Stuck in Mississippi! | Full Time Truck Camper Living | Van Life

Good morning. I am here at a rest stop just off of Interstate 10. I am leaving Florida and making my way back west starting today. I think this is going to be the weather. Top of the morning to you from Waveland, Mississippi. You might ask what I'm doing in Waveland, Mississippi. Well, I'm avoiding this polar vortex which is plaguing almost our entire nation. Staying warm, staying safe, and staying dry. I'm currently at a state park campground and I'm plugged in which means I can run my electric heater 24-7 which I have been and that's a good thing. I haven't really had a chance to take a look around this park. I got here the day before yesterday and I was a hermit yesterday pretty much just sitting in my camper and editing my most recent video. However, today I do plan to bundle up and take a look around. This is not really a destination location. It's a place that I saw on the map on my way to Texas and when I saw how bad this storm was going to be I decided just to stop and wait this thing out. Anyhow, I am ready to get my legs moving today and there isn't any rain expected today. At least not until later. But before that, I'm going to make some breakfast. I have been craving pancakes. So I'm going to make myself some flapjacks and that sounds really good. Nice warm flapjacks on a cold morning. That one's a little overdone. It'll still be good. Yum! Smells so good. The syrup smells so good. And the cinnamon. There's cinnamon in these. Yum. Mmm. Dishes are done and I'm bundled up and ready to head outside. I'm sporting these awesome gloves that my friend Dana gave to me for Christmas. I love them and they are coming in handy right now. Thank you, Dana. However, I'm not going exploring because it looks very Blair Witch-like and also like a gator could come out and attack me at any moment. So, I'll be passing on that. There hasn't been a whole lot to see in the way of scenery, but sometimes that's just the way it is. Sometimes you're in a gorgeous, beautiful location and sometimes you're just somewhere where you need to hunker down and stay safe. That's the reality of road life and I just wanted to show that to you. Buccaneer State Park in Waveline, Mississippi is only about an hour's drive from New Orleans, Louisiana. It also felt the devastating blow of Hurricane Katrina back in 2005. Use of this land was first recorded in the late 1700s when Gene Lafitte and his followers were active in smuggling and pirating along the coast. I just had a couple walk up to me to say hello and they happened to be viewers of the channel, Bob and Leanne. Thanks so much for saying hello. They are full-time RVers and they are doing the exact same thing I am. They are waiting out this storm as they head cross-country to Utah. Well, I ran into my new friends Bob and Leanne once again and we decided to hike the Creepy Nature Trail together as a team. So, that's what we're doing. It's actually really pretty out here in this marsh. I'm back in my warm, cozy camper enjoying some hot tea. That was a pleasant surprise running into those folks and I must say that everybody that I've met on the road has been so kind and I've had a lot of people come and say hello. Everybody's been very nice and it's nice to feel a sense of community especially at a place like where I am now where I'm in an unfamiliar town, I know no one and in strange circumstances and it's just great to have a sense of community. They are my neighbors next door, which is very cool and they're in a similar circumstance that I am so that makes me feel a little more at ease. Not so much that I didn't before because I do feel pretty comfortable being out on my own and I feel pretty good about my instincts as to knowing whether I'm safe or not. I always trust my gut and my vibe and if I don't feel right someplace, I leave. This place has felt pretty good and I've noticed a lot of friendly folks just walking their dogs and out with their kids and things like that. Definitely a sense of community in this little state park. Do you ever feel like you're being watched? Wow, I was just checking out what's going on in the world with this crazy storm and it is wreaking havoc. I saw that Texas is being hammered and there's a 100 car pile up. Absolutely insane. I might have mentioned this earlier, but tomorrow morning is going to be the coldest morning here. It's going to be record breaking lows. It's going to be about 19 degrees and I generally avoid staying in below freezing temperatures because I do not have a four season rig. However, if I leave all my cabinets open and my heat going all night long so that the hot air can be distributed through and around my pipes I should be okay. I've done that in the past and it has worked so knock on wood, it'll work again for me during these cold temps. A plus side of my situation is that I'm getting work done but I've worked up an appetite as well. When it's cold, I love comfort foods so tonight I am making some spaghetti. Dinner was definitely comforting and just what I needed. I think I am going to call it a night here and also call it a video. I want to thank you all so much for hunkering down with me. It definitely was not the video I expected to bring to you this week however, it was a video I was supposed to bring to you. One thing that I know and I have learned and probably the biggest lesson I've learned since being on the road is with this lifestyle you have to roll with the punches whatever they may be. You have to be incredibly flexible and sometimes things happen for varying reasons and this time it happens to be weather. It's to be expected. It is winter. I am looking forward to getting back on the road very shortly here when it is safe and looking forward to bringing you another adventure in the next video. Stay with me. It should be fun.
