Enjoy life with surprises This is Mako
This video I really hesitated about whether to post it or not
I had an experience that could be
called a life-changing one and I think
that people who are struggling like me might find some relief from it
I've decided to go ahead and talk about it It's quite a sensitive
topic I suppose Some people might
even wonder what I'm talking about
Then I think this video itself
won't get that much attention
but I'd be happy if some people watch it and take action
In short what I want to say this time is that I'm usually very
forgetful careless and impulsive and
I think I might be a bit like ADHD
People who have long been troubled by
this issue are very early to seek help
from mental clinics general medicine
or psychiatry departments at hospitals
I hope you have the option of getting a prescription
Not just for yourself but for those around you too
If there are people like that
I would like them to consider it as one of the options
Relying on medication should be a last resort and instead one's
own efforts habits and environment should be addressed first
I have lived my life that way until my 30s
I think I should put in
the effort myself but I still think that things
like habits and environment
have their limits and I've always said in my
videos that I've been like someone with ADHD
It ends up sounding like people are
using the excuse of saying "maybe I have
ADHD" to justify not keeping time
forgetting things and
not listening to others
Doesn't it feel a bit unpleasant
That's why I usually don't bring up the topic myself
What I'm about to say is purely factual
I think I'll talk about what my childhood and teenage years were like
I remember first getting a
letter from the school addressed
to the parents which I think was a PTA authorization form
I had to hand it over to my parents but
for some reason it would disappear every
time and the teacher would call the parents
if I didn't present the power of attorney
That's why my mother always gets calls from the teacher
Because of that I get really angry
From my mother
She says you should be more reasonable
I tell her I haven't received any such thing
You can't say you didn't
receive it because all the
other students did get it and about a month later
I found one that got all messed up over there
I took it
This kept happening all the time
I'm not trying to get in trouble but
I think I' ll be more careful next time but for some reason it disappears every time I'm told it's not
just the PTA authorization form that disappears
This also shocked me but I got a cavity
and I tried to go by bike to the nearby
clinic it's a story
about a primary school
student and I got money from my mother
I didn't have any small change so I got a 10 000 yen
bill and was told very clearly
to bring back the change
I was on my way out of the house and had just gotten
on my bicycle when I realized I had lost 10 000 yen and
couldn't remember where I had put it and I
completely lost the money there and it still hasn't been found
I got really scolded
I also cried I didn't want to cry but I played basketball all through elementary
middle and high school and for some
reason I got really yelled at by the coach
You're not paying attention so don't space
out You never listen when I'm talking
This is what I've been told every time in elementary middle and high school
I wasn't looking at the coach's eyes when were all gathered
I got really angry at that
It always gets noticed every time
Because our eyes didn't meet
Hey Makko if you're going to start you can go home
I was told this every time I don't really want to hear it
I get pretty nervous every time we gather
Even so I still get scolded In school tests
mock exams or entrance exams I make a lot of
careless mistakes At that time I probably understood
that it was due to my insufficient studying
I was quite aware of it I can solve difficult and big questions but Chi-chan
makes a lot of mistakes in simple problems
like really simple calculation errors
This could just be that I'm not practicing enough to
solve the problems of course but from my own awareness I seem to have a lot
of careless mistakes
it's just carelessness
That's so careless of me My friend from middle school high school
and university said that I'm really
a natural which really annoyed me
I think about things very
deeply and I'm not naive I
didn't want to be seen as naive so I tried to
avoid being careless or thoughtless but it's hard to get rid of it Even after becoming a university student
I really felt it when I was working
part-time I couldn't do any of the
convenience store internet café or cafe
jobs properly I couldn't remember anything
Even if I remember I make a lot of careless mistakes I always forget when taking orders at
the cafe I got really yelled at
by a female high school student colleague
I didn't know anything about ADHD
until my early 20s I just thought
I was someone who was really
forgetful and this really isn't good
I tend to get really heated up in arguments and get
worked up easily and when I get angry I often
use strong words so of course I don't want to do
that and have been trying to change it for a long time
The one thing that never gets fixed is keeping time I'm always ten
or fifteen minutes late That's never
changed since elementary school
My mother also probably said something like "you should definitely
go with plenty of time" but it's not fixed yet and I get all sorts of comments like "you don't
seem to want to fix it " but that's not the case at all
