(Bundesliga 2022/2023): Highlights Bochum - Leverkusen

Safety wasn't totally in Bochum's hands coming into matchday 34 starting in the relegation playoff place. A win and results elsewhere going their way and survival will be assured on a tense afternoon. Bayer Leverkusen had eyes on finishing sixth in European football next season. They weren't helped though with Amina Adli literally seeing red and sent off for kicking out at Dominique Heinz. In the drama of it all originally Adli received a yellow card but that was overturned and Leverkusen receiving their seventh red card this season, Adli his second. So advantage Bochum who then took full advantage by scoring the opening goal on 19 minutes. Takuma Asano's cross was met by a flying Philipp Furster to send the place wild. This was exactly what was needed from Bochum. So dangerous from corners this season then showed why when a Kevin Stoker cross was finished by Asano. Some day for the Japanese with an assist and now a goal. His third of the season and the most important of them all. The Asano effect having Bochum dreaming of safety so far so good at the halfway stage as Leverkusen's European hopes were crumbling around them. In the second half he was much better from Alonso's side so much so that they struck the frame at the Bochum goal. Good to see Jeremy Primponk a combination with Wirtz very nearly bringing them back into the game but with four minutes remaining Bochum went to the other end and got their third goal through Kevin Stoker's sensational finish. A man who has suffered relegation in his career before about to celebrate survival and doing so in style. Thomas Ledge steering Bochum to victory. Tears of joy as survival assured for another season right at the end of a tense and dramatic final day.
