Didn't my African outfits turn out so cute from the last episode?
Anyway, hey guys, welcome back to the last part of my trip to Ghana.
This week we are going to the slave dungeons, going to a new spa, and trying out a new restaurant.
So stay tuned!
There's a lot of traffic so this restaurant is 42 minutes away.
It took us an hour to get here.
The traffic was so bad and then our Uber driver, like low-key ran out of gas.
He basically wanted to cancel our ride because he was saying it was so far and he didn't
So he canceled the ride and then wanted us to pay cash and then he got gas.
It was just a whole thing.
We're here.
It's really cute.
When we first pulled up, we were like, what?
Because it's literally just like a dirt ground and like even Uber drivers looking at us like,
I know I did not just take y'all all the way out here to a dirt ground.
The inside is really cute.
There's outdoor seating.
So it's a little hot.
These sleeves have to come off first.
I think I'm gonna get some grilled chicken and a waffle because it's giving chicken and
waffles, you know what I'm saying?
So anyway, we're gonna go ahead and order.
I'm gonna show y'all what the menu looks like.
This food was good.
This food was so good.
Only thing I complained about is they're real skimpy with the protein.
Like we just ordered another side of chicken because it's just not that much.
I'm waiting on my waffle.
He thought it was a dessert.
He was like, oh, I thought you wanted a waffle as a dessert.
No, bring that out now.
Bring that out now because I want chicken and waffles.
Like that is fine.
Okay, so this is how the waffle look.
I did not know that because I don't really don't like all that extra stuff on waffle.
But let's try it.
It's actually only a half waffle.
So Doreen, I'm not sharing it with you.
Y'all know I'm too lazy to use a fork and knife.
It's actually good.
10 out of 10.
I think this is ice cream.
They finally turned this country music off.
I don't know what to do.
This is the outside.
As you can see, it's just a lot of dirt.
There's a school back there actually.
So a lot of kids just out here vibing.
He getting it.
Ayy.
Just be sure to drive in.
This is the restaurant.
Going to get a little patty.
So we wanted to get a pedicure.
Pedicure, but what's a few or just one thing?
Both.
So they have a cafe attached next door.
And let me tell you something.
The air is booming in here.
Because if there's no hair conditioner,
I'm instantly giving you minus two.
She told us to sit here and wait.
One, two, three.
Do it again.
It don't have no clink.
It wasn't in there.
One, two, three.
Y'all, look how nice my feet look.
We're about to get some food, y'all.
Currently 6.50 in the morning.
We're finally going to Cape Coast and Elmina Castle.
It's three hours away from here.
So in order to get there at a decent time,
we have to leave at 7 a.m.
The guy that took us home yesterday on Uber is our driver today.
Because I really liked him.
And I don't want to get extorted.
And then our hotel, that's a whole other subject.
They told us $120 there and back, excluding gas.
This guy told us $80 there and back, including gas.
Like two hours ago in the middle of the night,
my stomach was rumbling.
Like I was in his bathroom.
It went down like praying like,
oh Lord, please make it stop.
That was me.
My stomach was hurting so bad.
After we finished getting our pedicure yesterday,
we ended up getting a massage there.
And the massage was okay.
I'm used to massages I've gotten in Asia.
And when I tell you, they are like putting the pressure on your body.
So this massage wasn't like as impactful.
But it was still nice to like,
you know, just have somebody rubbing on your body and relaxing your body.
It was supposed to be a deep tissue massage.
It wasn't really a deep tissue anything.
It was more just like a regular massage.
For the most part, the food here was pretty good.
I'm not sure what it is that keeps making me sick.
But I'm about to drink some apple cider vinegar
and then take like these stomach pills.
Anyway, we are ready to go.
Let's see if our Uber is here.
That was a long three hour drive.
Our Uber did not have air.
So I'm like sweating.
And we just got here.
And then when you get out the car,
it's kind of like overwhelming
because it's a bunch of people trying to get you to buy stuff.
And you feel bad because like you can't buy everything.
So he told us to go inside and like look around at some of the history.
And then he's going to come get us and start the tour.
So we are starting off at Elmina Castle.
So we are going to the female dungeons.
