The Southeast Texas tennis community rallied together to support a family in need.
A tremendous act of service took over the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Courts today as
the 409's tennis community rallied together in hopes of easing one family's worries during
a time of hardship.
The Foltz family consists of Josh and Devin Foltz and their three children.
Two of their children, Hadley and Holland, were diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis.
This is when the body's immune system attacks the brain and causes inflammation.
Looking for answers and solutions, the family has traveled to hospitals across the country
and those expenses have added up.
The amount of people that showed up today really, it surprised me so much.
You know, at first I was kind of like, oh, we might not get that many people, but after
so many people, we just, the entries kept flooding in.
And to help with those expenses, the community came together for the Team Foltz Benefit Tennis
Tournament.
The Southeast Texas Tennis Association sponsored the courts at the tennis center and all prizes
and supplies were donated to help the cause.
Over 100 people showed up to participate and over $2,000 were raised.
Former 12 News reporter and producer Dominique Leahy showed her there and her family helped
organize the event and she says every contribution will make a big impact.
We just wanted to do our very best to be able to raise money to help them with all the certain
funds that they need.
You know, this isn't going to solve the problem, but we're looking for a way to alleviate the
stress of having money, money issues.
So we just wanted to help them in a way that, it's small, but it means a lot and it could
have a really big impact on their family.
I think that we have a good community out here.
It's good to be able to come together and do this for a good cause.
It is hot, but we're powering through.
It's a good cause and it's just amazing to be a part of this.
