武陵源位于中国中部湖南省西北部，1992年被列入《世界自然遗产》 。由张家界市的张家界国家森林公园、慈利县的索溪峪自然保护区、桑植县的天子山自然保护区和杨家界风景区组合而成。武陵源地处石英砂岩与石灰岩结合部，景区北部大片石灰岩喀斯特地貌，经亿万年河流变迁降位侵蚀溶解，形成了无数的溶洞、落水洞、天窗、群泉。武陵源景区的森林覆盖率达67%，是森林的王国；有400多种野生动物，是野生动物的乐园；有850多种木本植物，是植物的百花园；还有大量的溶洞、落水洞、天窗和群泉，是地质的博物馆。
武陵源被称为自然的迷宫、地质的博物馆、森林的王国、植物的百花园、野生动物的乐园。
Wulingyuan is located in the northwest of Hunan Province in central China, and was listed in the "World Natural Heritage" in 1992. Wulingyuan is located at the junction of quartz sandstone and limestone.
