And guys, I'm going to say this, Derek Fisher, you called it in the pregame.
You said it's going to be a cage fight and it's exactly what it was.
Nothing worth having in life.
We know this is easy and it certainly wasn't easy for the Lakers tonight.
I will say this timely shot, making timely stops down the stretch,
I would say by a collective.
And then, of course, behind that of a historic performance for LeBron
James becomes the oldest player in NBA history to drop 20 and 20
in a postseason game at 38 years old in season 20.
45 minutes from the King and the Lakers now are the third seventh
seed ever to take a 3-1 series lead in the first round.
Best of 7, 117-111 over the Grizz
heading back to Memphis for game five on Wednesday.
Do you fish?
Yeah, no, I was.
You have to give the guys a lot of credit.
Like there were moments as that second half was playing out
where it looked like Memphis was going to take control of the game.
But, you know, the playoffs are so exciting for so many reasons.
But there's like these opportunities where your your character,
like who you are, really has an opportunity to come out.
D'Angelo Russell had been really struggling.
And in that fourth quarter, those threes that he made
that just kind of changed the momentum.
I think the Grizzlies were up nine.
He makes two threes.
There's another possession, a couple in between.
He makes another three.
That really got the crowd back into this game.
And then the Lakers really took it from there.
And Anthony Davis, four blocks, even though he didn't shoot well,
like he still made the Grizzlies think about driving to the basket.
Some of the charges that LeBron took, like you have to
be out of character almost to win playoff games.
It's not going to look the same way and look for you in the regular season.
So I give the guys a lot of credit.
They're up three, one opportunity to close Memphis out in Memphis,
which for a veteran, that's a lot of fun.
Well, doing that big game, man.
I have been so excited
since the Lakers won game three.
I haven't been this excited since 2010.
I enjoyed the bubble championship and but
you just and Alan, you pointed it out the other night.
You feel something in that arena when the fans
cover you with that kind of support.
And let me give one just.
Man, that was that was that was such a beautiful game.
What we've been looking for brass
to have that collective effort.
And it's good to have a coach here who understands those
sequences goes on because the game was getting away from them.
They were down five or six.
And I was listening to the game on the radio as I was driving back.
And Michael Thompson kept on saying, we just need a big three.
We just need one to get us back.
And D'Angelo Russell, who hadn't been performing,
I mean, he hadn't been hitting the shots, but it doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter.
It just matters when you do it, especially in the playoffs.
And and he was able to do it.
Braz, it was just a beautiful game.
I know you got a lot to say about LeBron.
Not right now.
We'll get your thoughts on the other side.
We're going to go back downtown.
Andy is so excited.
All right, Anthony Davis, you guys take a three one lead here.
You and LeBron have kind of taken turns taking things over for one another.
You made a couple of huge plays down the stretch.
20 rebounds, that huge and one.
What's it been like playing with LeBron?
What did he do down the stretch?
Yeah, we got that chemistry.
Obviously, tough performance for me tonight on the offensive end.
And he just took over down the stretch.
Got us a bucket of going over time.
Nilo with two huge threes that hit us back in the game to cut it to one.
Dennis playing through, you know, his pain.
Austin, Rui, all our guys, man.
It was a good team effort.
This team not going to go away.
And it was a must win game for us.
And we played well down the stretch and just covered for one another.
You mentioned the struggle that you had on the offensive end tonight.
What were you trying to do to get through that?
And what did you see as the reasons behind it?
Man, just keep playing.
You miss all the shots you don't take.
I mean, I'm going to keep shooting, make or miss what the team wants me to do.
That's what I have to do, continue to be aggressive
and to kind of open up everything for everyone else.
And, you know, when it counted, I got some tip ins to go ahead, free throw line.
Even though I missed the one.
Some rebounds, you know, just keep playing, man.
You know, you never know what could change a game.
And, you know, August, a rebound, D-Low hit a three, you know, that got us going.
So just keep playing and whatever it takes to win, just having the will to win.
It's a tough, physical Grizzlies team, A.D.
You mentioned not getting a lot going offensively,
but defensively it was there for you as a team.
Is that why you won the game?
Absolutely.
We got stops, once again, holding the team who can score and will to 111 points.
And, you know, we just fought, man.
We battled.
And that's it, man.
Defense is our, Bane's got it going.
It was a jaw-lasting game, but, you know, we overcame it and just kept pushing.
You need one more win to get out of this series.
What's going to be the key?
The defense, again.
And a better offensive performance for me.
But we're going to keep fighting.
We know it's tough to win there.
We know that we can win there.
But they're going to come out desperate and hungry.
And we got to, we got to match that and surpass that,
especially in a tough environment.
Thanks, Anthony.
Thank you.
To add to that stat, 2020, it's the first Lakers since Shaq in 04 to put up a 2020 game.
Big game.
I think the biggest thing here is he said it after game three.
We saw a lot from him mentally and his ability to get his team on the same
wavelength and really dominate game three from start to finish.
But I think to doing whatever it takes, as Brez mentioned, whatever the game
demands of him at that time to win, not trying to do too much, but doing just
enough and what it takes, that's what you really saw from him tonight.
Yes.
Stays in the moment.
You know, 20 of those rebounds were five or more offensive rebounds.
There you go.
At 38, to be able to do what he does, take it to the cup with strength like
that, and also engage his teammates into what's possible, that's what it's about.
At this level, he's playing it.
It's about enrolling his teammates while he's continuing to do what he does.
And he's, he's, he's a true leader.
It's a nice game to play in one playoff game and or to win one playoff game.
It is exhausting beyond measurement.
And, and so to think about, to James's point, to think about that in his 20th
season, with all the games he's played, all the playoff games, he's led his
teams to victory, the championships won, to still have the commitment to putting
that much energy into helping his team, right?
Like it's hard to put into words, like how special it is.
Um, and that's why, you know, we get to enjoy it, watching it here on a nightly
basis.
You can tell that, which was different than some of the teams over the years
that he's been here.
Like, I feel like this group of guys appreciates who he is and what he does
almost more than some of the other collection of guys that have been in the
same locker room with him.
Like it's clear that they follow him, even though they need Anthony Davis to be
the best player on the floor every night.
So it's an interesting kind of dynamic that this team is, is, is, uh, has found.
Uh, and it's leading to success, but it, it starts with him and, um, it would be
easy for him to do it differently.
And he chooses not to, like he made a pass, he drove and made a pass to Rui
Hachimora in the corner that the person that has scored the most points in the
history of the NBA could have just gone up to lay it up himself, but that's how
committed he is to like serving his teammates, which is why he's at the top
of every list you can think of.
It's like when you give to others, like it comes back to you.
And that's why I think it may be the first time we've ever seen a player like
this.
We've seen some great ones, but at this age and the miles that he has and what
he's doing at this point in his career, it's the first time we've seen it.
Kobe was great.
Michael was great.
Kareem, but it's the first time we've ever seen a guy at this age, be this
productive and continuous success.
It's amazing.
Special, inspiring, fun to watch.
We're going to head back downtown, but before we do, I got to ask you, how do
you think our friend Geet's doing?
I'm glad the paramedics are near.
We will be checking in with him coming up for the show.
