Gardens, stables, antique paintings--less than an hour from Paris, in the Northern France region, the Château de Chantilly, run by the Institut de France. This château is a jewel of French heritage imagined by Henri d'Orléans, son of the last French king, Louis-Philippe, a great collector of masterpieces to be discovered in the many rooms, apartments, galleries and nooks and crannies of the château.
The visit that follows, which is unusual to say the least, takes us into two cabinets with exotic decorations: "La petite et la grande singerie" painted by Christophe Huet, showing monkeys imitating the behavior of 18th-century aristocrats. This curious work representes an immersion into the daily life of the elites of the time, and a way of approaching the place of humor in art as well as a testament to the trend of "exotiscm" of the time. #ExploreFrance
