Welcome to Extra Life Ghana.
I'm Tony.
This is my wife, Ayo.
We'll document our move from Texas to Ghana as we go beyond our time.
And in this video, we're talking about the best time of year to visit Ghana.
And spoiler, it's not when you think.
So let's get this video started.
Is there a best time to travel to Ghana?
I think there is.
Really?
Yep.
I've been living here for almost three years now and I know when the best time is.
Okay.
So do tell.
Well, if you want to party, then you have to come in December.
December?
Ghana is lit.
Concert, the holiday events, the boom of people ready to get loose.
That sounds horrible.
If you're an introvert like me and hate traffic, then that is the worst time of year.
There is just too much going on.
I have to disagree with that.
Too much going on.
You don't have to be in the boom of it all.
You can go to the beach, resort some place.
Not for me.
Too much going on.
Okay.
Well, if you're not a party person and you want it quiet and chill, then come in January,
late and February.
Those are the least busy months without a ton going on.
You'll be able to stay low key.
January and February are not the best months.
They are like the hottest months of the whole year.
It's like an oven in here.
Okay.
If you don't like to be hot, then you should come for May through September.
That's a cooler month of the year and you really feel the difference in temperature
for sure.
So, if you're a hot person, the best months for you are those summer months in America.
Seriously?
That's the rainy season.
That's like the worst time to come.
You have to deal with the street flooding and the muddy shoes, plus businesses and transportation
is like pretty much shut down when it pours and then you're stuck with nothing to do.
Yeah, but the rain doesn't last forever.
You may lose a morning or part of the day, but usually not your whole vacation.
But it's still rainy and humid and meh.
Okay.
If you don't want rain, the dry season is from October through April.
Through that time, you'll not have to deal with too much rain except for random sprinkling.
So that means dry season or rainy season are your only two options.
All right.
Which one is better then?
Dry season or rainy season?
Those are your only two options.
This one.
I think Ghana is great in the rainy season and in the dry season.
I like it both times of the year.
I really don't think one is much better than the other.
That's not true.
Rainy season here is summer in the States, so that tends to be like peak travel times
for people who are coming in and that means it's more expensive.
Whenever I check flights back and forth, the more expensive times are for December during
Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S. and then like during Easter Springs break when everybody
is traveling in the States.
Well, yeah, we already talked about Christmas.
Be ready to pay a premium in December.
But you're right about the other times.
That's just when it's travel season in the U.S., which means prices go up.
Okay.
So I'm a big stickler when it comes to the budget.
Yeah.
You can say that again.
I'm just saying costs are important to a lot of people, not just me.
Okay.
All righty then.
If you're budget conscious, then try to avoid the big festival times here, which means you're
not coming.
There's always something happening here in Ghana.
But skip the big ones.
Skip December.
That's known for Afro Nation or you may remember it as Afrochella.
Is it Afrofuture?
I think it's Afrofuture.
Afrofuture.
Oh.
Skip Pentecost in July and August and the Trolleywood Fest in August.
Everything happening in October.
That's when all the big festivals are in all the villages.
Okay.
Skip Easter.
Those events draw a lot of people.
Again, if you're into that kind of thing.
Skip the off season when all the introverts come in.
You definitely don't want to be around all the introverts when they come in when nobody
else is here.
It's all the music, all the vendors, all the food, all the dancing, all the partying.
Sounds dope.

I'm there.
If you're coming to get into the culture, the festivals, the art scenes, I think September
through December is the best time of year.
There are usually lots of things going on and the weather is not that bad.
So now you're back to dry season.
And I get that.
That's when all the people are out shopping and they're doing the beach thing and they're
playing soccer.
Football.
Okay.
Football.
If you're a football fan, then you may want to come in January and February because that's
when AFCON games are happening.
So you don't want to miss that either.
Awesome.
Or if you're wanting the 2024 African games, that'll be at the beginning of August.
So if you're an athlete or just like sports, that could be the best time to come.
I love hearing all the people outside screaming and cheering when the games are on.
That's an awesome time of the year.
Okay.
So when is the best time to come, Tony?
Listen, anytime is the best time.
If you're here anytime of the year, you'll love it.
Something going on somewhere.
That means getting your passport, pocketbook, people together to make Ghana happen for you
here.
Well, this feels a little too open for me.
I'm going to say this.
The best time for weather is the dry season from November to April, unless you hate being
too hot, then in May to September.
But be prepared for some occasional rain and a little bit more humidity.
The best time to see animals at the Molay National Park is January through March.
The best time to party is December.
The best time for the pocketbook is...
Or the other 12 months of the year.
Not December.
Or the other 12 months of the year.
11 months.
I'm sorry.
The best time for the pocketbook is not December or during U.S. peak travel times or school
vacations.
And the best time for festivals is December, July, August, and October.
And the rest of the year.
So the best time to enjoy all the culture, food, and fun is anytime you can get here.
Yep.
That's it.

And with that, Charlie out for now.
Hot tea, then it's raining.
You get people who are like that all the time.
Then you get your rubber boots when it's raining.
I've never seen anybody walking around here with their rubber boots.
They're coming in here with their white Air Force.
White Air Force ones like, oh no, look at the mud.
I know, I've seen that before.
I'd be like, man, nobody told you those are going to look good.
Right up to your car.
You make it all the way to the car.
Do you really?
Yeah, you make it all the way up to the car.
Then you're like, damn, how did that happen?
I'll go work out for you.
What are they doing up here?
Luke!
Can you go over to my laptop and see if the little dingle for my mouse,
just pull it out and plug it back in.
All the way up by Wally.
Is it good?
They aren't doing any other AC units, are they?
No.
So it's just the one?
Yeah.
Okay, thank you.
Thank you, guys.
Be quiet.
You better hurry up, man.
Look out for the dog.
Woof, woof, woof, woof.
I should have forgotten to get a dog.
Huh?
Dog.
I saw one on the street the other day.
I was like, aw, that dog's so cute.
Maybe we'll just get that dog.
Don't pick up dogs from the street.
They was like calling and that girl had like 50 dogs.
And I was like, yo!
We're here for our homeboy.
You want to stay?
You want a dog?
Okay, here we go.
Ready?
Mm-hmm.
Here we go.
Ready?
Mm-hmm.
I'm not ready.
I can't remember your smile on your face.
Ogre chat.
People are like, oh, he really did.
I'm not putting that in the bloopers.
