Take it the mound this afternoon
for the Tampa Bay Rays it's
going to be right hander Zach
Eflin as you take a look at his
season numbers four starts the
record three and all the ERA a
tidy three.
This is I'll tell you right
here.
Big big reason why Zach Eflin is
so efficient.
He stays away from the wall.
Twenty one strikeouts just
three walks and here's Marcano
stepping in first pitch a little
tap down the first base side.
Yandy is going to get the tag
pitch and one out the height of
efficiency to get this one
under way and not do it any
better than that.
Popped up short left.
Rosarito is coming in and he's
going to call Franco off and
make the catch.
Here's Andrew McCutcheon
accounting for the lone
Pittsburgh run yesterday with a
solo home run and strike three.
That one at the very top of the
zone McCutcheon didn't like it
thought it was high.
This was the interesting part.
They spent a lot of time looking
at Zach Eflin's glove and
talking.
What do you say.
Who says what do you want me to
do.
Keep an eye on Vince Velasquez
now fourth career start against
these Rays.
This is seventh start looking
for him to stay on track be
competitive in the zone.
That's a liner and a base hit up
the alley toward right center.
So it's going to try to cut it
off.
Yandy's headed to second and
he's in there standing with a
double.
So he got two on here with
nobody out for Velasquez shop to
the shortstop Marcano to Bay.
And that's what Vince Velasquez
needed in a big way a double
play ball from a Rosarito Diaz
to third two outs trying to
strand Yandy Diaz third there.
Yes he did.
Vince Velasquez conversation
before we move into the second
inning here.
That's the crew chief Adrian
Johnson out there.
I guess they ask him to remove
that ring down to first and
Yandy Diaz takes care of that
too.
I'm no one on Lisa for Connor
Joe's had a fine series and
strike three.
He gets that call on that
fastball up a little bit.
Joe Kopp looking to 60 hitter
for home runs for Paredes line
drive right at the shortstop.
Woo.
That ball was doing all kinds of
crazy things there.
Marcano stuck with it.
And here is Taylor Walsh
switcheter batting left handed
the two to the Walsh fly ball
deep to right field way up into
the air to the wall goes Connor
Joe and it's gone.
Homerun Walsh hooks one around
the right field foul ball on the
Rays take a one nothing lead.
That's now five for Taylor
Walsh.
Here's a one two from Velasquez
swing and a miss.
Good slider struck about second
strikeout for Vince Velasquez.
Got to look for a run here with
delay.
The catcher his first at bat of
the series ground ball short
stop Bronco second base one
quick throw to first.
They get the double play.
Nice turn there by Walsh six
four three on the double play
one out.
The Diaz the double his first
time up on a short hop on the
backhand Hayes gloves and throws
a strike on the first on a hard
hit ball up the line at third
Hayes Cooley fields it and gets
to check it out.
Bounce to short Marcano his job
there on two three three round
ball outs taking a little bit
more time here.
But that that clock gets to like
eleven or down to ten and the
pitch is made.
And there is a strike three
third strikeout of the game for
Eflin.
There's a one to swing and a
hard ground ball through right
center and a base hit cut off by
Margot that extends the hitting
streak to nine with a one out
single.
Oh two where the man on swing and
a miss good breaking ball got
him.
And that's the first swinging
strikeout for Eflin and number
four in the ballgame here in the
fourth.
So now two out a runner at first.
Let's see if Reynolds tries to
go on the move here with
Santana at the plate shop.
That's going to be a fair ball.
He has for a moment look down to
second realize all he had to do
was touch the bag at first.
And I think there was a little
mix up there in the mind of
Yandy Diaz.
How many outs there were.
Unfortunately the last guess is
forced to leave the game.
So Jose Hernandez will come on
and Kirk Shelton informing
complaint of many Gonzalez that
Hernandez will need as much time
as he needs to get ready because
of the injury.
