煙籠寒水月籠沙，
Shrouded are mist over water and moonlight on sand.
夜泊秦淮近酒家。
At night, boat is anchored at Qinhuai near teahouse.
商女不知亡國恨，
Singer girl knows not the pain living under conquest.
隔江猶唱後庭花。
Across river, she still sings pleasure indulging tunes.

白話譯文
浩渺寒江之上瀰漫著迷濛的煙霧，
皓月的清輝灑在白色沙渚之上。
入夜，我將小舟泊在秦淮河畔，臨近酒家。
金陵歌女似乎不知何為亡國之恨黍離之悲，
竟依然在對岸吟唱著淫靡之曲