I started to realize around the
time I turned 25 that maybe I was
one of those people that are
often talked about as having ADHD
It wasn't that severe in terms
of symptoms and I could still
go to university and I could
basically manage my daily life
I've become increasingly aware that
I'm often careless and impulsive and
that I don't keep to time especially as I've reached my late twenties
This is one of the reasons I didn't go to the hospital but I was able to cover
it quite well with habits and systems For example I'
ve lost my wallet and phone four or five times
I've probably lost my house key more times than I can count
I've probably called the key hundred lamp thing more times than I can count
From experiences like that during university days
I always carry the same bag never
switch bags and always put my valuables
in the same place Then around the
people around me I
can't do this anymore
Cleanly acknowledged he said to his friend "I really tend to forget so I'll make
sure to check multiple
times in advance sorry " he said He no longer loses his keys anymore Since he was a second-year university student
I never locked the house even once Now that we've
introduced electronic locks we make sure to lock
it properly Back then there was nothing to be stolen so I never bought
anything that could be lost
So I don't have a wallet either and I don't
wear an Apple Watch because I might lose it and
I've been using the Oura Ring for a long time but I recently lost it and I didn 't
feel any sadness at all
That's how it is you
know I definitely
lose my glasses too I don't buy expensive glasses the glasses I use are just
for show things like that
I only buy the cheapest things on Amazon This is something I've been working on
for many years Understanding my own weaknesses
And creating habits and systems
So I can basically manage my life
I have a sense that I'm different from others
and I'm aware that this is a big weakness that can cause trouble for others but I've
always thought it was
also my greatest strength
For example I was bad at listening to classes because I
couldn't listen to people for long I didn't understand
what the teacher was saying during class and then
there were parts I couldn't understand along the way
Even if there was just one thing it would always bother me
I couldn't hear a word the teacher was saying after that
I had already thought that the class was impossible
since I was around elementary school age
So I was reading the textbook the whole time during class
I was solving problems
Because I couldn't understand even when I listened So I often got angry at that
Listen to the class instead of solving problems
on your own Even if you listen you still
don't understand I can't maintain my
concentration It's impossible to do group classes
I've never been to a tutoring school like that everything was one
-on-one instruction but
because I had a discomfort with such classes
they didn't do any lessons or lectures at all
What if we created a programming school
where students could ask questions
That's how Tech Camp was born As far as
I know in the form of "ask me anything "
There were no schools that could help you learn
programming all at once back
then but now there are schools
that follow that style It's because I have a bit of
a bias so I have a different perspective from others
I think that by doing this you can achieve
something but if you try
to treat and cure it you
end up going to the hospital and then you lose
your strength but I can still manage my life
I had been avoiding going to the hospital
I've always
avoided getting diagnosed with
ADHD until I was over 30 but recently I've started taking medication Those of you who
have been watching this channel all along
I think you know but I stepped down as president of the company I started and now
I'm starting a new company again and I'
m running it as my own personal company
The founders of the company regularly talk with the
executives and have reached the point where they provide
support and they are still working on
new businesses and various initiatives including YouTube activities
The rest is about sharing inside
stories and doing it at the same
time but there's a lot to do
especially the cost per YouTube channel
The cost per street has increased significantly compared to a few years
ago and we no longer have
the abundant resources we once had
I felt like my head was really tired
I also started having insomnia
So I thought maybe I should go to the hospital once
It started with getting sleeping pills but I thought the sleeping pills and
the medicine were really effective and
it turns out habits are also important
I thought that when all else fails choosing medicine is quite a viable option and that made me feel a
bit less resistant to the idea of medicine
There are quite a few people around me who struggle with ADHD but they told
me that they change quite a bit with
medication and they recommended it to me
I'm not saying you absolutely have to drink it but they said "
Why don't you try it once " and
I got medicine from the hospital
If I explained everything that I just said from my elementary school
days they would say I'm perfectly
diagnosed with ADHD and I thought after starting the
medication I wish I had started taking it sooner my life has
really changed it's like I'm finally
doing things properly for the first time
Oh there was a moment when I thought "Hey this view
is different from what I've seen before " and another moment when
I thought "This feeling in my head is completely different " and I was moved at that time
