(Premier League 2022/2023): Highlights West Ham - Leeds United

The final away trip of this Premier League season for Leeds United, and as the teams emerge, it's pretty straightforward for the away team. Win the next two games and stay in the division. So Leeds United have come up against a West Ham side that celebrated qualifying for a European final in midweek, and will hope to exploit that in this game this Sunday lunchtime. Ailing with space to cross into the penalty area... Harrison! Low shot! Goalkeeper Fabianski drops to his right and claims the ball. Heads go up, driven in! Rodrigo! Fires the ball into the top corner, and the long throw pays massive dividends for Leeds. What a finish from Rodrigo. Owing, this time far post. And it's headed goalwards, Christensen driven onto the goal line, and Robles gets his body behind the ball, and then he drops on top of the ball. Cornell's into the penalty area, and Bowen is underneath it, and he plays it towards the far post, and the shot is in from Declan Rice! Declan Rice arriving, put the ball down into the ground, and up and over Robles. Harrison, edge of the penalty area, plays the ball across the box, heads up on the far post, and Nonto is arriving, and McKennie got there ahead of him, and McKennie's header drops on the roof of the net. In it goes, heads go up, it's gone goalwards, Robles! Flicks it over the crossbar, Hings with the ball into the middle, Bowen's clear, Robles, oh, it's gone in with a little shot, in off the foot of the post, Leeds look to the assistant, and Leeds United are behind here. Still there for West Ham in the penalty area, still there in the cup, back into the middle, and driven into the back of the net, to ensure that Leeds United will lose this game. In it comes, headed away by Odd Bonner, and to Somerville, he tries a shot, poor shot, final whistle goes. And that is an absolute dagger to the heart in terms of Leeds' ambitions of staying in the Premier League this season. From being in front, they eventually succumb to a 3-1 defeat here, and that defeat has made life so much more difficult now, ahead of the final game of the Premier League season. And the Leeds players, well, they look distraught, they look down, they look desolate, and no surprise, because this was a game that Leeds knew they had to win, and this is a game that Leeds United have lost, and now things look tough indeed. Full-time scoreline, it's finished, West Ham 3, Leeds United 1. Yeah, I'm feeling for the boys out there, as you can see how disappointed they all are. And once again, going a goal up and looking good, we then concede that next goal, West Ham start to enjoy themselves out there, and second half is disappointing. It's not as if we didn't have chances either, but when you get them, you have to take them. Certainly a higher percentage of them at this stage of the season, and we just haven't been good enough at doing that. Robles is by the goal, distraught, sitting on his haunches. West Ham, well, they've been good, hopefully they go on and win that European title. I think Paquita and Rice, certainly quality in their midfield, but from our point of view, unfortunately, just not good enough.
