What's up party people and welcome back to my channel. So we're doing it
We're doing a product comparison a little this or that smackdown battle of the brand new Maybelline Superstay Skin Tint Foundation
Versus the L'Oreal Hyaluronic Acid Tinted Serum Foundation. If you're unfamiliar with me and my channel, this is a series
I do quite a bit on here called this or that where we basically just compare things side-by-side
things with similar claims to where you know
If you're shopping online or if you're in the store
You're walking down the aisles and you see all this makeup around you and everything kind of looks the same
This is just to kind of help you get some direction and kind of know where you want to go because it's pretty overwhelming
So before we get started just so you know for reference, I have combination acne prone skin and also for a shade reference
I'm in the shade 120 in the Maybelline Skin Tint and in the L'Oreal one
I have to mix a couple because I cannot find a perfect match like I've tried five shades and nothing's perfect for me
So I mix the shade medium and very light. So yeah without further ado
Let's do a little product comparison of these two foundations. Let's do an all-day wear test and let's see which one is truly better
All right. Let's start with the L'Oreal True Match Serum foundation first just because it's the oldest one. So this is $19.99 at Ulta
So it's $20. That's the most I've ever seen it
They actually say this is the first
tinted serum foundation with 1% hyaluronic acid luminous mineral pigments provide sheer lightweight coverage for a brightened complexion
While hyaluronic acid gives skin a hydrated feel and smooths over time
So I'm sure everyone knows by now but in case you're looking at this and you're like, wait a minute
Why does that not look like what I'm used to seeing? Normally it looks like this. It has a medicine dropper
This is super messy
Like when you put the medicine dropper back into the bottle it just kind of like oozes out the side
It's just it's not fun to travel with it's not fun to store. It's just it's a wreck
So I found these on Amazon these little like gold pumps that are supposed to be for the L'Oreal like the original True Match foundation
But they actually work for the serum foundation as well. So I will link them below
I think it's like a pack of two for seven or eight dollars. Yeah, it's worth it
Moving over to the Maybelline Skin Tint foundation
So this is $17.99 at Ulta, but they have 18 shades versus the L'Oreal one, which has 14
So I think that's a nice improvement
So it says delivers bright buildable light to medium coverage for a skin like finish and a natural radiant look weightless feel up to 24
Hour wear resists sweat humidity and fading vitamin C infused vegan formula brightened skin insulin also over time
So what I think is really interesting about this if you don't know L'Oreal is actually the parent company of a lot of mega brands
But Maybelline in particular is owned by L'Oreal
My theory about this is that L'Oreal first released the tinted serum foundation saw how well it did
So they decided to monopolize the drugstore market and bring out
Maybelline's version of this like it's the same kind of consistency the same kind of claims
But the biggest difference is the ingredient call-out. So again the L'Oreal one its big call-out is hyaluronic acid
Whereas this one is vitamin C and texture wise consistency wise they look
They look identical they just look like different shades like even in the bottles they have the same look to them
You can see this like shimmery like micro shimmer particle
Iridescence to it like it almost looks like the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Falls filter like the way that looks in the bottle
Let me get that out real quick not saying they're dupes
They're not at all, but like the Charlotte Tilbury one has that kind of like shimmery
Essence to like it just looks very glowy in the bottle. L'Oreal one has that same kind of essence
I may see more of that shimmer particle in the Maybelline one
So I'm gonna make sure to shake up both of these really really well
So here's what my skin looks like without makeup on so yeah
I don't really have any raised like super textured bumps like nothing's really inflamed or anything like everything's just kind of flat
So I always like to use a stippling brush with this type of formula the consistency and stuff where it's more watery
I'm gonna go ahead and mix up my shade
So once again, I mix the shade medium and very light for the L'Oreal side
I will say the bad thing about these pumps though is that when the product gets really low basically can't pump anything out
So that's something that is worth noting
So I like to do with these foundations and any kind of foundation like these like a serum foundation skin tint
I'll lay it all down completely like lay it down with my finger and really like like I'll lay the product down
Especially on the areas where I have more to cover up so that it just kind of solidifies and it gives me better coverage
So I'll sit here for maybe
30 seconds to a minute
we'll say you don't want to let this sit on your face too long before blending or it will get kind of
Kind of dry to the point where you kind of lose the glow and it's a really pretty natural skin like finish
I thought that's the reason why so many people love this because
Natural satin skin like finishes will work well on like every skin type
I'm gonna use my little brush pad again and try to clean off the excess. All right, mostly clean brush
So going into 120 in the Maybelline skin tint
I'm just gonna go ahead and
Dot this all over my face kind of lay down
The base work and doing this method where you lay it down first with your finger and kind of let it solidify and dry
down also makes it work better with sponges
So if you don't want to use a brush or you just like the finish of a sponge better by letting it solidify
You're not absorbing so much product with the sponge
Once again, I'm gonna wait
I don't know maybe like 30 seconds 45 seconds something like that and when I apply it the exact same way in circular motions
All right, so there's that side. So once again don't need to apply a second layer, which is very surprising
So this right off the bat like if you do a little solidify technique will give you or gives me anyway full coverage covered up
Everything the blending process on both of these is just effortless. Like it is so dreamy and like it they're fun to apply
Yeah, here's a L'Oreal side
Here is the Maybelline side. So let's turn on the ISO even more now get up close
You check out my pores really get in there
They both sit so pretty and naturally on my pores
I really don't see a big difference from side to side like the texture
I'm like the exact same there is a little bit more glow on my skin with the Maybelline foundation
I feel like the L'Oreal one. It's just a little bit more of like a set-down
Semi-matte finish. They're both super lightweight. Very very thin very like movable with your skin
It feels like your skin like it feels like there's nothing on here. Alright guys, here's the finished look
So once again, everything I'm used to they will be list below in the description box for a full-on breakdown
Check down there see a little more glow and radiance when I move my head on the Maybelline side
But I mean as far as how they look on the skin, they sit the exact same way
It's just kind of funny about how not subtle they are about it
They don't try to be inconspicuous at all. They put them in the exact same bottle the exact same packaging medicine dropper
Oh, we'll put hyaluronic acid in this one and vitamin C in this one. They'll never know the difference
I will say just from using the Maybelline one very consistently here recently. I have been
Totally in love with it. Like for those of you that have been asking for an update like do you still like it?
