Nicolas de Grigny (1672-1703): Cromorne en taille à 2 parties [Nenad Leonart]
Late night playing in Wasselonne... on the 1745 J. A. Silbermann historic organ! This is the third piece from de Grigny's famous Messe pour orgue (Mass for organ) printed back in 1699 in the "Livre d'Orgue", which contains this organ mass and other pieces by Nicolas de Grigny.
As always, de Grigny goes over the top with his arrangement of the third part of the Kyrie. What usually is a "Cromhorne en taille" – one sololist reed recitativo voice on Positif in the tenor range played with the left hand, with a slow accompaniment on the Grand Orgue and Pedalle, he obviously deems not interesting enough... and composes a 5-part counterpoint with not one, but two solo voices. And they are magnificent together! Those dissonances really make the Cromorne shine like no other piece I ever heard.
