Lots of history there and a whole lot between Patrick and the Mets.
This is his 25th career start against New York and he's 6'10".
Again, everything is going to be dictated by the defense behind him
because he has been getting the ball put in play quite a bit.
Brandon Nemo will lead off against Corbin.
Nemo grounds one toward the hole and that's a base hit.
Two open matters this afternoon.
Nemo has now hit six straight games in the Mets of a leadoff base run.
Lindor batting right handed here.
First pitch, Lindor slaps it out to left center.
Alex Call, a welcome one pitch out.
Here's Alonzo, beat the D.H. today.
Up the middle, by the mound, to the bag.
Garcia, 4-3 double play.
In an ending double play, induced by Patrick Corbin.
Peterson, lifetime against Washington.
2-0 in five starts and six appearances with a 2.93 ERA.
But does he ever need a big time start here?
And Lane Thomas leading off against David Peterson.
First pitch is lined to left center field.
Toward the gap, it's going to get down and roll to the bullpen fence.
Thomas around first, speeding for second.
And Lane Thomas, fifth double of the year on the very first pitch thrown.
And Luis Garcia, lefty-lefty matchup.
Garcia drives one.
Straight away center.
That'll move Nemo back easily to third base.
Lane Thomas.
Joey's been great with runners in scoring position at 4'10".
That ball is hooking away from the left fielder.
And no play for Tommy Pham.
Joey Meneses into second base.
RBI double.
The Nats on top in a hurry.
Now his second hit with runners in scoring position against lefties.
And thanks to the double play ball, Patrick Corbin first inning, 12 pitches,
eight strikes.
Now the pitch swung on, hit high in the air to center field.
Call going back.
He's at the warning track.
He makes the catch.
Canada doing damage against the Nationals.
361 and 83 at bats.
30 hits.
Swing and a fly ball.
Shallow right.
Thomas coming in calling for it.
Makes the catch.
Here's Starling Marte.
Marte low bridges Corbin and whacks one into center field.
A bullet just past the pitcher's ear for Marte for a two-out single.
Here's McNeil.
Marte running.
Pitch taken for a strike.
Throw by Ruiz on one hop into center field as it gets away from Abrams,
the shortstop.
And up and on his way to third is Marte.
And the Mets now have a runner at third with two men out
as Marte has stolen his 11th base.
2-1 pitch.
Swing and a liner to right field.
That's a base hit and it ties the game.
Marte scores from third.
McNeil holds it first with an RBI single.
His 14th run batted in of the year.
And the Mets have tied it up.
It's 1-1.
Escobar with a line drive single.
And the Mets now with three straight two-out hits.
And that will bring up the number nine hitter, Francisco Alvarez,
in this 1-1 game.
And that's inside ball four.
And now the bases are loaded for Demo.
Corbin kicks the ball to the pitch.
Inside.
Pickoff play on it first.
And he's out!
As Alvarez did not get back, he's walking away like he knows he was out.
Nats have been trying it lately.
And this time it appears they've pulled it off.
Here we go.
Bottom two.
And Jamer Candelario for the Nats.
Jamer Candelario hits one past the mound.
Lindor with a Spinarama on target to Canna.
Beautifully done by Lindor.
An outstanding play.
With his momentum carrying him out into right field,
he throws out Candelario one out.
Left-handed hitter Nemo waits.
The 0-1 is on the way.
And it's golfed in the air to left field.
Stone Garrett drifting back, now coming back in.
And he makes the catch.
Busted bat.
Garrett after it.
Sliding!
Oh, what a play!
He's got the fair ball.
The Nats have made some tremendous plays in the outfield in this series.
And Stone Garrett knowing that he's going closer and closer over there.
He does not short-arm it.
Great play.
2-2.
Swing and a miss.
Struck him out with a fastball.
Corbin's first strikeout.
One out.
Base is empty.
Bottom of the third.
And Lane Thomas.
Yeah, we like it.
Not trying to do too much.
And Lane Thomas, two for two.
The 1-2 with a slide step.
And the pitch is lined into left field for a base hit toward the line.
Thomas around second.
The ball back in.
A long line by Pham.
Then juggled.
Thomas then hesitated and goes back to second.
Garcia will dash back to first.
Big spot for Joey here.
The pitch.
Swing and a line drive.
Hooked down the left field line.
It is fair inside the line and down to the corner.
Thomas will score.
Garcia to third will stop there.
And in at second with another RBI double is Joey Manessis.
He's driven in both Nationals runs.
They are back in front leading the Nats 2-1 here in the third inning.
