A special coach has made a special club very relevant again.
Last year's Conference League triumph was not a fluke.
Roma worked very hard on Thursday night in Germany,
so Mourinho understandably shuffles his pack.
Rui Patricio Bode, Ibanez and Pelotti are the four survivors from Leverkusen.
The return to fitness of Smalling and El Sharaoui is a timely boost
for the Giallorossi with the Europa League final at the end of the month.
Four changes for Paolo Sosa and Selenitano from their dramatic win over Atalanta.
Candreva scored the late winner in that game and he's now fit to start.
El Sharaoui, great to see him fit again after
scoring the game against Monza and picked up a knock in the same fixture.
El Sharaoui gives chase. Wonderful control.
And he did a good challenge from Emil Bohinen.
Castellos claiming a corner kick, but Andrea Colombo
Rather Castellos claiming a free kick, Andrea Colombo saw it as a corner.
Roma are good from this sort of position, particularly with Smalling in the side.
El Sharaoui sends in the cross, Smalling's header
doesn't work the goalkeeper on this occasion.
Tahirovic, Mourinho in conversation
with one of the members of his coaching staff, Salvatore Forti.
Koulibaly, now it's Pionte.
Couldn't turn it into the path of Candreva.
Selenitano using the ball better in the early stages compared with Roma.
Koulibaly, Pirona, forward by Koulibaly.
Candreva's there! Sensational.
He is a brilliant footballer
and this season he just keeps reminding us of that fact.
A brilliantly timed run, but the execution on that is out of this world.
Credit to Koulibaly for the driven ball, but to keep his eye on that
and then to volley it home mid-flight into the top corner
is a piece of skill of the highest order.
Koulibaly will be delighted with the assist.
Spotted the movement from Candreva, probably had no idea
that would be the outcome. Castanos from a long way out.
It's an easy gather for Rui Patricio.
Would potentially part with him if an offer in the region of 35 million euros
were to arrive.
Bove, Solbakken teasing it in
with Mike Jonber and then Koulibaly.
Tahirovic has let it bounce because Smalley gave him a shout.
Bove, still Bove, El Sharaoui.
Castanos, who was likely to cut inside on his favoured left,
which is what he does now.
Bohinen, might fancy a shot, Bohinen's effort.
Keremicis recently, Paz, Koronta,
Luakima, Nicolo Pizzilli,
Matteo Falasca, Candreva with time and space.
No foul by Zalewski, Candreva incredulous.
Roma can count it.
Nikola Zalewski.
Bohinen's lost his footing.
Roma have numbers here.
Zalewski going himself.
Not sure I knew it was sailing over the top.
That was on Danilo D'Ambrosio of Inter.
El Sharaoui takes the corner.
They were queuing up, Ibanez.
Roma have an equaliser in added time at the end of the first half.
You cannot afford to give this side too many set piece opportunities.
This has goal number four of the season.
Belotti was there too,
but it was Ibanez who was quickest to locate the ball
and with a slightly scuffed connection,
still able to generate the purchase on it to take it past Ochoa.
Caught the shoulder initially of Roger Ibanez,
but it's the Roma fan.
It's gone very quiet inside the Olimpico,
but the referee has been instructed to go across
and take a look by Hunches.
Belotti handled and the goal will be disallowed as a result.
Andrea Colombo will take his time here.
There's the arm from Belotti.
Clearly catches a portion of his forearm before the shoulder.
And that comes directly prior to Ibanez stabbing it home.
Just there, clearly catches Belotti's arm.
That's why it has been brought to the attention of Andrea Colombo by Luca Banti.
Roma thought they had an equaliser,
but upon review, the referee decides the goal doesn't stand.
Handball against Belotti.
Salernitana's one goal lead remains.
A couple of players for the second half.
Lorenzo Pellegrini on for Solbacca,
Llorente on for Ibanez and the third of the trio.
