Some towns can be surprisingly surprising.
Three unusual palaces,
two city gates,
a nice town hall
and extremely charming ponds.
We invite you to the Grodki commune.
The palace in Kopice is undoubtedly a gem of the Opolskie region.
It is a great pity that it is a ruin today,
because it could have been avoided.
The Szafgoc family's palace survived World War II in an almost undamaged state,
but the authorities of the previous regime
assigned its rooms to a farmstead.
In 1956, it was noticed
that the bags with grain disappeared faster
than it did from the papers,
so control was taken.
Soon, to cover up the traces,
the Kopice Palace was engulfed by smoke.
It was barely set on fire and in several places at once.
The roof and ceilings were extinguished,
and the destruction was supplemented by looting and the loss of time.
However, there is hope for reconstruction,
because the palace was purchased by the owner of another facility in the Opolskie region,
the Żyrowa Palace,
which is currently being renovated.
Let's hope that this will happen here too,
although the legal situation is a bit more complicated here.
Walking along an extremely charming pond
flowing around the palace,
I will tell you an amazing story about the Silesian Kopciuszko.
It's about Joanna Gryzik.
She was born into a poor Silesian family,
and in addition, her mother quickly became a widow
and when she remarried, actually for the third time,
she had to give her older daughter,
then a four-year-old Joasia,
under the care of another woman,
who was the mistress of Karol Goduli,
an extremely rich Silesian entrepreneur.
This old, stingy rich man
liked the small and open Joasia so much
that after two years of living together,
the day before his death,
he transferred all his property to her.
Unfortunately, the Silesian family could not agree with this
and apparently even set their sights on Joasia's life.
She, hidden in the monastery,
grew into an extremely intelligent and beautiful,
and additionally rich woman.
She bought the nobility
and nothing was in the way
to marry the beloved count Hans Ulrich Schafgott.
They then bought the Kopitsky Palace.
Until her death, she managed and multiplied the inherited property.
Before we visit the other two palaces,
let's take a look at Grotkow,
because it is a charming historical town.
A beautiful town hall with a tower commemorating the 16th century
In Grotkow, Józef Elsner was born,
a composer who taught Chopin himself.
Beautiful city gates have been preserved here,
Ziębicka and Lewińska.
Now they are waiting to be renovated.
The local city walls were built back in the 13th century.
The medieval birthplace also has a temple
called St. Michael the Archangel.
It is worth going inside,
because numerous gothic details have been preserved,
such as the portal to Christ from the 13th century.
The baroque altar is by Michał Kostler from Niemodlina.
In addition, there is a beautiful castle in Niemodlina.
Time for the Sulisław Palace.
It was supposedly built on a medieval castle
associated with Templars,
but it is difficult to find evidence for this.
In the 19th century, it was bought by the aforementioned Joanna
for her son Hans Karl Schafkotz.
The family expanded it to its current shape.
Today it is a pleasure to look at,
because it was saved from destruction
and was designated a restaurant and a luxury hotel.
Not far away,
we looked at an extremely charming pond,
carved with a walking tomb.
There is a sandy beach here,
roof umbrellas
and the so-called palace on the water,
i.e. a bar,
in which pizza is supposedly served during the season.
The last monument we will visit today
is the Wędrzejów Palace.
This one, or rather the castle once standing here,
was supposedly part of the Krzyżacki Order.
The Schafkotz family is also associated with it,
because the Count Harry,
the husband of Eleonora Schafkotz,
appointed him after World War II
to the House of Social Assistance.
And so it is today.
Wonderful and invaluable are the monuments of the Opole region.
Let's hope they will find all the worthy guardians.
Meanwhile, do not forget about the thumbs up and subscription.