Here's Ruiz who grounded out to McNeil his first time.
Swing and it's golfed in the air.
To medium center field.
Nemo is there waiting.
Garcia back to tag.
Nemo's got it.
Garcia's coming home.
Nemo's throw to the plate.
On one bounce.
He's not in time.
Garcia slides in safely without a tag.
Ruiz gets the RBI and a sack fly.
It is 3-1 Washington.
We're in the top of the fourth.
One on one out.
Corbin on the 0-1.
Right side Garcia.
Abrams across the bag.
So that's an important second out.
Corbin delivers.
Swing and it's golfed in the air to deep center field.
Racing back is call.
Still back to the warning track.
He'll run it down, make the catch, and the side is retired.
So Abrams at first.
Smith at third.
And here's Lane Thomas.
Two for two.
Two runs scored.
A double and a single.
Runner goes at first.
Lane Thomas takes it.
Throw off to the third base side.
And it gets away from Lindor.
And Dominick Smith will score from third.
The Nats running into a run here to take a three-run lead.
Two on, two outs.
Garcia's fly to deep center and then had a good piece of hitting last inning.
One-two on the way.
Swing and a chopper left side toward the vacant hole.
It's a base hit into left center field.
Racing for the plate is Abrams.
The throw into second.
Nationals lead it five to one.
Garcia's second hit.
He picks up the RBI.
Four of his last five outs have been ground balls.
Getting the ball down and letting his defense work behind him.
And the pitch swung on.
Grounded to first.
Fielder by Smith.
Going to flip to Corbin.
Covering over.
Three ground ball outs for Patrick Corbin.
Runners at first and second with two men out.
So here is Smith now.
And the pitch.
Swing and a ground ball right side through to right field.
A base hit.
Ruiz to third making the turn.
They're going to wave him home.
Here comes Marte's throw.
It's cut off by Canna.
And they'll have Candelario to run down.
And the throw to Lindor tags him out now.
The Nationals get another run here at the bottom of the fifth inning.
Now the Mets are open for business here in the sixth inning.
They've got runners at the corners.
Nobody out.
And Tommy Pham will be the batter.
And Pham strokes one the other way.
But coming in is Thomas.
Tagging at third is Lindor.
He'll come down the line.
And he will score.
So Pham gets a run in with the sacrifice fly.
And it's now six to two.
Pitching into the sixth and trying to pitch through the sixth.
Corbin challenges him.
Jams him.
Here comes Jamer.
On the run.
And the ball gets away.
It hits Wayne Kirby.
And over to third will be Canna.
Jeff McNeil has hit it hard twice.
Base hit to right.
And a fly ball to deep center.
McNeil.
Left field.
Garrett is there.
Stone Garrett holds on.
And so does Corbin.
C.J. Abrams 0 for 2.
Oh, that ball's well hit by C.J.
See you later.
Second deck above the bullpen.
What a swing by C.J. Abrams.
And he knew it.
Well, I think we officially have a Met killer.
And the Nationals have been extra base hit machines today.
And Lane Thomas is on for the fourth time.
Thomas over to third with two outs.
Garcia now 2 for 4.
McManess is a pair of RBI doubles in the first and third innings.
Chopper.
Left side.
Looks like a hit.
And the Nats add another.
It's eight to two.
Infield in.
RBI sitting out there for Doms.
Here's the pitch.
And this one is golfed in the air to left field.
Pham is there.
Candelario back to tag.
Pham makes the catch.
Candelario trying to score.
Pham's throw to the plate.
Gets by the catcher to the backstop.
And took a big skidding hop.
Candelario scores.
Smith gets the sack fly.
And the Nationals lead 9 to 2.
Garcia will be the runner at first with two out.
And Joey Maness is the batter.
3 for 4 for Maness.
And that ball is hit well out to right center.
These two converging again.
And nobody makes the connection again.
A round to score is Garcia.
And Joey Maness has a four hit day.
Four hit day.
Four separate knocks with RBI.
What a day for Joey.
Alvarez a runner at first with the bases loaded.
And Brandon Nimmo will be the batter.
Topper to the right side.
Garcia bare hands.
Gets.
No.
Does not get Nimmo at first.
He beats it out.
To make it 10 to 3.
And the Nats are going to challenge the call at first.
After review, the call is overturned.
The runner is out.
The kick and the pitch.
Swing and a fly ball to right field deep.
But playable for Lane Thomas.
Backpedaling out of the track.
He makes the catch.
And Bingzuma.
Curly W's in the books.
The Nationals earn a split of this four game series.
And they win this one pretty much going away.