Then there was this feeling of regret you know but it
's pointless to talk about the past I really thought I
should have drunk it sooner the first thing that was
really good was being able to
concentrate completely on work
My productivity has really doubled In my mind
whenever I do computer
work my attention keeps
getting distracted and I feel like my brain is really tired This has been
going on for a long time
That's gone now From
the friends Maruko-san
has amazing concentration
you know It's always
been amazing but
something's different this time I feel it too Then
there's no request
We used to have deep discussions and meetings and then felt really
exhausted mentally but now despite
being this age I do manage to control it
I felt really tired that's why I don't
really ask others for
anything when I take
the medicine I become more gentle I am
usually kind when I
start taking the medicine
I was afraid that my strengths would
disappear but it didn'
t happen at all No this
really shows how different the effects of
the medication can be from person to person
I would like you to carefully listen to the doctor's advice and make a judgment based on
that just to clarify in my case
in terms of my personal experience
it felt like all the parts that were beyond repair had completely disappeared
in any case life has become much easier to live
Not only me but there are a lot of people around me
who have been saved
by medicine Of course everyone takes
it differently some only on weekdays
I've been prescribed a smaller amount than
usual but everyone has various patterns but
they say there's a big difference between taking
it and not taking it which is natural
The risks of taking AD Choo medication There are
side effects Please thoroughly
research and understand
before taking it Some people may not tolerate it well especially children
so you should be careful
I think it's up to the parent's judgment but there are
doctors who say it's better
not to take this AD medication
There are things where doctors' opinions differ but from my
personal experience it's better
to have at least some options
I really think it's worth giving it a try
once it takes that kind of time in life
I sometimes think I should have gone to the hospital sooner
But if the question is whether it would have been better to keep taking the medicine since my teens
that's a pretty complicated issue
I've always found it hard to do things that people take
for granted I thought that if I lived the same way
as normal people it would definitely not work out so I thought
I had to fight in a different way than normal people
I've been thinking since university that I wouldn't be able to show
my value in this society and that's
why I'm talking to you all here now
That's why I ended up choosing
to start a business and also
started YouTube but honestly I think I was a bit too lucky
I'm just lucky I'm able to do this now but I definitely considered the regular path of getting a
job and I was really torn between starting a
business or getting a job until the very last moment
Probably I would have failed to do things that are
considered normal when employed and caused a lot
of trouble for customers and colleagues and I probably would have dropped out with a high probability
But if someone quite similar
to me were
working at a regular company I think it would be really tough
Being in an environment where you have to process a lot of information
at the same time can really stress the brain and lead to more mistakes
I would like to recommend considering going to the hospital as an option for
such people As I mentioned at the
beginning ADHD is not just about medication
Habits and other issues are resolved through various
approaches The absolute thing
you must not do is to arrive late
I can't keep time because I have ADHD
That's not acceptable
Rules are rules and promises are promises
It doesn't matter if that person is bad at keeping time
So I can't use it as an excuse but
I really feel a big gap between
people who can easily keep time and
not forget things and those who can't
I think we don't really understand each other
very well here I've really wanted to change
that But I just can't seem to I guess the difficulty level really varies from person to person
You might think why someone can't do something
like this but really they can't do it it's better to have some understanding that there are people like
that because that might
better for the person I think
I wanted to mention that in this video it's
ultimately my own issue so I'll cover it with
my own habits and
environment that's the first
choice and recently people around me have been
Understanding of such congenital developmental
disorders has improved so we shouldn 't use that
as an excuse but we should clearly state that we are not good at it
It's more convincing to get a proper diagnosis in order to say that and I would
like you to have the option of taking medication when you get the diagnosis
This video is not recommending that people
with ADHD take medication but rather that it's a
video encouraging you to consider it as one of the options and think about it carefully
Since symptoms and environments vary from
person to person I hope you will study properly
and make your own decisions Watching this video oh I look like the president Maiko
Or if there are people around you who are similar to you
I would be happy if someone could realize that
taking medication is also an option
See you in the next video
