Flaming Mountain, in China's northwestern Xinjiang, is not literally on fire. It got the name for people thought they saw flames because the land is so barren and reddish in the summer. Located in the lowest point of the Turpan Basin, heat is trapped here, making it the hottest place on its latitude. Grapes grow on the valleys. And they are carried to dry in shade houses built to fully tap into the unique geographic features of the area.
