Kendrick Perkins joins Stan Verrett on SportsCenter to break down the impact of Steph Curry and Kevon Looney for the Golden State Warriors in their Game 3 win vs. the Sacramento Kings. He also discusses Devin Booker and Kevin Durant leading the wary for the Phoenix Suns in their victory vs. the Kawhi Leonard-less LA Clippers.
Kendrick Perkins with us to
break down what we saw Thursday
night in the NBA.
Let's start with the Kings and
Warriors.
We haven't seen the Warriors in
this position in this
incarnation of the franchise.
The four championship brings
down two games.
Steph Curry's given he had to
lead his team and he did.
Let's talk about Kavon Looney.
He had four points in this game
but 20 rebounds including nine
on the offensive glass and nine
assists per nine assists.
But we always sleep on Kavon
Looney but we have to remember
for last year he was huge and
they run.
He's the unsung hero and he
always plays his role.
We hear the praises about how
Steve Kerr talk about this man
all the time.
But I thought he was a force in
the paint.
He was a beast for us protecting
the basket and on the boards he
killed the Sacramento Kings
tonight.
And he was a major reason why
the defense was so great for the
Golden State Warriors.
All right.
They held Sacramento to 38
percent shooting from the floor.
Twenty four percent from three
point range.
Did they find something in this
game that we're going to see the
best of this year especially
without Draymond Green.
Yeah.
Yeah they found heart on the
defensive end.
That's what they found.
They found their hearts.
But credit to Steve Kerr.
I thought he did a hell of a job.
I know you challenge.
I did.
And he responded in great
fashion.
I thought he did a great job for
his game plan.
I thought they mixed up their
coverages a little bit every
now and then they would show a
trap.
They would mix up they shows
things to that nature.
Again Steph Curry led the
charge.
We have to remember this guy
plays with a lot of pride.
Yeah you know he he he loves
those bounce back moments.
And you heard his little slogan
after the game you know
something about along the lines
of Draymond got a history.
They say Draymond got a history
but we do too.
Yeah.
So you love that version of
Steph Curry.
Yeah with a shooter you never
know what you're going to have
off night.
He could not have won in this
game and did not.
Yeah it was that game.
So all right.
Meanwhile the Clippers have
some serious issues to deal
with in terms of how to deal
with Kevin Durant and Devin
Booker together.
Booker forty five on twenty nine
shots Durant twenty eight on
fifteen shots.
How do you deal with that.
It's hard and it's it's it's
it's really hard.
Look it's really hard thing
when you don't have we don't
have Kawhi or PG to Max the
right match the star power.
But if I'm the Suns yes you take
the win.
But I'm not satisfied with this.
Yeah.
They didn't show championship
level basketball today and I
thought the Clippers handed them
everything that they possibly
could with the personnel that
they have.
But again Devin Booker is just
so spectacular for shot making
and getting to his spots and
being strong.
And they had to win 20 free throw
attempts in the third quarter
which is huge.
They was aggressive getting to
the basket and Tyloo turned
Norman Powell loose.
And I think that could be
something that plays out in the
series because it's still
serious.
It is.
And this was this is why I was
so mad today on NBA today when
we found out that Kawhi was a
plan because I strongly believe
that if Kawhi was playing even
without PG the Clippers were
winning this series.
And so when you look at the
depth that the Clippers have
Norman Powell Russell Westbrook
Bones Holland those guys I mean
those guys are capable of
lighting you up for big nights.
Norman Powell had a 40 piece
tonight.
Absolutely.
Like we always talk about one
side of the basketball the
offensive side of basketball
things but we never talk about
defense when it comes down to
teams winning championships.
And that's very very concerning
when it comes to the Phoenix
Sun.
