Though scriptural records and subsequent Western sources portray Sennacherib as a villain, written and archeological sources describe him as an expert engineer who built the ‘gardens of Nineveh’ (erroneously known as the Gardens of Babylon and attributed to Nebuchadnezzar), initiated magnificent aqueducts in Assyria that survive to this day, and referred to himself as ‘the protector of the weak.’