Randy Rosarito is set to lead
off grounded into a double play
his first turn.
Ball right field that's got some
carry to it.
Joe's going to go to the wall
that baby's gone.
Opposite field.
All right.
Randy Rosarito his eighth home
run of the year.
Both Rays runs have come on the
long ball lefty batting really
coming up.
And he gets another strikeout
gives up the home run.
But then Adam Myers down to Zach
Eflin on for the fifth and only
thirty nine pitches.
Two and strike three called
throws him right there to pick
up the strikeout.
That's number five two balls two
strikes one out.
Nobody on fifth inning two to
nothing Rays Eflin pitches
strike three called fastball on
or slightly just off the outside
corner.
He got the call on that six days
for Eflin.
In the center field Margo is
right there and Hayes is out.
Number three payoff from the
windup he throws swing slow
chopper softly hit it short
charging Franco off balance
throw to first and he got a
nice play right there.
They can get down the line and
Franco made the play.
What a great feel.
What a great feel by Wander
Franco.
Watch how quickly realizing
who's running.
I've got to get rid of this
right now and try to get
something on it.
Right.
Adding Jason Dilley and a swing
and miss.
Well he showed him three pitches
there and struck him out on
three.
Some kind of a good rhythm right
now.
One ball two strike and the
pitch is strike three called at
the top of the zone and the
pirates still having problems
with the strike zone of Manny
Gonzalez eight strikeouts to
another count on Paredes with
the bases clear now and two outs
in this two run game in the six
that could pay dividends.
The pitch swung on hit high in
the air to center very deep
clears the catwalks caught by
Soinski.
The inning ends left hand
hitting left fielder is one for
two one of just two hits both
singles.
I'll sack Eflin.
Let's go with that heater up
heater up and he gets a strike
called up there again.
Boy that's been a go to spot for
him.
Eflin with nine strikeouts his
career high is twelve.
Ball that's fair going to get
past Yandy Diaz beyond the
bullpen kicks back out to Rayleigh
and Santana is on his way to
second.
He'll arrive ahead of the throw
with a two base hit.
So it snaps that streak of 10
consecutive hitters retire a
push tag.
And here comes Soinski the
center fielder as well as
Eflin has pitched it's still a
two run game stretches and
offers swing and a miss.
He got him with a fastball 10
strikeouts in seven shutout
innings for Zach Eflin.
It's Colin Holderman now
pitching number four nine
pitches an immaculate inning one
of the rarest feats in all the
baseball and Colin Holderman
just executed it immaculately.
First it's Juan Nicasio for the
Pirates back in twenty sixteen
in the record books for an
immaculate inning.
Yandy Diaz with one out in the
eighth raise up to nothing.
One swing and a high fly ball
toward fairly deep right center
Joe back to the track and this
ball is gone.
It just cleared the wall in
right center field the third
solo homer of the day for the
Rays.
Yandy has eight of the Rays in
front three nothing hit by pitch
gets a baserunner puts the
tying run on deck for the
Pirates.
Now here is Brian Reynolds
chopped to the second baseman.
Oh drops.
Yes Marcano able to dislodge the
ball as Walsh was looking for a
double play and runners at first
and second with one out
McCutchen who struck out to end
the game against Jason Adam on
Tuesday night and a swing and
miss the breaking ball takes
care of McCutchen two outs
Marcano hit by pitch Reynolds
reaching first.
All right this could be a good
matchup right here.
Carlos Santana is going to be
hunting a fastball.
Hopefully we'll see some
fireworks.
Line drive to right center field
and that's going to get past the
right fielder Rayleigh.
This will score a couple.
Carlos Santana's double makes it
a one run game in the ninth
inning.
Carlos Santana really good at
getting the foot down but
keeping his hands back and
loaded.
The Pirates have two on with two
out the tying and go ahead runs
are on base.
And here comes Connor Jones.
That's going to do it.
He is out on strikes and the
Rays win it.
