You've played him in Monte Carlo. Do you feel like you're in a better position now to beat
him based on what's been happening in the last few days?
Well, I'm definitely playing better than in Monte Carlo. I have more clay court practice,
more clay court matches, so I'm feeling my game better.
But Holger is a very strong player and after I lost to him in Monte Carlo, I said that for me,
he's for the moment playing much better on clay than on hard court, I think,
the same time he won't burst you, so he can play everywhere. But I feel like that's where he feels
the best. Yeah, his game, it suits his game, so I definitely need to try to play better than there
and I'm sure I'm going to be able to do it.
And Medvedev, are you a bit surprised how well he's playing on clay?
Because he always said he doesn't like clay.
I'm not really surprised, actually. I just think maybe it was more mental in the beginning,
that he tried to change something when he was going to step into the clay season and I feel
like now, I feel like he's playing more or less the same as he's doing on hard court,
which is really, really effective and I think that's helping him a lot.
He's great and I think he's playing more freely as he's, I mean, he has maybe less to lose now
on clay. He obviously has no points to defend from last year and stuff like this and just playing
more freely, so that's also dangerous. But yeah, I played him in Monaco, a really successful match
from my side and yeah, it could be fun to play him again.
Did you ever think it would ever come to this, you playing a Masters final on clay?
Honestly, I don't think so, because also you have the likes of Novak, Rafa, Stefanos, Sasha,
who are definitely better than me on clay courts. But I managed to beat two of the names I mentioned
here this week, playing great and feeling great, so I'm really happy about it and when you don't
believe in something, that's how it works for me. Some players, as we know, do it differently.
They believe that they're going to be number one, they believe that they're going to win all the
titles in the world. For me, it's kind of the opposite way. I'm like, look, I'm going to try
to do my best and let's see how it goes. But when I'm there, I don't want to lose tomorrow. I want
to go for the one match that is left. I'm going to give my best and try to get this title.
And how much would you want to win that final now that you're in it?
Yeah, of course. I think all of us want to win, no matter who's going to be in the final. But
yeah, I'm just going to try to stay relaxed. Obviously, I was really close to do the Monaco
and I learned from that, not put too much expectation and pressure on myself going into
the final. Just enjoy it. It's not every day you play finals, so you just got to seek it all in and
try to play your best. You know, finals is different. It's who's going to handle the
nerve best, who's going to play the best and important moments and we'll see.
I think finals is more mental than other matches.