I am mind blown by it
I've not had a bad day since I started using this and I've had bad skin days like today's a good one
But I have had pretty bad acne days where I've got a lot of flare-ups and stuff and it still looks
Amazing on my skin, which is very very rare
But yeah
I'll see you guys later on tonight to conclude the wear test and do a final roundup and figure out which one once and for
All is better in my opinion. So I'll see you guys. Alrighty guys final checkout time
So it is now 1208 at night. Our check-in time was 240, which means that we are what nine and a half hours working on 10
We'll probably get to 10 by the time we get done with this video because I've got a lot to say
Just a little reminder. This is the Maybelline side on the left and this is the L'Oreal side on the right
So I'm gonna do this in a couple of different parts. Okay, so part one is gonna be my observations getting up close
Just kind of giving you guys my opinion like which one I like better the differences
I see part two is gonna be the ingredient breakdown. So I've actually sat here for about 45 minutes going through
Ingredient by ingredient each formula. So to keep it short and sweet. I see
Very few differences. Honestly, the differences kind of balance each other out like it's kind of like a teeter-totter like, you know
One may be better in one circumstance, but then it's got a downfall that the other one doesn't have
You know I'm saying L'Oreal side
I feel like held up better in terms of the cheap products like I feel like my cheap products are just going stronger like
It just looks a tad bit fresher versus the Maybelline side where I do have a little more fading like the colors just aren't as
Intense and strong that could be different factors. That could be because my little girl may have touched this side of my face more
I don't know. Maybe I touch this side of my face more also on the L'Oreal side
I feel like my acne isn't peeking through as much as this side where I've got some more fading
However on the L'Oreal side, I see dryness and texture right around my blemishes right through here
So anywhere where there was like a kind of textured scabby kind of blemish, it just looks more dry
It looks more emphasized and just kind of powdery whereas I don't see that problem on the Maybelline side
But the way both of these sit on the skin the way they sit on my pores
Like how they look from side to side the finish of both of them
You can see like the same amount of oil peek through on both sides like not shiny not greasy
Just natural oils that come through the way that they're not settling into my lines. They're not creating lines
They look like the exact same foundation just a little more wear and tear on different areas of my face
So here is my conclusion. Okay up to this point like up until today's wear test
I have enjoyed the Maybelline foundation more. I should feel like the Maybelline one
I have to use less of it whenever my skin is really acne
I have a lot of flare-ups a lot of inflammation the Maybelline one still pulls through like it still is a beautiful blending process
It's still just erases over the blemishes. It just sits on them. So beautifully
Look, I don't have to worry about them. Like just looking nasty and crusty and crunchy and weird
I thought the L'Oreal one may have more of a tendency to look kind of thick because it's a tad bit more mattifying
So you have to be careful with that. You can't apply too many layers. Whereas a Maybelline one
It's just a tad bit more forgiving in my opinion. Yeah, I love both of these. I think they're absolutely amazing
I think the drugstore absolutely killed it
But if I were told that I could only choose one I would pick the Maybelline foundation. So now to part two, which is the
Ingredient comparison like a little breakdown of the ingredients. So I am gonna pop up a picture of the ingredients
I'm gonna keep it up until I get done talking about the little color coding system and stuff
So pause it screenshot it whatever you need to do. I'm gonna try to keep it up as long as possible
So yellow means that they appear in both formulas, so they may not be in the same order
So maybe different concentrations, but it is present in both formulas
You're gonna see a lot of yellow then green means that that ingredient is exclusive to that formula
So there is no difference whatsoever until seven ingredients in. To me a lot of the differences just look like
Wordplay like it just looks like semantics. For example, L'Oreal uses aluminum and I'm gonna butcher this
aluminum
Borosilicate and then Maybelline says calcium aluminum borosilicate and whenever you look it up
You only see calcium aluminum borosilicate. You don't see just plain aluminum borosilicate
So instead of the two formulas look in the exact same people easily figuring that out
It just seems like L'Oreal decided to use like a slightly different variation of the same thing the same word
I just want to make it appear different, you know, so just to kind of dumb it down. Okay, this is kind of my
Conclusion based on analyzing the ingredients overall just kind of seems like the Maybelline one has more ingredients that are more for light reflection
