Indulis SUNA (1950) is a Latvian born Canadian concert violinist and holds post-graduate degree from the P. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (1982) as well as a diploma with honours from the Latvian State Conservatory (now Music Academy) in Riga (1975).
Indulis Suna was born in Riga and first studied violin at the Music School and College in Jelgava with Romans Sne. After graduation I. Suna continued his studies at the J. Vitols Latvian Music Academy in Riga where he received his M. Mus. Degree with
Prof. Juris Svolkovskis.
From 1979 to 1982 I. Suna completed his post-graduate course at the P.I. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory with Prof. Dmitri Tsiganov.
Between 1982 and 1986 Indulis Suna was the first violinist of the Latvian State String Quartet. From 1986 until 1989 I. Suna continued his performing career as a soloist of the Latvian State Philharmony.
In addition to his demanding performing accomplishments he also held a violin teaching position at the Jaz. Medins Music College and Jaz. Vitols Latvian Music Academy in Riga.
During his professional life I. Suna has played many recitals and made numerous recordings with outstanding pianists including Hermanis Brauns, Vilma Cirule, Ventis Zilberts, Anna Balakerskaia and his wife Ilga Suna.
Since 1991 Indulis Suna and his family reside in Canada where he continues a very successful concert violinist's career.
Indulis Suna has performed 18 of world premiere compositions including 2nd String Quartet by Peteris Vasks, works by Imants Zemzaris, Arturs Grinups, Maija Einfelde and Alexander Levkovich. Many composers have dedicated their works to the violinist.
For the last 25 years these recordings have been broadcasted all over the world by Latvian State Radio, Radio Budapest, BBC and CBC radio.
