What's up you guys welcome back to my channel I am Gigi K for those of you who are new to
this channel for those of you who are not new welcome back babes I'm so happy you guys
are back I know I have been off of my channel and not really showcasing a lot of content
for about a week and a half I just wanted some time off while in Ghana to you know spend some
time with family but I am back for today's video it's going to be a lot more detailed and
informative I decided to go ahead and do a video for you guys because I get this question a lot
I mean a lot I've been traveling to Ghana a few times but this year was one of those years where
I got a ton load of questions not because I traveled to Ghana but because I brought along
my daughter and so a lot of people were curious as to what documentation and pretty much what I
checked off the list for Thea for her to be able to come to Ghana as well so I'm gonna go ahead
and provide you guys that information in this video and I hope that it's helpful before we
dive in please do not forget to like comment and subscribe so I will go through a list of
exactly the basic needs that I'll go ahead and run through that list for you so for the first
thing that you're gonna need before traveling to Ghana and anywhere internationally is a valid
passport you need to have a valid passport that won't be expiring within six months they typically
do say five to six months you can and this is for my gals and my guys in the U.S. you can
definitely get a valid passport from the United States Postal Service USPS you know you can go
online and check to see if there's any upcoming appointments I did not go through USPS I went
through the passport center at Arizona State University they do have a passport branch if you
are in the state of Arizona you can go on their website just google Arizona State University's
passport center and you can go on their website and check to see if there are available appointments
for you to apply for your passport with ASU they typically have different upcoming appointments
at dawn 12 dawn every day I think it's every day 12 dawn you can check no every Wednesday at 12
a.m. you can check online and there's available appointments it just happened that around the
time that I was applying was around November December so you know by that time things were
kind of clustered and there were really weren't appointments until like January so I needed
something quick but yeah I got an appointment like November the end of November when I got there
I needed to have her birth certificate her social security card my social security card and my ID
I believe so they made me do an application for her and for myself and then you have to turn in
his or her birth certificate to the person at the desk and they will go ahead and actually ship that
to the U.S. State Department and they will process that passport for you they typically have you
wait about two weeks before you can go ahead and check online at the U.S. Department passport website
and I'll try to link the website in the description so you can do that as well
after two weeks you can check the status of the passport to see if it's processing
or to see if it's on its way for standard passport I believe is six to eight weeks or six to nine
weeks but expedited I can't really remember and I don't really want to count I did the standard
standard process because I really wasn't in a hurry but I was but I knew it was going to come
in time so just go with that I believe I paid $100 for standard processing for Thea $100 and then
there's a $35 fee for the Arizona State Passport Center the next thing you'll have to check off
your list is a valid visa you will need a Ghana visa as a U.S. citizen a visa is required for
Ghana there are two embassies in the U.S. that you can apply for a visa you can apply at the branch
in Washington D.C. or the branch in New York City I typically go for Washington D.C. I've never tried
New York this time I went ahead and did visa upon arrival you can still get a visa upon upon
arrival for Ghana so they they did ask me for my visa upon arrivals PDF on my way as soon as I got
to the airport in Arizona but they did not ask me while I was in Chicago but when you do get to an
international airport like Brussels they will ask you for that or your visa that was stamped on
your passport or for a copy of your approved visa upon arrival PDF so you need to make sure you have
that whoever you're going to be working with at the airport need to make sure they send that to
you and that every information on that PDF is correct so yeah I did do visa upon arrival I know
that for a standard visa process it takes about was it like three weeks I would say but for
expedited it does take about a week a week and a half but I will link in Washington D.C.'s and New
York City's Ghana's embassy so you can go ahead and just check that information now the next thing
you need to make sure that you do before you even purchase your ticket is to make sure that you have
taking your yellow fever vaccine it's mandatory that you get that yellow fever vaccine I had to
get a yellow fever vaccine for Thea because she was above six months if your child is younger than
six months you do not have to get the yellow fever vaccine as long as they're in that six
months range when they're coming to Ghana and leaving Ghana you're good to go but Thea was
nine months when we were coming to Ghana so she needed to get her yellow fever vaccine
her yellow fever vaccine was around four hundred dollars yes there's no discount for kids they make
you pay the same amount that you would pay for an adult yes it was about around four hundred dollars
it was like three hundred and sixty or seventy dollars plus like office like different unnecessary
fees and for Arizona you have to go on passporthealth.com and find a location near your
zip code or your area that can go ahead and do that yellow fever you will find a location near
area that can do it I found a location in Scottsdale so it was really was it it was like
Scottsdale Paradise Valley area and the lady was really nice they're typically
nurses that have their own like practices or have their own own offices where they do give the yellow
fever shot so yeah you can do that there and the nurse was so kind and so nice if I find her
information I will go ahead and post it down below if you are in the Arizona area but yeah I
had to pay about four hundred dollars for Thea's yellow fever I got my yellow fever back in 2017
2018 so it's valid for lifetime I heard um I don't know really honestly because
online it says like it's valid for 10 years and that's what they tell you but I've been hearing