There's going to be a lot of Colombian descendants.
So please, let's walk down the tunnel.
This is where they drop their food.
Down here, we have this system built by the Portuguese.
You know, this was the only source of water they used at that time.
For drinking, washing, everything.
They raped our women.
The governors, the soldiers, the priests, and the merchants.
But the governor, anytime he wanted to have an affair with a lady,
he came and caught the governor's backbone.
So the women who resisted were brought in
and they made sure they were chained by the two legs and the ankles.
They were chained above.
Then they were left at the very fourth window for a whole day.
Again, they were asked to lift it, to carry it.
It's very heavy, 25 kg, almost 50 pounds.
If you cannot lift it, they make sure you be given 40 lashes finally.
How much is your legged weight?
When you go to the airport, when you get to the airport,
how much is your legged weight?
50 pounds.
50 pounds, right?
Okay.
This is also the same thing.
So you can imagine, a woman who was here for about two, three months,
was not fed well or feed well,
asked to resist.
It's very sad.
We are still in the female dungeon.
This is the second largest.
This room was designed for 95 women.
95 women were here, the same treatment.
And I did the original floor.
The small portion here, I did the original floor.
No bed, no floor, nothing for three months.
The rest are all new.
Now, when the Dutch came, they made some extensions.
The Dutch added more room to the castle to contain more slaves.
So they used yellow-burned bricks for their construction.
So when they came here, they all preferred to be naked.
Both men and women, they all preferred to be naked.
And we still know it is not right for someone to be naked today.
So again, I just want to cover the fabric up,
that they will take together.
If you keep that around here, you will need it every time.
These are random metaphors.
It was put vertically and horizontally
to prevent the woman escaping out of the dungeons.
But today, we have only six left.
These are all women.
From here, they moved them straight to the gates of Noordijk.
So please, let's continue again.
So any time it rains, the rainwater fills the dungeons.
From here, the journey continues again.
So you see, we came in freely.
But the slaves, they were in chains.
They were in chains.
So as we are moving, we move about 10, 15, 30 people at the same time.
Now, from my right was where the women came down.
This is where the women came down.
And the men from my left.
So these were the men.
One man and woman saw each other for the first time.
I said, they didn't remove the staircase.
They set up a staircase all over.
And when they're done, they break it down.
Now, if you're fortunate, this will meet a friend,
a sister, auntie, nieces, cousins.
From here, the journey continues again.
And we have to continue.
But you can see, the door here is very short.
So you have to bend down.
Count five steps forward before you have a rehearsal.
I repeat, five steps forward.
If you're late, otherwise, you'll carry the whole castle on your head.
So make sure to take five.
All right.
Finally, they were brought here.
This is the gate of no return.
This is the door that is the story.
The door that says the history.
Door of no return.
Now, from here, we have two sides over here.
We are going to compare them.
Why do we have a dungeons and they set them as salt?
We have one for the Europeans, one for Africans.
Why repair salt in the African salt?
Let's go there and find out.
But don't forget, I'm going to lock you again.
Now, lock.
This is where the European soldiers were locked up.
I don't think I recorded that.
The European soldiers were locked here when they got too drunk,
because malaria was bad here.
So they would just drink alcohol to help them, like, not get sick.
So please, you all come in.
So you see the difference?
In the African salt.
They were very tall, very energetic.
Always able to revolt.
And today, they are the Jamaicans.
Today, they are always to attack their masters.
And that's why we have the sun over there,
meaning nobody came in here and survived the sun.
You can take all the bricks.
See everywhere.
Now, the second door over there, this is like a washroom and assets.
Washroom and assets.
No matter if they come here or any other part,
they don't have to put their assets in the game.
But today, I'm sorry, we're going to put you on the second door.
From here, all the way to this side,
there is a very huge underground tunnel.
The passage behind the wall.
Right away from here, we are going to walk on it,
and then we shall see part of it.
For defense, to fight the French, the Danes, the Dutch.
They were here until our independence.
Fishing village, we have also drink waters here.
Shall we now walk on the tunnel and see it?
So we're not going under?
This is the best way to see the tunnel.
No, it leads to the women's section.
Just don't go too far, my sister.
Okay, I'm trying to see.
