In this video I'll be exploring remote rivers in north eastern Michigan. These rivers contain healthy populations of native brook trout and I'll be chasing them with dry flies and my 3 weight fly rod. Sit back and enjoy as I navigate these remote two track roadways and find remarkable campsite right beside the rivers I'll be fishing.
Hello everybody. I'm in northeastern Michigan. What I absolutely love about this area, you can camp
anywhere. There's a maze of two tracks, state forest roads that you can explore and drive down
and there's river access everywhere. And my goal on this trip is to catch a brook trout on the
dry fly with my three weight and I got a good feeling about it. So thanks for watching. Let's
bought at the store and that is what's going to be for dinner tonight. So a nice cold beer, sausage,
potato salad, fire equals a pretty good night's sleep. They call me tater salad.
I'm a big fan of Ron White's stand-up comedy, especially I got thrown out of a bar.
Okay. So the plan for the rest of the day is I'm going to go set up a hammock down the river.
So a stretch that I want to fish that is supposed to be a great spot for brook trout. So the research
I've done is it's good fishing because it's hard to access. So what most people do is they, you know,
park their vehicle, walk down the river and then they got to walk back, right? So they can only go
so far. So my theory is I'm going to go set up a hammock where I think I'll be able to fish too
before it gets dark. And then I'm going to just crash in my hammock and then I'm going to fish
the rest of the river and be able to hopefully get back to Eddie here and do some great fishing
Well, I caught one nice brook trout. Well, that last brookie of the night
made it all worthwhile. Beautiful stretch of river, beautiful night.
And now sweaty, but dry. I'm just going to crawl in to my hammock and get some sleep.
Start fishing in the morning.
Can't lose those. OK, see you tomorrow.
Well, it's morning. That wasn't my best sleep ever. You could call that less than ideal.
A couple of things I forgot. Normally, this hammock is great, but it sways a lot. And
in the rush last night to get to bed, I forgot to hook up the bungees that kind of
stabilized. So it swings around a lot. So I did not have the best sleep. I'm going to
pack up, throw my waders on, get fishing. Probably not much fishing, just getting back to Eddie. But
you know what? Fishing last night was great. This was worth the effort. It was
worth the try. But I need a shower too. This synthetic shirt is pretty ripe. So
fly fishing rod than one that's not taped up with hockey tape?
First time I got that rod, I tripped in the river, snapped it and was able to tape it together.
Does the job.
Well, I thought the last spot was going to be tough to beat, but I think we beat it.
So the beauty of fly fishing is it's 6.30. You can have a nice dinner, be able to relax a little
bit. And then because it stays late until almost 10 o'clock, go fishing at 8 o'clock,
the bugs will be out and the fish will be rising. Hopefully. This is another tick that I pulled off
myself. I constantly check myself for ticks. They are everywhere around here for whatever reason.
Becoming more and more popular everywhere. But this guy was just crawling on my leg.
Well, that's going to wrap up the video. I hope you enjoyed it. This is a long way
off the beaten path to get to some brook trout streams. But for me, it was worth it.
Catching brook trout on a dry fly in the summer is for me really exciting. Even though they're
small, they really get my heart pumping when they chomp on a dry fly. And I always find it exciting.
The campsites here are absolutely amazing. There's nobody around.
And if you don't like brook trout fishing, there's really no reason to come back here
except for the solitude. It's hard to get to. It's a maze of two track roads,
and it's really hard to navigate. So I spent a lot of time, trial and error,
finding my way around here. But that's what I built Eddie for. And that's what I plan to do
for the rest of my days. Just explore remote wilderness and try to take you along with me
for the journey and adventure. So thanks for watching. We'll see you next one. Cheers.
