Hi guys, today I'm in Piazza Leonardo in front of the Politecnico di Milano
because we're going to talk about admission in this university.
There are several faculties, as you probably already know,
Engineering, Design and Architecture,
and for each one there is a different access mode.
The tests vary and the modalities change a bit.
So today we're going to talk to students who attend these faculties
and who are also the advisors of Top Squad Poli.me,
which I'm going to tell you about in more detail.
Now I'm entering Poli, where I meet Giacomo,
because it's the first day of lessons here at Poli.
In fact, there is a bit of noise around.
Giacomo studies Engineering,
and then I meet Michele, who studies Design.
Ok, here we are, it should be here, classroom 201.
Hi Jack.
Hi Marco.
How are you?
Today is the first day of university, September 13th.
So you had a lesson, what did you have?
Classical subject for Engineering,
quite tough, but if you like math, you will appreciate it.
I did Telecommunications, which is already more vertical than my faculty.
I study Engineering and Automation in my second year.
Ok, great, interesting.
So let's go meet Michele,
who actually comes from outside because he is in Bovisa,
because he does Design and the other campus is in Bovisa.
Keep in mind that the engineering faculties are more or less equally divided
between the historical seat of Piazza Leo, where we are now,
and the more modern one in Bovisa.
Anyway Jack, I like this campus a lot.
Yes, I admit that Leonardo's campus has its reasons.
The classrooms are sometimes a bit old, so they are not very comfortable,
but the historical buildings really deserve it.
By the way, when I came to make the video with Gaia,
it was very turned off, it was all empty because it was during the summer,
while now that the lessons have started, it's nice and lively.
Here he is!
Hi Michi, how are you?
Great!
So, you were in Bovisa?
I'm in Bovisa, I do Design and Industrial Product, I'm in my third year.
Ok.
But I'm here in Leonardo because I teach Design and Engineering,
so we've already started with meetings, and we're starting the year.
With these two guys, also with Gaia,
who you saw in the last video where we compare
Management Engineering with Business Economy and Management,
we have opened a new project, which I already told you about in the video with Gaia,
which is Top Squad Polimi.
Top Squad is a network of guys, both from high school and from university,
whose goal is to help you get into university.
To understand more about the mission,
so for example, what we're going to talk about in this video,
but also about everything that is life at the Politecnico and, in general, life in Milan.
So I suggest you enter, you can find the module in the description,
to sign up and join the WhatsApp groups, and I'll see you in there.
So here we are with Michele, who does Design,
and how do we work at the Politecnico,
as far as Design and Architecture are concerned?
First of all, as far as Design is concerned, we have two windows.
Ok.
An early session, which goes from April to July,
and a standard session, which is only in August.
It is possible to hold only one test for each session,
so it is important to be very careful.
The early session is intended for both diplomats and students of the 5th high school,
while the standard session is only for diplomats.
What is the test, which is the TOLD, right?
There are various sections, various topics,
there is the Logic section, Verbal Comprehension,
History of Art and History of Design,
General Culture, Representation and Design,
and the English part.
As for the English part, guys, don't worry,
because it is quite simple.
Obviously, do it conscientiously, but don't worry.
As for the score, for each correct answer, a point is awarded.
For every wrong answer, minus 0.25,
for every wrong answer, zero.
Unlike Engineering, there are no different weights depending on the topic,
but all the topics have the same weight.
And so, this score for correct answers and the penalties for wrong answers
are the same as for the Engineering test,
which we will go into in great detail with Giacomo.
Exactly.
What do you recommend to prepare? How did you prepare?
First of all, the Politecnico offers online a simulation of the test,
with reduced times and, obviously, fewer questions.
It is recommended to study from the books of the Science High School
as regards the area of Geometry,
from the books of the Art History High School
as regards the History of Art,
the Design and the Representation.
In addition, of course, the test books for the mission are very common,
which are specific for Design.
So now let's move on to Architecture. How does it work?
So, first of all, the structure of the Architecture test
is dictated by the directives of the Ministry.
There is a single date, which is online.
It's a bit like for Medicine, Architecture.
Exactly. As regards the structure of the Architecture test,
we have the topics of comprehension of the text,
logical reasoning, knowledge, current affairs and general culture,
design and representation, mathematics and physics and English.