I want to punish myself for the ladies who said no to rape.
If the officer wanted to rape you and report it up here,
you'd be pushed here until you change your mind, get locked.
See, I am by here, cross over.
Feel very little in and out this way until you change your mind.
It would be almost impossible for you to change your mind.
The female dungeon.
Shallow step down, smooth surface.
They kidnapped them, raped them, captured them.
Female dungeon, they had two.
Come and enjoy the breeze here.
Fresh air.
Are you enjoying the fresh air?
Male, the female, no shower.
You won't bathe.
Yes, you heard me right.
Unless, of course, the officer wanted to harm you on his bed.
In that case, we took some shower and a shower after that.
Let's see outside.
The fishing village, as we can see behind.
Tuesdays, fishermen along the coast of Ghana, no fishing.
Traditional statutory holiday.
Y'all, we ended up getting a personal guide by accident
because the rest of the people in our group had to leave early.
I'm really enjoying this.
We're really getting to learn about our history, our ancestors, what they went through.
Because, you know, in America, they don't teach it in depth like this, if they do teach it.
But it's just so crazy to see where they were really chained and how they were living
and how they were tortured and the exact doors and jail cells that they were in.
I also got my African name.
I can't pronounce it, but I'll have him pronounce it.
Your African name is Nana Ajoa Abebio.
Nana means queen.
Ajoa is the day born, Monday.
And then Abebio, you have returned.
So Nana Ajoa Abebio.
Say that.
Nana Ajoa Abebio.
Abebio, that was it.
And tell them your name.
Eko Morgan Mensah.
I was born on Thursday, a museum educationist at the Cape Coast Dungeon.
Okay, so if y'all come here, y'all gotta come get him.
What days you work?
Monday through Saturday, Sunday.
Every day?
Every day.
Every day, y'all.
Come see him, okay?
He made it.
He has given birth to us.
So we are not tourists.
We are here as pilgrimage.
We are on a pilgrimage to visit our ancestral land.
To say thank you, our ancestors.
We love you.
We cherish you.
We believe you.
And we honor and adore you for what you do.
And for all the departed souls in this dungeon and other dungeons across Africa,
on the high seas, we say, may they rest in peace and rise in glory.
Ashe.
The response is Ashe.
Ashe.
The dawn of return is a call to us to remember our roots,
visit our roots, as long as we have this type of skin over there.
Africa is our root.
That was why they chose Ghana to celebrate the Panafest and the Maspachindi Festival.
And as I've come across the year of return and beyond return, all those festivals are around.
I'll later show you a very beautiful museum and then I will take you to the top.
Cup populate on it.
And look at this.
African Genesis Institute.
Run up to the year of return, I guess.
A group of the aspirants were here.
And look at the phrase.
We are the children of those who refused to die.
And that is us.
Those who died, they have generations.
You go, you keep your head low three times.
I, it's really hot in here.
No food, no water, no light, no bed.
Until you go up there.
This door moved.
Another one here.
So it was doors here?
That's it.
This side.
The other side.
And wait, let me show you the scratches.
These are the scratches.
Oh, wow.
These are chained to scratch the wall.
Done.
Wow.
They wouldn't give you food, water, light, air.
I really like the story of the room.
Keep your head low as you come out.
Come this way.
Straight up on the hill, you see a small lighthouse?
Yeah.
A car seat.
That's the communication room.
Okay, all the way over there.
Up there.
Yeah.
Through the small window.
Oh.
This was the auction block.
They're buying and selling of the slave Africans.
So they would sit here and conduct business.
We've been in the car for three hours.
We haven't eaten since 7 a.m.
Just guess what time it is.
7 p.m.
It's almost been 12 hours.
We stopped to get some chips.
We are back home.
Y'all, it's 7 p.m.
We've literally been out for 12 hours
and already didn't sleep that much last night.
Because my stomach was on fire.
I'm exhausted.
So we're not going anywhere tonight.
It's a Saturday night.
We were gonna go out.
But then I'm laying it down.
So he's in the shower.
I'm about to get in the shower when he gets out.
We already placed our room service order
because I'm not even trying to leave the bed.
That's how tired I am.
