Girls think that they can't do what boys can do sometimes.
They can do anything that boys can do.
She is of the generation of female skateboarders that really represent a big part of skateboarding.
She could redefine the whole sport.
It's the way we look at both surfing and skateboarding.
She's way ahead in all the really technical things.
I think she's going to draw lines and do the next level of everything.
And it's so cool at such a young age.
And I don't think anybody's telling her things that she can't do, which is really exciting.
My name is Sky Brown and I'm 10 and I like to skate and surf.
I'm at my favorite skate park, Venice.
The first time I skated here I was like 2 or 3.
Skating made me more brave and like more strong.
It's right next to the beach so when I skate I can hear the ocean.
It just makes me feel free and like I can do anything.
It's super fun skating with my brother.
Like we get to follow each other.
We both do different tricks.
Frontside air, backside air.
If you do snake run, super fun.
You can go super high and do these cool tricks on it.
I like it because it feels like I'm touching the sky.
We just love skating. It just makes me way happier when I skate with Ocean.
Well my normal day is wake up in the morning while it's still dark.
Let's go and get breakfast.
Yeah I like this cereal because it turns the milk into chocolate and I love chocolate milk.
After cereal we normally go surfing.
My name is Pat O'Connell.
I've actually been a pro surfer for probably 30 years.
I think the waves are going to be good.
Yeah.
They're going to be really big for you.
Okay team we got a little strategy out here. You ready?
Yep.
Think of it this way. The more waves we catch the better.
Okay we're going to have a lot of fun?
Yeah.
Alright let's go.
The ocean is always changing.
You know you may be out for an hour and only get 6 waves.
But as you get older it goes from 6 waves to 10 waves to 20 waves.
And that's where progression just kind of goes through the roof.
She'll go from riding waves that are this big to this big and bigger.
I feel like I'm in the open just going fast doing turns and just riding the waves.
The hardest trick was probably like a chop pop.
It took me a while.
I just love the feeling when you make it.
It just makes you feel so happy and you want to do it again.
The ocean is very natural for her.
When she surfs she knows how to read the waves.
That's an old soul thing.
Surfing with my brother is super fun.
They're like best friends. It's so cool.
It's just such a neat dynamic.
You're supposed to pick these up for me.
Okay okay I get it.
They never stop sort of harassing each other as brothers and sisters should do.
They're going to have these crazy fun experiences their whole life together.
What a bond.
What's your favorite thing about the surfboard that you have now?
Well I like it because it's super light and it's super fun.
That's the coolest thing.
Most kids are riding sort of hand-me-down boards.
People like Skye though.
She needs something that actually works for her that's more fit for her.
To actually get something that's really built for performance.
Where most kids are riding their dad's board that he's not riding anymore.
It makes such a difference in the water.
If you have a great board under your feet every condition every day is a little bit extra fun.
A lot of times when you have people who are crossing over sports to sport
the fact that she's able to go from surfing to skating and back
will always keep this interaction really interesting.
Something that you don't often see in younger skaters or smaller skaters
she has sort of a pretty distinctive style in the way she skated.
Like you see a lot of younger people and their boards flipping around
and they're doing technically what they want to do
but it doesn't necessarily look right.
With Skye it was interesting because from very early on she looks good on her board basically.
My name is Bud Boyle.
I've been here at Dwindle now since 2005.
Skateboarding is an individual thing but it's also being part of a group
and I think that it's always fun.
You're not trying to necessarily one-up each other
but you're there to push each other to everyone's individual limits.
The hardest trick I did was probably jumping off a 12th stair.
I did get some pretty bad plans.
I got some bruises.
That's not going to stop me.
I'm just going to keep going and get that trick
and when I'm done I can be like, yes!
You just got to try hard, put yourself out there, have fun and just get that trick.
I feel like a healthy diet is really important
so that you can have a lot of energy.
I like milk because it tastes really good
and it keeps you healthy and strong.
I've always been drinking milk since I was a baby.
I like milk.
So Skye rides for almost.
We do have a board that we've made in conjunction with her.
It's supporting a really good cause,
a non-profit organisation called Skaterstan.
They're doing really meaningful things for youth around the world
and specifically a lot of young women who don't have opportunities
for education or access to a safe, free space.
And I encourage anyone to go and do your research on Skaterstan.
Please, can I hit the button now?
Sure.
We've raised over $16,000 just with the first drop of boards.
And that's done?
That's done.
It's warm.
Girls can do anything that boys can do
and I don't get much chances to skate with girls
and when I skate with girls I just like to have fun.
I don't know what the stats are, I don't know if it's 10% or 20% or 30%
of the active skateboarders around the world are women
but the number's definitely getting up there now.
When you used to see crews of guys around, now you see just crews of people.
I want to be like the best at skating and surfing.
The most important bit is just to have fun and try my best.
Thanks for watching.
