Belfast Castle sits on the slopes of Cave Hill County Park, just 10 minutes outside the Northern Ireland city of Belfast. It was built to replace the original 12th century castle, destroyed by fire in 1708, but today's castle dates from 1870. Belfast Castle was built entirely from sandstone, and the impressive stone turrets and staircases are surrounded by peaceful gardens which overlook the Belfast Lock and the city of Belfast below.
