Lightning McQueen and Mater go back in time, and Mater tries to sneak his relative home, but he doesn't know about the space time continuum..you can't touch anything in the past, and when Lightning gets back to Radiator Springs, Mater is not there, and no one has even heard of him ! Lightning goes back and finds him playing with his dinosaur friend. This time when they go back home Mater leaves his cousin behind.