How do you prepare for the Architecture test?
So, the Politecnico offers MOOCs,
so online courses,
which allow you to have a proper training for the test.
It is recommended to use the books for the admission tests
and to have a general knowledge.
Interesting.
It is also recommended to prepare
by going to see what are the topics
published within the official CISIA website.
To find out more about this information,
on the Politecnico website, which I leave you in the description,
you can go and dig into all the various questions.
Exactly.
Let's understand with Giacomo, who is doing engineering
and has done the engineering test,
how does the admission to the Politecnico work?
First of all, it is necessary to clarify who can take the admission test.
You can take the test if you are in a higher faculty
in case you take the fifth or if you are already a diplomat.
With regard to this, however, it is necessary to make a small clarification.
If you are in a higher faculty,
your only goal is to get enough for the test
and therefore get at least 60 points out of 100.
In this case, you will secure a place in any faculty
you want at the time of the admission.
It's a different story if you are in the fifth.
In this case, the score counts.
In fact, getting a higher score
will allow you to have more possibilities
to access the most requested faculties,
such as engineering, space or mechanics.
Instead, how does it work for the timetables?
When can you take the test?
If you are in a higher faculty, you can take the test once a month,
but the moment you get enough,
you will have to settle for that,
since you will already have secured a place after the admission.
So the important thing is to get enough.
It's a different story if you are in the fifth or if you are already a diplomat.
In this case, there are three possible windows
and you can take the test once for each window.
In this case, of course, you can repeat the test
to get a higher score.
As for the test, let's get into the specifics.
How is it structured?
What are the modalities and what are the topics?
The test includes four sections that make up a total of 100 points.
The most consistent part is that of logic and mathematics,
which alone is worth 65 points.
Then there is a part of physics that is worth 10 points,
one of verbal comprehension worth 15 points
and finally the English part is worth only 10 points.
So, as you can see,
different topics have specific weights.
How much time is available for the test?
In total, 100 minutes, which are divided among the various topics.
So each module has specific times
and you can't do like first math, a little bit of English, a little bit of...
The times are set, since the test is done online
and you don't decide when to deliver or receive it in different sections.
So you say the test is done online, right?
It's always done from your home with your own devices.
However, you will find the specific indications at the time of registration
on the Poli website.
These are simple multiple response tests
to which you will respond with your device.
However, if you can do various simulations
to make sure that all the instruments work at their best,
don't worry, this is certainly not the difficulty of the test.
Clear.
So all multiple answers, five questions,
divided into the subjects you said before,
divided into timestamps that have appeared.
How do you register for the test?
Very simple, just go to the Politecnico website,
access the online services,
you will have to create a simple account, it is not difficult there.
Select the date and time
and then simply pay 30 euros every time you want to take the test.
And now, important, I would say, tips for preparation.
The first, if I may, is to join the Polimi top squad,
which I have already told you about.
You will find in the description the link to the compiled module
and you will enter it on WhatsApp and you will be able to talk to Jack,
you will be able to talk to Miki,
you will be able to talk to other guys who also do different faculties
and ask them for their opinions, not only on the test,
but in general on the life at the Politecnico and on academic life.
We would be very happy to tell you all about our university
and all the information that you will never find on the Politecnico website.
Ok, and then preparation, how do you prepare for the Poli?
Obviously there are all the paid books,
the various alpha tests for engineering.
However, the Politecnico website makes available,
obviously for free, the so-called PoliTest,
which includes many PDFs in which there are solutions
and simulations of the old tests,
with a lot of explanation and correction of the various questions.
So my main advice is to know well
the math and physics programs of the higher quality,
in particular of the scientific level, perhaps they are the most suitable.
And then I would recommend, starting from my experience,
but also from many of my friends who have passed the test like me,
to practice on the simulations and still see the results of the Politecnico.
In this case, there are many resources online,
both videos and courses on YouTube that help to do the test.
Great, thanks Jack.
So guys, a big shout out to all the guys
who want to try to enter the Politecnico.
I remind you that in the description you will find the Poli website
for all the most detailed information,
the link to enter the WhatsApp groups of Top Squad,
where you will find Jack and Michele
and also other guys who do different faculties.
We hope we have been useful to you and we'll see you in the next video.
Bye everyone!