that it's valid for a lifetime so I'm not really sure but yeah so after you get your child's yellow
fever shot they'll just get go ahead and provide you a yellow fever card just certifying that you
did or he or she did get the vaccine on this day at this location because they will check that at
the airport when you get to Ghana they will have to check your yellow fever vaccine now I've heard
from a friend a friend that one of my friends told me that um I think a few years ago when she
came to Ghana she did not know that she needed to get the yellow fever vaccine and so when she got
to the airport they were like can we see your yellow fever card and she was like I don't have
it and they told her that she was she could go to this area of the airport to get a yellow fever
vaccine so I'm not sure y'all could correct me if I'm wrong but she said that she was able to get
a yellow fever vaccine at the airport I'm not sure if they'll still let you I didn't really ask I
wanted to ask but I think I forgot but yeah um I'm not sure don't I'm not telling you to not get it
but she was able to get her yellow fever vaccine for the low low look at the
so after you do get your yellow fever vaccine for you and your baby
then you are able to purchase the ticket then you can buy your ticket now there are so many
different places you can get your ticket from you can purchase your ticket directly from whatever
airline delta you can purchase it through united uh or any international airlines like the common
ones are ethiopian airline kenyan airways you can purchase from brussels you can get qatar
like um there's so many options or you can get your ticket through a third-party website
like asap tickets like I did I purchased my tickets through asap ticket I think they're
a very professional third-party website or company they really know their stuff and they're really
professional the agent that I was working with she was so dope I forgot her name but
if I do find her information I will post her direct number so you can go ahead you know I'm
I'll be I'll be really shouting people out you know what I mean like I'll be putting people on
but I will go ahead and post her information so you can contact her during the time when I purchased
my ticket I think it was March 1st so she was able to give me a discount asap tickets have discounts
on the first of every month so call on the first of every month if you can to get your ticket
you will be provided a discount the price that I paid for me and Thea was like so affordable it
was so nice like she gave me all types of of discounts and that included like a fully secure
ticket like if anything happened if I lost my luggage if there were medical issues that occurred
on the airline like things like that like I was good for me and Thea okay so I would recommend
ASAP tickets there's also Skyscanner there's OneTravel there's TripAdvisor there's a lot so
you can definitely look it up yourself I almost forgot you guys I am so sorry before you even
purchase the ticket you have gotten either your COVID vaccine or your COVID test if you would
like to be vaccinated you need to be fully vaccinated fully vaccinated means that you have
two doses of the COVID vaccine it doesn't matter what kind of dose Pfizer Moderna it really doesn't
matter just make sure you're you you are two dose down two dose dipped down and um and it has
passed two weeks since you've had your second dose that's fully vaccinated now I was able to get the
vaccine but I only had one dose and I realized that by the time I got my first dose I was not
going to make it like I wasn't going to be fully vaccinated by the time I was going to be traveling
to Ghana so I got the first dose and I also got COVID test for me and Thea all I really did was
googled um if I find the link I will post it for my people in Arizona or any other state
but yeah they have like they still have little COVID testing like um what would I call it
uh COVID testing tables that they have in different cities you just have to search them up
but they do PCR and they do like other COVID tests and stuff you need a rapid test for
Ghana you cannot just get a regular test you need a rapid PCR test for Ghana so that's what I got
for me and Thea it was free of charge um our insurance covered it um so yeah it was it was
free of charge most of them are free of charge but I can't really say for everyone but yeah you
either need to be fully vaccinated two weeks out of being vaccinated or you need to get your COVID
test um and I believe it's 48 hours before your departure date so once you have a valid passport
you have a valid Ghana visa you are vaccinated fully with the COVID vaccine or you've taken
the COVID test 48 hours before your departure date you have your yellow fever card and yellow
fever vaccine and you purchased your ticket you are good to travel now the little other accessories
that you're gonna need is um you're gonna need like mosquito repellent I'm just saying just have
it just in case I know some people don't really need it I didn't really need it but I just had it
for Thea I made sure and got mosquito repellent for Thea you can also get um malaria pills yeah
I know when I did study abroad in 2018 at the University of Ghana they made me get malaria
pills you can get those I'm not really sure I didn't get malaria malaria pills this time so
I'm not really sure when you where you can get those but you can get those um and yeah you should
be good to go make sure that you get clothes summertime clothes for my girls make sure it's a
hot girl summer because if you're coming December or summertime or any time like that
girl it's gonna be hot what I got for Thea I brought a lot of I brought a few blankets and it
was necessary I brought some blankets I brought a lot of leggings and baby shorts I brought shorts
for Thea I brought socks I brought stockings you got to bring the stockings for the mosquitoes
but yeah that's pretty much all you need for a trip to Ghana with your son or your daughter
if you're coming with a baby or anything else make sure you come with the vibes don't come
with any expectation if this will be your first time in Ghana because you know you just never
know if especially if you're new to the country you never know what you're gonna see the culture
shock everything so just come with a great attitude positive attitude come knowing that
the food will be good okay so come because you're gonna eat some good food you're gonna eat some
good food Thea is out here eating banku and tilapia she's eating kinkei she's eating jollof
rice and fried rice Thea is having a good time okay so I know you're gonna have a blast when
