Join us, Daphne and Ian, as we embark on our new chateau renovation projects! This week, we lay the tile in our bathroom just in time for Benoit and Vincent to return and help us install our first set of windows on the Hunter's Lodge! We get a new partnership for our wedding venue and they let us take a rental car for a test drive. Vincent brings his professional metal detector so we can try it our around the chateau and in the deepest point of our medieval dungeon!
Our "beau chateau" (The 500-year-old, Chateau De Lesigny), is located near Paris, France. Most of the structures around the chateau domain need a full restoration, so we are investing everything we have into making the property thrive! We are learning more about french culture and developing new skills along the way!
As a French/American UC Berkeley graduate in Agriculture (Daphne), and a U.S. Air Force Tactical Response Force Veteran/ Kinesiologist (Ian), we share a love for challenges and adventure. We have a long road ahead of us and we are excited to share the experience with you!
You can support our renovation projects by joining our Patreon Community, where you can also gain access to exclusive videos and behind the scene access with Daphne and Ian! All patron funding is used to renovate this historical French Chateau. Every patron is paramount to our chateau renovations and we thank you all tremendously!

This week, Benoit and Vincent help us install new windows.
We get to test drive a car for our wedding clients.
And we find several mantiques around the chateau with a metal detector.
Since we had to stop our floor tiling process because Benoit came to put in that,
now we can finally finish it.
And we just re-cut these boards here and everything fits.
So we just gotta grout.
Yep, no.
Thinset.
Thinset, then tile, then grout.
I don't know the difference, but...
It's okay, I'll show it.
Yeah.
I'm gonna use these gloves, but they were clearly made for a man.
Those are...
You can wear these ones.
You look like Gaston.
Na na na, na na na!
Oopa!
How many times am I gonna hit my head on that?
Ow!
Does this count towards getting that summer bod?
Uh, if by summer bod you mean my knees don't work anymore, then yes.
Here's the last piece.
The last piece.
Now it just needs to fit.
Oh my god.
Kind of, just enough.
Well, I think we basically just need to clean it up a little bit,
and then we're done for today.
I don't like the sound of that.
Yeah?
I think we're gonna sleep really well tonight.
Valentin is showing us one of these old cars,
because we're actually looking at doing a partnership for the weddings,
where we'll be renting old cars for the brides and grooms who come by.
And this car in particular may have my heart,
and he's gonna show us how it works,
and we're gonna get to take it for a little ride.
Do you want to show me first, and then...
Perfect!
You never know.
So this is where you have your controls.
Your windshield wipers are all on the left.
They're so tiny!
It's not very big.
You have this one, and you have your indicators like normal cars here.
Okay.
And then we can do what we did earlier, and lift the hood.
And then when you pull it back, it pops back up directly.
Okay, cool!
Speed bump! Speed bump!
What do you think?
I love this car so much!
Are the clients gonna like it?
I think they'll really like it.
But I don't know if I can share with them.
We finally received our first set of windows for the Hunter's Lodge,
so Benoit and Vincent have returned to install them.
She's not gonna take this one off!
Is this made of tile?
We had to put it on the...
Okay.
Your pole that was here, it almost didn't hold.
What do we do?
We drilled it, so you see, we brought it closer,
and we screwed it.
We brought it closer, and now we're gonna be able to do some clean up.
And now we can do the walk that's gonna go all the way here.
I think it needs to go in a little more than that.
And can we do rounded steps?
Yes, of course.
Do you want to make them turn?
Just a little...
Like a podium?
Yes.
Okay.
But no, it's made in Italy!
Made in France!
MBC, made in France!
Yes!
Okay, thank you!
Can you sit down, please?
We have a question to ask you.
Sit down?
Yes, sit down.
Oh, yes.
Am I on time out or something?
Yes.
Why am I facing the wall?
No, we're doing a test of the balcony outside.
And I wanted to make sure
that there's enough space on the side
for a guy to come sit
and be comfortable
at the breakfast table
on the balcony, outside the window.
You're here?
Look!
Titi!
Can you measure
the wood
to the corner of the house?
We're excited to have Benoit
build our staircase and terrace,
but we still need to finalize this design.
Last week, Vincent told us
about his metal-detecting hobby,
and he offered to show us how to use it around the château.
Ian was very excited.
And up!
Alright, so,
we're going to see what we can find.
Cool. And Arkéa's going to join.
Good girl.
OK, is there metal?
The most important thing
is to detect rats from the ground.
Not like this.
Yes.
No, you have to detect like this.
There, see?
I'll be sure to tell Daphne
that we're cleaning up a lot of trash.
Ah, buddy!
Ah, yes.
It's a brass bracelet.
A child's bracelet.
Ah, yes.
It's cute.
Ah, wait.
It's...
aluminum.
I found my first piece of trash.
Cool.
We're de-polluting.
Wait.
Whoops.
OK.
So far, I've found...
a piece of trash.
Yes.
Wow, what a treasure.
Thank you.
If you want, it's yours.
We'll go get him.
There's nothing.
OK, yeah, he's a little better than I am.
And your target is here.
OK.
Not here.
OK, so you keep sweeping left and right.
Oh la la, oh la la.
Meow, meow!
Are you ready to lose your legs?
Come here.
OK.
I've been doing this for 10 years.
Come here.
No, no, no.
Yes, but it would be a piece.
Coin!
What did you find?
A 5-cent Napoleon coin.
Meow!
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8...
A 10-franc coin.
1952.
It's a Cupronicol.
Then...
5-cent Napoleon.
1855.
10-cent Napoleon.
So the date is...
I don't know.
A religious medal
for the Virgin Mary.
After finding several antiques
in the front lawn,
we decided to take the metal detector
deep below the chateau
to the lowest point of the dungeon
where the medieval fortress
meets the soil.
It's a coin.
A coin?
Yes.
Look at the light.
It's huge.
Do you see the color?
It's never been in the soil.
The soil is acidic, you see?
When I find coins,
they're not this color.
It's a coin again.
So cool.
Wait, there are more.
Hey!
No, it's not a knife.
It's a knife.
It's made of wood.
For wine?
Yes, or beer.
It's a tap.
We also have this tunnel,
but maybe we'll do that next time.
Okay.
We found a few old coins
in the dungeon
and an old button.
We also found this little spout thing.
It was probably used
for mead or beer.
After we cleaned it off,
we realized there was a little face on it,
which is really cool.
But Benoit definitely found
the coolest thing,
and that was just in our parking lot.
It's this old pocket watch,
but it doesn't have a date on it,
so it may have also been a movie prop.
We only looked in a few small spaces
on the whole domain,
so we're probably going to be
finding more things soon here
because that was a lot of fun.
Thank you for watching.

Oh, wow.
Oh, my God.
It was 10 centimeters.
A little watch.
It's going to be hot all day.
I'm the best.
