk about individual goals and they're always fantastic to witness but is there anything better
than to watch two team goals as good as the two the Blues have scored today?
Here's Phil Foden, it goes to Rodri, Rodri on to Guardiola,
helps it on to Rodri again, Rodri looking up into the gap for Foden, lovely turn,
on to Alvarez, Alvarez hits the shot on target, that Turner's position was good,
really a good again from City.
Good time in a run from Alvarez, just wants to get it a little bit wider.
Orien on to Gibbs-White, Gibbs-White midway inside the City half, Rodri with the clearance,
City in possession of the ball, Haaland now comes forward and Foden gets away from a couple of
challenges, holds on to the ball neatly, plays it to Guardiola, Rodri, Foden, Rodri, City now
starting to move forward, Pep Guardiola stands and applauds the way in which the Blues got
themselves out of a tight spot with some just real precise passing really, nothing more than that.
Walker in, back to Akanji, the sun comes out over the Etihad Stadium and the Blues are dazzling,
the ball is Alvarez, Alvarez midway inside the Forest half, into the gap for Doku,
Doku now into the penalty area, comes inside, plays it, Alvarez, mishit, deflection corner,
Alvarez didn't hit it truly enough and by the time he sort of connected with it,
there was a Forest defender in the way and well it could easily have been three.
Well it's Nottingham Forest's third visit to the Etihad Stadium, that's all,
they won their first visit here in FA Cup tie in January 2009, they lost the second
last season 6-0 and they trailed by two goals tonight. I've tried to attack City in the right
back position and Rodri squares up to Gibbs-White and there's a bit of push and shove and it's all
got a bit silly and Gibbs-White's thrown himself to the floor and Rodri has just been sent off,
he's just sent Rodri off, well there was a bit of push and shove in the corner and then Gibbs-White
and Rodri were squaring up to each other, there was push and shove, Rodri is suggesting that VAR
ought to check that. I think the referee has just interpreted that, when he's put his hands around
violent conduct. VAR have confirmed and City are down to 10 and they'll be without Rodri for the
next three matches. City have a throw and eventually it's thumped forward into no man's
land, City are going to have to do that today, it's going to be as if they're the away team
because Forest are going to dominate possession. City lead 2-0, Rodri's been sent off for violent
conduct after a tussle with Gibbs-White that Gibbs-White did make an awful lot of,
VAR checked, it said Anthony Taylor got the decision right, the ball is cleared by Ruben
Diaz, it's headed away and it was aimed towards Harland and Forest have it with Bonnie in the
centre circle, he plays a long ball up towards Awani and the flag has stayed down and Awani puts
it over the bar and the referee, oh hang on, Edison's now getting involved with Awani and Edison's got
to watch himself, Awani and Edison went face to face, Awani and Edison get yellow cards and just
for a moment it looked like City might get another red card. We don't know if they see him in this
position and maybe he's felt that the attackers left a foot in but the two of them are having a go.
The ball is now midway inside the City half, Montiel comes towards the final third,
out wide it goes to Elanga, Elanga wide on the right, Ake's with it, Elanga goes inside, plays
it to Gibbs-White who loses it, Harland holds it up, good ball into the path of Foden, Foden
scampering forward, Harland's coming up with him, Foden scampering still, he takes on Bonnie round
the outside, he's got round him, he's in the penalty area and it's a terrific challenge
and it goes out for a corner, Montiel did well but that's brilliant from City. It really is and
for me I was just about to say I think what Harland needs to do is actually be slightly
deeper to be part of the three and that attack actually comes from him being slightly deeper
to that corner attack and ends up being a beautiful bit of play from Foden as well.
Free kick to City, pops it out towards Ake, Ake gets to it, plays it across and Harland,
oh what a chance, Harland with a first time volley on his right foot and he put it over the
bar, that would have sunk Forest once and for all, a ball out to Ake, Ake just helped it back
to Harland and Harland on his right foot, first time volley, put it over the top of the net,
another seven minutes of added time that's gone up on the fourth official's board.
Mangala gets away from Grealish, plays it up towards Mangala again, Mangala striding forward,
he's going at City down the City right, the ball is wide on the right hand side, infield it goes
to Mangala, on it goes now to Niokate, Niokate plays it to Gibbs-White, Gibbs-White helps it
on to the right winger Hudson-Odoi, Gibbs-White again, ball in, shot comes in, brilliant save by
Ederson, terrific agility from Ederson, full stretch, left palm tips it round the post,
corners taken already, Gibbs-White to deliver it, City want to get this one away,
they're not going to just yet, volley on the edge of the area, hits the shot, Ederson makes the save.
I'm joking, it's a lot of world-class action that's happening today, that is a superb save
because Zangalo actually, he has a volley, it's down low and Ederson just gets his left hand to
it, I think it's a beautiful save, it really is, it's been a very different way to win a match
today but the Blues have toughed it out, that is a brilliant victory, City 2-0 up and cruising
and then early in the second half after two wonderful team goals, one from Haaland, one
from Foden put them in control, Rodri clashed with Morgan Gibbs-White, it is City 2, Nottingham
4-0.
