The space
***After a seven month hiatus, we are opening our guesthouse for longer-term stays of between 5 and 30 days. Please email us if you don't see future dates available. As public health professionals, we adhere to the strictest cleaning guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, requiring 48 hours between stays, and taking extra care to disinfect frequently touched surfaces between guests. The guesthouse is a separate building with a private entrance, so you'll never need to come into contact with us.
If you're visiting from outside of Portland, face coverings are required in all indoor public spaces, and many attractions, restaurants and businesses remain closed. Due to social distancing requirements, only registered guests are allowed in the guesthouse.

Guests walk into our 515-sq-foot guesthouse and are awed by the openness of our small space and the beauty of natural sunlight created by 21 windows and skylights. After checking in, a recent guest wrote us just to say: "I've stayed at a fair number of Airbnbs, but none of them have evoked the reaction of "Wow, I want to live here! "
We spent two years thoughtfully designing a space that we would want to live in and that would serve as a home-away-from-home for our friends and family, and as a small gathering place for our community. Inspired by a trip to Iceland, every detail is considered—wood salvaged from demolished Portland bungalows, 99% recycled kitchen cabinets, energy efficient heating/AC, locally sourced materials like beautiful, Doug Fir stairs, floor-to-ceiling tile, curated art from local artists, an outdoor shower and semi-private gardens.
Our attention to detail extends to our selection of appliances and furnishings. The open, wood loft features a cozy queen bed with a high-pile rug and Pendleton blankets. The couch folds out to another queen-size bed complete with plush sleeping pad, linens and down comforter.
Our FULL, WELL-STOCKED KITCHEN features an electric range and stove, fridge, electric kettle, toaster, blender, new stainless steel pots and pans, baking essentials, loaded spice rack, and a few different ways to make your coffee. The wall-hung kitchen table expands to create an intimate dining space for two.
The bathroom features floor-to-ceiling tile, thermostatic rain shower, washer and dryer and small cadet heater to keep the space extra warm in the winter. Need anything else? Let us know.
SEMI-PRIVATE GARDENS, PATIO and OUTDOOR RAIN SHOWER
The guesthouse has two semi-private patio gardens. The back patio features a hot outdoor shower crafted from salvaged materials that drains into a rain garden, as well as a cozy seating area and ambient patio lights. You also have access to a private front patio with intimate bistro dining table overlooking a quiet garden. Surrounding the main and guest house is our permaculture-based, native edible garden full of blueberries, raspberries, elderberries, apples, Asian pears, Mirabelle plums, Stella cherries, grapes, figs, hops, currants, Goumi berries and more. Depending on the season, we’d love to offer up some of our fresh vegetables and fruits such as heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, arugula, lettuce, kale, collards, sugar snap peas, purple beans and more. Feel free to walk around a check out our front patio and rain garden, which captures rain from our roof.
A few things to note: We live on a 5000 sq ft Portland lot. While the guesthouse has its own private entrance and semiprivate patios, the south side windows overlook our backyard with grape arbor and dining terrace.
The Arborhouse doesn't have a television. If you would like to curl up on the couch and watch a movie, we provide a Bluetooth speaker and WIFI to use with your tablets, iphones, ipad or computers.