It's only just come on the pitch, Pellegrini.
Pellegrini goes for goal, pushed away by Ochoa
and finished beautifully by Stefan El-Sharawy.
Really neat finish from El-Sharawy.
That was not easy at all,
but Ochoa did not push the free kick away convincingly.
And El-Sharawy steered it home.
A rapid response in the second period.
Forward by Bove.
Piron has let it bounce, but it should drift into touch.
Diab, nicely done.
Coming deep to get involved in the build-up play.
This is Candreva, Pjontek peeling away.
Pjontek, wonderful control and Diab manages to convert it.
He sorted his feet out and somehow forced it home.
Candreva did well, but the control here from Pjontek was superb.
He was looking for Pulaitia, I think.
But the presence of mind to somehow swivel and turn it past Rui Patricio
was really impressive indeed from Pulaitia.
When you're hot, you're hot.
And he's absolutely electric at times.
Mourinho unhappy at the Roma defending,
but Pulaitia, who had gone two games for...
at least not so much so far.
Belotti battling away with John Baird.
It's going to be a yellow card for John Baird.
And with that, he will play no part in Salernitana's final home game of the season.
Zalewski.
This is El-Sharawy, whose goal had given Roma hope.
El-Sharawy with the cross.
Abraham, not sure, able to gather.
Nice glance from Tammy.
But it was some distance out.
It needed something special from there to really give El-Sharawy a headache.
This is Pulaitia, surrounded by red shirts.
He's got pace and trickery, Cristante.
Always willing to sacrifice himself for the cause, though.
Llorente has carried this a long way.
El-Sharawy keeps it in play.
It's back for Llorente.
Llorente, Cristante.
It is a corner.
Took his goal at the Arequi really well back in August.
Ten months later.
Pellegrini teases it in.
And there's a chance for Llorente.
Matic!
Hammered home.
And Roma have eight minutes now to go on and win it.
The master of the late goal at that end of the ground, seemingly.
Matic dug them out of a hole against...
And he's scored the leveller here.
Just put his boot through it and forced it past Memo Ochoa.
So Lenny Turner didn't get it clear.
And it's another set piece for Roma.
The first goal came via a free kick.
The second comes courtesy of a call.
Much more urgency now about Roma.
Even more so than they had when they were trailing 2-1.
Curiously, Zalewski, shown inside by Braderich.
Zalewski pulls the trigger.
But it goes over the top.
Not dissimilar from his run in the first half.
That shot was with his right.
This effort was with his left.
Nice balance about him on both occasions.
Fizz through the crowd of bodies.
Only his second goal for Roma after that strike against Torino.
Smallings won the header.
That was a foul by Dani Ljuk, bundling over Belotti.
Dani Ljuk's going to be booked there.
Which means he'll be suspended as well against Torino.
So they're going to have a shortage of centre-backs.
So Lenny Turner for that game.
Dani Ljuk joining John Baird on the list of suspended players.
Paolo Sosa also seemingly bemused by the awarding of seven minutes of added time.
Braderich couldn't keep it in play.
Roma have a throw.
This is Cristante between the lines.
Abraham Cristante went with his head.
Could he have let it drop for the volley?
Llorente couldn't stretch.
Boulay Dia.
Boulay Dia has shoved over Zalewski.
It's going to be a yellow card for the Pole.
And what colour will it be for Boulay Dia?
It's become a brawl now.
It's the foul from Zalewski.
Pulled the shirt and he was given a good old-fashioned shove from Dia.
Zalewski's already been booked.
The referee has yet to decide what punishment to mete out to Boulay Dia.
It's a yellow card in the end for him.
So a caution for both players.
And a red card.
It's a wry smile from the Roma head coach.
In the end, it's on as even between Roma and Zalewski.
Roma now six matches without a win.
Paolo Sosa is able to be the tactical equal of his compatriot.
Demjan Matic got a point for the Ciallorossi.
