Dodgers vs. Rays Game Highlights (5/26/23) | MLB Highlights

This is the first meeting between Tampa Bay and L.A. since the 2020 World Series. Good to see Jake McGee. Unofficially retiring a rake throughout the ceremonial first pitch. The sticky stuff. Well, Rays opener, Jalen Beeks. Beeks is one and two with a 4.68 earned run average. His former teammate, Mookie Betts, is getting set to step in. Ball four, leadoff walk for Betts. And the Dodgers have the first man aboard. Freddie Freeman, a 14-game hitting streak. Beaks' average of .325 goes after the first pitch. And it gets over the head of Raley. And Mookie had to hold up, but he gets to third base anyway. Oh, it's a base hit, but that was clearly misplayed. Pretty poor route. Not one step was really at full speed. Some runners at the corners for Will Smith. Swung out of the ground ball right side. A base hit. Dodgers strike first as Mookie comes into score. And Will Smith, a good piece of hitting with an opposite field single. Dodgers up one nothing. One ball right side. Lyle's gonna have to go to first. He gets the out there and the runners move up. Freeman to third and Will Smith now at second base. And a popper. Short center. Here comes Seery. And that ball's gonna be caught by Franco. Swing and a miss. Vargas out on strikes and a good job by Beeks. Noah Syndergaard is slated to start for the Dodgers in the series opener this evening. His running is one in three with an ERA of 5.88. And they have a chance to run again tonight. He gets Noah Syndergaard. Yandy Diaz has been on base in 19 straights. That's a liner into right center. Extra bases coming for Yandy Diaz. He's on his way to second with his tenth double of the year. This one opens the Rays half of inning one. So the Rays get the tying run at second right away. And now Wanda Franco's. Little tap right side. Syndergaard can't get to the ball. And he just does get to the bag. And that was very close. Looks like the Rays are gonna challenge. They're gonna win this challenge. It certainly looked like Franco. Let's see that front foot. He goes to the front of the bag. He's there. After review, the call on the field is overturned. The runner is safe. First and third, Brandon Lau stepping in. There goes the runner. And a ground ball at second base. Brown's gonna score. The only place to first as Diaz crosses the plate. One, one. Get up! Miguel Rojas will snatch out number two. The runner at second, Franco, with two down for Josh Lowe. He lines it into center. That's a base hit. Franco rounding third. Throw's gonna be up the line. And the Rays take the lead. Josh Lowe wasting no time. Single toe Wanda Franco. And it's two to one Rays. First two men are on here. We're at the bottom of the second inning. Here's Jose Seri. Ground ball through the hole on the left side. Bethencourt's gonna be stopped. The bases are loaded. And here's John D. Diaz. And a high chop down to third. They're gonna go to first. A look to second. But no time there. The run scores. Bethencourt crosses the plate. The Rays now lead three to one. Boy, that chopper kind of limits Muncy's options. And you're right. He was looking. And the infield comes in with second and third for Wanda Franco. Here's Franco hitting a high shot back into deep right center. That's gonna stand apart. Caught by Wilkie Betts on the track. A tag at third. Raley will score. Back to back walks to start the top of the third inning. J.D. Martinez now. J.D. lifts the first pitch into left field. Dino Ebel is gonna send Freddy. There won't be a play. The Dodgers within two. Dodgers get a run back on an RBI-based hit for J.D. Martinez. Two stolen bases for Wolves. A 3-0 count on Bethencourt. And a ground ball. That's gonna be a base hit. Wolves scores. Bethencourt swinging 3-0. Picks up the fifth run of the night for the Rays. Huge slip. Raley. Peralta will snag it in left. It's a difficult play off a left-handed bat. And that'll bring up the top of the order in Yanni Diaz. High shot. Back into left. Toward the corner. Peralta on the move. That ball is gone. Home run Yanni Diaz. Homer number 12 in the Rays. Now up 6-2. He's been doing that an awful lot here this season. 2-1 is the count. And Syndergaard steps back, kicks, fires. Ball is hit well to left field. Going back after it Taylor. Taylor to the corner, to the track, to the wall. He leaps and he makes a catch. Oh what a catch by Chris Taylor. Absolutely incredible. Leaping up against the wall. Chris Taylor robbing Luke Raley with this spectacular defensive play. It's hit in 15 straight. Ground ball, left side. Backhanded by Franco. He throws across his body and gets Freeman. And that is an outstanding play. And boy, the Rays defense has been spectacular tonight on the infield. One out and one on. And here's Brandon Lau. Hot shot. That's going to be off Freeman Smith. Into right field. Here comes Franco. He will score an RBI for Brandon Lau. His second run batted in of the night. And the Rays make it 7-2. Oh and Rosarena hit by the pitch. Yeah, he's not real thrilled about getting hit. And the Rays have two on now in the 7th. Up 7-2. It's going to be Harold Ramirez to pinch hit here. It swung on and lifted deep to left field toward the corner. Back after it, Taylor. He leaps up against the wall and makes the catch. And they double the runner Lau off. Lau thought it was gone or at least off the wall. Boy, right in the same spot, he made a tremendous catch earlier. He makes a wonderful catch there. Down to second base goes Vargas. Chris Taylor 0-for-1. Taylor with a fair ball down the line. Vargas will score easily. Taylor comes up with a two-out run scoring double. It's 7-3. Two-down runner at second, Jose Seri is up. There's a shot off the bat at Seri. That one is going to go. Home run. Jose Seri with a two-run blast. Home run number nine for Seri. And the Rays now lead 9-3. Second double of the game for Diaz is the 11th of the season. He swings, hits a ground ball through the vacated hole on the right side. That's a base hit. Mookie comes up throwing. Here comes the throw to the plate. It is in time. Mookie Betts throws out Yandy Diaz. Mookie throws a strike from right. Pete Fairbanks will take over on the mound. Two down, nobody on in the time of the ninth inning. And here's Muncie. Two hit on the ground, right side Lowe. And over to first, the Rays win it. It's a 9-3 final. The Rays take the first game of the series from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
