Manchester United agree deal with Chelsea to sign Mason Mount

Mark McAdam has just rushed into the studio with breaking news from Manchester United. Yes, some significant breaking news here and it concerns that man we've been speaking about him throughout the course of the last 15 days or so with regards to a transfer from Chelsea to Manchester United and Manchester United's third offer that was rejected initially but remained on the table for Chelsea has been accepted. The offer is worth £55 million with £5 million in additional add-ons and it's our understanding now that Mason Mounts is free to discuss personal terms which we're expecting not to be a problem and of course travel to Manchester for his medical to put the finishing touches towards the deal. Our information also suggests that he will sign a five-year contract with the option of a further year and his 18-year stay at Chelsea he joined as a youngster has now come to an end it was Frank Lampard that gave him his debut in August 2019 after he worked his way through the academy looked to be a big part of the future of Chelsea at one stage got into the England setup as well but his days at the bridge are now at an end he had one year left on his current Chelsea contract he'd indicated to the club that he wouldn't be willing to sign a new one he had his heart set on going to Manchester United it seemed like that would happen but the negotiations took some time but finally in the last few moments we've had it confirmed Manchester United have had their offer accepted by Chelsea and Mason Mounts is heading to Old Trafford and massive relief for Manchester United fans because we know that a lot of them thought this was maybe going to drag on and on and give them more uncertainty in a very uncertain summer well historically particularly in summer windows Manchester United have always been seen as a club that will pay perhaps over the odds for players because they would always go and try and get the players they wanted whereas this occasion is slightly different they put their offer in they've stood firm and they've said to Chelsea that's our offer take it or leave it we'll leave it on the table and what's happened over the course of the last couple of days Chelsea have come back to Manchester United and said okay we will accept that offer so you'd look at this someone with huge potential at just 24 years old an England international as we say someone that has been a big player for Chelsea over the last few seasons now traveling to a rival as well Manchester United very much a rival when it comes to the top four in the Premier League and they're getting a player who has bags of potential ahead of him at a great age for what would be seen to be a very good price when you look at Mason Mount and the qualities he has so yeah really exciting news as far as Manchester United fans are concerned but this won't stop we know that Eric Ten Hag is desperate to try and add a striker to their ranks as well there's been talks of a defensive midfielder and a right-sided centre-back so you get the feeling this could be the first of a few signings at the Theatre of Dreams this summer and some outgoings as well we think yes there'll be a number of outgoings as well a little bit of speculation about two or three players at Manchester United and of course we'll keep you across them as we get the information but this is the one that's dropped in the last few moments and what a deal this could be for Manchester United fans.
