Spring has come, and the harvest season is coming.
I'm sure many of you are thinking about a new life
with many resolutions, such as losing weight, eating healthy, exercising, or changing a habit.
These dark times will often draw a lot of bright scenes,
such as being famous for a spectacular transformation, or becoming more successful and confident.
But after going through a lot of similar tests,
it seems that the success rate of these New Year Resolutions is very low
and leads to boredom as well as reintegration with old habits.
According to Dr. Janet Polivy and Peter Hermann,
this phenomenon occurs due to False Hope Syndrome.
Specifically, people with this syndrome often have three characteristics.
First, it is an illusion of achievable results.
This symptom mainly originates from self-help books or famous models on the Internet
and is drawing a lot of very attractive scenes.
For example, you can lose tens of kilos in 6 weeks with a few simple tips and methods.
Promises about a short time, no effort, and achievable results are
Unbelievable!
We can't believe we can do that.
which makes many of you have a misconception about the effectiveness of the New Year Resolutions.
Next, False Hopers often set themselves very high and unrealistic goals.
People with this syndrome often tend to underestimate the time needed to change a habit
as well as being too confident about the success of the goals they have set.
And finally, people who have tried to change themselves in the past
often remember more about the successes that those efforts bring.
This is what makes False Hopers, when they start planning for the New Year Resolutions,
often very optimistic about the future because they think they are very close to the goal
and just need to try a little harder this year to achieve the results they want.
This is what makes the spirit of the False Hopers go down very quickly
when in fact it proves the opposite.
Because of that, those who fail to change themselves in the New Year Resolutions,
especially when it comes to exercising,
will usually arrange time to practice in extremely sensitive times,
such as 5pm.
This is when exercising has to compete with many other entertainment activities
such as drinking, watching movies, or gathering with friends.
And after a hard day of work,
our brain will usually only follow one law,
which is the Law of Least Effort,
which means that everyone will only choose which activity needs the least effort to do.
That's why choosing the right time,
combined with the 3 points I just mentioned,
will make the False Hopers very difficult to achieve the goals they have set.
So, to help you be more successful in completing the New Year Resolutions,
scientists have come up with a few very useful tips.
First, that is to determine a specific realistic goal
based on the Smart Plan,
with S for Specific,
M for Measurable,
A for Achievable,
R for Realistic,
and T for Time-bound.
For example, quitting drinking in the New Year will be a very ambitious goal,
but not a very smart one.
Instead, drinking only 2 cups of wine on the weekend for the next month
will be much more effective than the usual way.
Next, that is to make each change one,
instead of choosing too many at the same time.
Specifically, if you want to exercise, eat healthy, and live a healthier life,
start with exercising in the first 2 months,
and after this activity becomes a habit,
we will switch to the usual changes,
instead of being too ambitious to feel stressed
because you can't achieve the goals you have set.
Third, that is to use a friend,
or at least write your own plan of change on social media
or comment on your videos
so that everyone and your friends can become observers
as well as support us in the process of transformation.
Because having someone else to remind and accompany
will help increase the success rate of the New Year's resolutions a lot.
And the fourth tip,
that is to reward yourself as soon as you achieve certain successes.
Because recent research has shown
that changes such as weight loss or diet
are often not activities that create a sense of pleasure,
so combining them with rewards
will deceive the feeling of the brain
and help us keep up with these changes for a longer time.
And finally, the New Year has come,
the time of the New Year is coming,
I would like to send to everyone,
especially the Drawers of Draw Your Brand,
a message of wishing you success,
a message of wishing you warmth,
a smile to overcome everything,
a will to overcome the hardships of the New Year,
and a new year full of joy and happiness.
I'm Minh, and this is Draw Your Brand.
