What is Cham Dance? Cham dance is a lively mask dance and masquerade, a practice associated with Mahayana Buddhism. The word Cham itself means Dance in the Tibetan language. It is a dance more than 1300 years old also known as a mask dance with religious significance. It is performed by monks during festivals and special events of monasteries located mainly in the Himalayas to transmute evil for the benefit of the whole world and for the greater good of the world. mankind. I witnessed this dance during the Gutor Festival at Dorje Drak Monastery in Shimla. I quite often go to this monastery in Shimla, can proudly say "It's my second home in Shimla" :)
