Yeah, you don't need him to be the Corey Kluber of five years ago.
Right.
You need him to be a four or a five starter to give you five good innings, keep your team
in the game.
He's been known to do that.
He can kind of figure it out as the season goes along.
3-2, this one sent towards left, Yoshida is not going to be able to get there, it bounces
off the track, off the wall, and Lars Neutbard delivers a double to lead things off.
Now Paul Goldschmidt, right-handed hitter, two for nine in his career against Kluber.
Goldschmidt, a little blooper, Kassus won't get there.
Neutbard will round third, he's going to come in and a little blooper, RBI single for Paul
Goldschmidt, two batters in, it's one-nothing Cardinals.
Jam shot single by Goldie, RBI number 21 for him.
Here's Nolan Gorman batting third, he fires this ball to right.
Verdugo now is there and he is able to make the play.
And he got him way out in front of a curveball and Arradono strikes out for the second out.
Goldschmidt will be off with the pitch, one-nothing Cardinals.
The pitch is swung on and missed, he got him, inning over, and a nice bounce back from Kluber.
The Cardinals had a run in with nobody out and Kluber then mows him down.
Tonight, Myles Michaelis will try to make sure that lineup led off by Verdugo will not
do that.
His last four starts have been very, very good.
2-2 to Verdugo and this one into the gap and that one is going to get down and go to the
wall.
Verdugo hustling into second.
Alex Verdugo leads off the game the same way Newt Barrett did.
Here is Yoshida.
And Yoshida on the ground and that's fielded by Gorman down to third goes Verdugo, Yoshida
moves the man up.
J.T.
Justin Turner swings at the first one, fouls it straight back.
That's Garnett Hathaway, it was a forward for the Boston Bruins.
Somebody suggested maybe they go run the bases and he said, I don't think they let him skate
on the ice before a game, we're not going to let him run the bases.
Here's Michaelis' next one and turn.
It's not deep enough or is it?
Newt Barr has it, Verdugo will fake.
And a really good throw from Lars Newt Barr out there in right field, keeps the runner
at third base.
Here comes the guy that is at the top of the American League leaderboard for home runs.
He's got 11, Rafael Devers.
Devers hits this one hard, Newt Barr can't get there and Devers delivers a run batted
in his 37th of the season.
That's 1-1.
One away and here comes DeJong.
That was swung at, that one was smoked to center field.
Duran just turns and looks and it is gone.
Wow, what a smash from Paul DeJong, 425 feet.
It lands, it's DeJong's fourth and it's 2-1 Cardinals.
3-2 count, did not listen.
Another leadoff man is aboard.
So now Andrew Kisner.
The one strike pitch to Kisner is hit high in the air to deep center field.
That is long gone, straight away center field.
Andrew Kisner with a big fly to center his second home run of the year.
Two more Cardinal runs and it's 4-1 St. Louis.
Man oh man, did he get into that one.
Here's Rafi Devers.
2-2 and Devers smacks this one in the same place he hit one earlier.
Right to the gap, hard off the wall.
He'll have play at second base.
Here's the throw.
Devers dives and he right away says go and check.
He went with a swim move.
He's right.
He's safe.
Wow, and they will not.
They're not challenging this.
Did he hit the glove with his hand on the way by?
That's the question.
You're right.
Did he shave the arm on the way by?
Very quickly, there are two outs.
Here is Casas.
There you go, the other way for Casas.
He doesn't get to the wall.
He is aboard with a single.
2-2 delivery.
Is grounded to the right side.
And it's gobbled up by Gorman who flips to DeYoung.
And they get the force there.
Ball four.
Good A.B.
Good plate appearance for Reyes.
And now back to the top of the order for Alex Verdugo.
3-2.
Reyes goes again.
Verdugo on the ground.
They will not have a chance for the play at second with the
runner in motion.
Check on second base.
The pitch on the way.
Grounded to the second baseman Gorman.
He takes his time and throws out Yoshida leaving Reyes on second.
There's one down.
Andrew Kisner.
His second hit of the night and follows up that homer with a
single.
Center fielder now.
Lars Neutbar.
On the ground.
And that's through the hole.
And now the Cardinals are in business against Bernardino.
Back to back singles.
Kisner and Neutbar.
A very dicey spot for Brennan Bernardino against the guy who
in the history of the game has the third best career O.P.S.
against left handed pitching Paul Goldschmidt.
2-2 to Goldschmidt.
92 after a nasty curve ball.
And he gets him with a sinker.
3-2 way inside.
That will load the bases as Gorman draws a walk.
And here comes Arenado who has not looked great at the plate with a
couple of strikeouts tonight.
And it will go to Ryan Brazier the righty to come in.
And Arenado reaches out.
Gets that to fall in front of the center fielder.
And the play at the plate is cut off.
What a job by Arenado with two outs to deliver.
Two runs.
6-1 St. Louis.
Well, that's the old Nolan Arenado on that swing.
He went down to get it.
Turner has gone 2-for-6 with a walk in past performances against
Miles Michaelis including 0-for-2 tonight.
Turner shallow right center field.
It's the right fielder who's now Donovan there to make the play.
Devers hits this one to center.
And that sends Neutbar back.
And he is there shy of the track for the second out.
The 2-2 pitch.
Grounded to the shortstop.
Paul DeYoung throws him out with the Cardinals leading 6-1 at Fenway Park.
Miles Michaelis out after six innings of good work holding down this offense.
Cardinals trying to sweep this series.
As he's Cabrera now into the game for St. Louis.
Ball for the leadoff man aboard.
Rips this one to the corner.
Gone says the first base umpire.
Emmanuel Valdez hooked it around the pole.
St. Louis is kind of challenging the fans down there.
They're really the ones that called it.
That ball looked like it was on the inside part of the foul pole.
Do you lose the baseball as it passes the pole?
Yes you do.
It's got to be a foul ball.
After review.
The call is overturned.
Ball is fouled.
So Valdez comes back to the plate.
Casas goes back to first base.
1-2.
Swing and a miss.
Valdez gone.
Well the replay review guy gets credited with two runs.
Now they're loaded.
And here is Yoshida.
And Yoshida lifts this to left and it is playable for Burleson.
He's there and he makes the play.
Lars Neutbar have yourself a night.
Doubled.
Single scored a couple of runs.
Made a couple of very good defensive plays.
That ball smoked the wall and left.
It'll go off the wall.
It's fielded by Yoshida.
Here's your throw.
And Lars Neutbar.
Two doubles and a single.
Nolan Gorman stands in.
There's a ball popped up.
Down the left field line and a long run for Yoshida on the run.
He can't get there in time.
And it's a fair ball.
It's a fair ball and a double and an RBI for Gorman.
He placed that one in the right spot.
Yoshida was playing so far off the line,
he couldn't get over there to make the catch.
I don't think anybody thought that ball was going to stay in or be fair.
And it was both.
For Gorman makes it 7-1.
Nolan Aranato maybe the biggest hit of the night.
Scored a couple and blew the game open.
This one is smoked.
It's gone.
Nolan Aranato.
Homers on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
He tacks on three more.
Nolan Aranato just loving Fenway Park.
There's the Cardinals' goal for the sweep at Fenway Park.
On the inside.
Corner strike three and another punch out for Stratton.
And this ball game has come to an end with the Cardinals sweeping the Red Sox.