So we're gonna eat our food and I'm gonna see y'all tomorrow.
Hey, y'all.
It's our last full day in Ghana.
So I'm about to take all this laundry to go get washed.
Because I have another trip coming up.
And then I'm gonna go get my hair done.
Y'all already know how they like these braids.
So it's time for them to come on out.
And then I think this is a mosquito bite.
Okay, so I did not realize that Sundays are like
the worst days to do laundry.
So I go in the laundry place and she's like,
oh, three days.
It's gonna take three days.
And literally they have a sign that says same day.
So I'm like, what?
So we're gonna go back to the hotel.
I'm gonna see if our hotel can just do our laundry.
I didn't want to go there
because I just like they were gonna rip us off.
But at this point, I just need the laundry done.
Come to find out the braiding place is not open till two.
It's only 12.45.
So we're gonna come back at two.
We're gonna go get a smoothie and a little salad right now.
We gotta be back by seven.
So I can get my laundry picked up from the hotel.
I gotta tell you about that.
So why the dude?
Hold on, y'all.
I think this is our Uber.
Oh, no, it's a great Toyota.
So the guy came to pick up the laundry.
And y'all, the way this hotel, this why I'm saying,
this hotel is really just like,
it's just really annoying.
They have a breakdown of how much everything is.
And it's in US dollars.
So you already know they taxing.
For like a shirt, per shirt, it was like $3.
Per panty was like 50 cents.
And if you have a week's worth of laundry,
that's gonna be like $40.
So when the guy saw my clothes,
he was like, it's gonna be really expensive
if you do it like that.
Just give it to me.
And you know, and then he doing these gestures.
And I'm like, what?
He was like, just, you could just pay me.
He got our number.
I was like, I'm gonna come back
and you could just pay me.
Uber is arriving.
Okay, we ended up coming to Green Bowl.
It's good.
I got, let me tell you guys what I got.
I got the cleanser smoothie,
which is banana, mango, spinach.
They didn't have any lemon and coconut water.
So this is what I got.
And then they also have,
they also have salads and wraps.
So I just got a chicken wrap with egg added.
I just got my braids done.
Just give it some time to like dry
and like poop up.
Cause it's not giving to the fullest
of its ability right now.
But don't play with me cause it is.
Shout out to my braider.
Y'all, it's literally no air in that salon.
No, because I started coughing
because I couldn't breathe.
Like I had a split second
where I literally couldn't breathe.
Like I just felt like the air was getting so dry.
I'm not used to being in facilities
with no air conditioning.
I'm sorry.
I'm gonna just say that like.
We just left our favorite place, Polo.
And I just love them.
Like the managers, the service.
The managers.
And then the server came up to me and was like,
Hi girl.
The hostess, everybody.
Everyone there.
And then tonight, big shout out to them.
And then tonight they had live music y'all.
The music was, was bomb.
So now we're gonna walk on a strip.
It's 9 40.
So it's still kind of early.
But you know, they don't party here
until like 2 AM.
And I'll be horizontal by then.
I'm not hungry,
but I kind of want a little snack or something.
So we gonna see y'all.
This is the views.
Let me put this up before somebody.
Thank you.
Car.
Thank y'all.
Safety first.
All right, bye y'all.
It's almost 12.
So we're about to check out.
I just finished packing and we're ready to go.
But when I tell y'all,
me and Dorian's stomach have been in shambles.
Like starting at like 3 AM last night.
Like we barely slept.
Me and him was taking turns running to this toilet all night.
I know in my previous videos,
I've been preaching how much I love Polo Beach Club.
Which I do.
The service was still amazing.
But I don't know what it is.
But something with their food y'all.
I'm telling y'all.
But last night was the time we actually had like a full meal.
Like dinner.
I got wings and he got pasta.
Whatever he got.
But my stomach has been hurting so bad.
Like the entire night.
My flight is not until 5.
His is not until 10 tonight.
So we got to eat something.
So we're trying to figure out the best place to go to.
I think we may go to Bondia.
Their food was pretty good.
They did have air conditioning and good Wi-Fi.
So we may go back there.
It's been real.
I'm headed to another destination.
So be sure to like and subscribe.
So you can see where I'm going next.