You know more of that glossy effect
Whereas L'Oreal one where it does have ingredients like that the L'Oreal foundation is overall more mattifying
So it's got more mattifying ingredients more for you know, absorbing excess oil L'Oreal foundation also has double humectant
So it's got hyaluronic acid as we've clearly talked about but it's also got glycerin
I was pretty surprised to see that Maybelline didn't have glycerin in there because I feel like that's in the majority of products and it's
Pretty cheap. It's you know, it's they put it in everything because it's so cheap
So I was surprised to see that there wasn't some kind of humectant in the Maybelline foundation
But I mean with or without it still works really well
So it's whatever and also again, this is based off my very minimal research and my very minimal
Vault of information about ingredients. It just seems like the L'Oreal foundation has
Overall higher quality ingredients in it, which kind of should be the case because it is more expensive
Then let's talk about the vitamin C in the Maybelline foundation
So this to me is a very clear-cut example of using the bare minimum
Just to be able to legally put a claim on the front. There is technically vitamin C in here
But it's in the form of ascorbyl glucoside
Which based my again minimal research is a less potent but also very stable form of vitamin C
I think it does turn into vitamin C in the skin, but they use it because it's suitable for all skin
Like there's very little irritation that's known to be had with it
Yeah, according to Paula's Choice
It says that it maintains many of the same benefits as pure vitamin C
It easily penetrates the skin, brightening and tone improving benefits enhanced by niacinamide
Excellent antioxidant to improve skin's environmental defenses. When properly formulated and absorbed into the skin
It breaks down to ascorbic acid also known as pure vitamin C
Once absorbed its breakdown to vitamin C is gradual creating what's known as a reservoir effect within the skin
This leads to longer lasting benefits
So it does kind of seem like you know
If you use it long-term it can improve the skin now whether or not that actually is the case with makeup
I'm still kind of skeptic about that. But this is something that makes me kind of like
Is the amount in here even worth it?
it says that ascorbic glucoside is typically used in concentrations of 2 to 5 percent when brightening dull skin and
fading the look of hyperpigmentation
So because it's so low on the totem pole in the ingredients list
It makes me wonder if it's actually even concentrated enough to do anything. Actually, you know what?
I just turned my camera off and into the video, but there's one more thing I want to do just to test
I like to know if products are buildable after they've been on all day long
Like if you were to put your makeup on at 6 o'clock in the morning to go to work
And then you get home and it's Friday night and you want to go out at like 8 or 9 o'clock at night
But you don't want to take off your makeup and start all over like can you reapply the foundation and it not look cakey, thick,
Heavy, weird. Let's apply some more of each foundation on both sides and let's see how they apply onto an already set base
So for the Maybelline foundation, I do want to try the shade 118 which is lighter
Not to mention if you are applying more foundation on top of existing makeup that's been on all day
You probably do want some more brightness because your face is probably a little dull. It may be a little lackluster
So you may you know want a lighter foundation. I don't know but here's the shade 118
It actually doesn't look that light like I can actually probably use that right now. That is
Hot dog, that is beautiful. Yeah full layer foundation, cheek products, concealer, setting powder, the whole shebang and it still goes on
Looking just as freaking magnificent as it did on bare skin. That is impressive. No streakage. No lines
Nothing. It does not look cakey. It does not look extra thick extra heavy. It just looks
Like I applied my foundation for the first time. That is amazing. Yeah, I'm gonna do the exact same thing on this side already
I've had to use more product to distribute across my face
Not a big deal, but it's just more product even looking at the back of my hand
Like the the L'Oreal foundation just looks just more mattifying
Like there's just more of a dryness to it versus the Maybelline one which just kept looking juicy and glossy and stuff
So I'm definitely seeing the mattifying ingredients like working in here
Like I do definitely see that this one has a little more dryness to it. The Maybelline one is just more forgiving
I mean, it's still pretty impressive like considering I'm putting this on to a set base that's been on all day long
It's not bad. I'm just
Comparatively speaking the Maybelline one looks better. It blended out better. It's just it's just overall better for me
Yeah, these are definitely foundations that you could reapply after a long wear day like reapply them to existing
Foundations and whatnot and it would still look good
I hope you guys enjoyed this video and I hope that it helped you in some way
