We were taken to a local Kadazan cultural village, one of the traditional headhunter tribes of Sabah, Malaysia. I got taught some of the traditional games and techniques, saw some traditional dance and tasterd the local food. And yes - my pineapple knowledge is poor I know. But you learn something new every day! Thanks to AJs Best Travels for setting it up!
I am always searching for new music, if you would like me to feature and credit one of your tracks - please contact me on Facebook or via email. Thanks!

FAQ:
How did you learn to edit? I taught myself. I downloaded Premiere Pro and began to figure out how to use it through trial and error. My videos were pretty bad at first but eventually, and with the help of many tutorials, you start to figure out what works.
What work are you doing? I started off running this video blog while doing freelance web design and video editing to supplement my travelling lifestyle. I now rely solely on this blog to generate revenue through advertising, affiliate links, Patreon and sponsorship opportunities.
How do you meet the people in your videos? Hostels, guesthouses and conversations! You meet people so easily while travelling. Just open yourself up and you will meet all sorts of amazing people. ' Where do you live? I now live in Indonesia while travelling to lots of destinations. I have a flat in Jakarta and I regularly return there.
Any more questions, please post in the comments below!
You broke it!
It's okay.
I broke it.
Good morning and welcome back to Malaysia.
I'm just outside Kota Kinabalu right now
walking towards a Karazhan local village
and that music you can hear in the background
is the welcome song.
I'll tell you more in a second.
Okay, so the name of this place is Taga Village.
I'm here with Abigail.
Thunder Abs!
Thunder Abs from Hits FM.
I'm going to keep throwing that in.
Oh no!
And Sophie from AJ Travels
who's sorted this out today.
And yeah, we're going to explore around here
and I'll fill you in some more information once I know it.
But first breakfast.
Yeah okay, first breakfast.
There you go.
Some traditional music.
Pretty awesome.
And now we're going to go on a bit of a hike again.
I'm not sure exactly where
but let's find out.
I know nothing about today by the way.
You can't tell already
but I'm told it should be a good day.
These are traditional leaves that they use as plates.
Okay.
A long time ago.
For meals.
Before they started using banana leaves.
Yeah, sure.
So you use these as a plate.
Yeah, it's a plate.
So after you finish stuff that you want to eat
you just take like part of the leaves
just use it as a spoon.
Oh nice.
Nicer I guess compared to the waterfall
that we went to yesterday.
Oh yeah, so we did the four-hour hike yesterday
up to the waterfall and back
and at least this hike is only 15 minutes.
My legs are pretty tired right now.
Worth it though.
These are pineapples.
All right, so check it out guys.
This is a pineapple plant
and I don't know how many of you knew
that they come from the floor.
I feel like most people should know
they come from the floor
but I always used to think that pineapples came from trees
but yeah, once this is ready you put it up
and that's a pineapple.
I always used to think that pineapples came from trees
when I was growing up.
And there's one there.
Is this a small one?
See?
Wow, so I was even wrong about that.
Okay.
You do not pull them up.
They grow like this.
It's amazing.
I never knew that even.
I feel stupid again now
because I thought that you pulled them up
and pineapples came from under the ground
but they sprout on top like that.
And probably most of you watching already knew that
but hey, I'm learning.
Wow, okay.
So this one's almost ready.
That one there too.
There's another one there.
Yeah.
This is what happens in real life.
Oh wow.
So this is a rubber tree
and this lady's just showing us how you actually get rubber
from a rubber tree.
You want to give it a try?
Okay, so what did I do?
What did she do?
Just like that?
How did you do it?
Like that?
You can actually do it from here.
Here, that one.
But still, what do I do?
Learning how to get rubber.
Like that?
And then it comes out like this.
Oh wow.
Come on, be a man, Jordan.
And that comes out, right?
Just pull it.
She says just pull it out.
Pull what out?
No clue.
Put it a bit of a back and forth.
That's okay, you've done a good job.
And we've also just been led to a much smaller
group of waterfalls than yesterday.
Whoa, okay.
Almost fell.
But it's still cool.
I'm always happy to chase waterfalls.
I hope I don't fall though.
Thinking about it, I'd say about 50% of my vlogs
in the last couple of weeks have featured a waterfall.
Not on purpose, but they are cool.
Yeah.
All right, there you go, guys.
Go follow her on Instagram, ThunderRabs.
Link below.
And I made a dog.
What's one more waterfall, huh?
This is the end of the trail now,
and now we're going to head back to the village.
Back to the village now,
and this guy here is going to show us
how to blow the blow dart pipe thing at this target.
Okay.
How do you do it again?
Like that, right?
Okay.
You have to like, hold in your breath again.
And then like, let go.
Deep breath.
Go, Jordan, go!
Oh, yay, you did it.
Good try.
You're good.
Okay, my turn.
Oh, at least it's stuck there.
It's bouncing.
Oh, yes.
Ah, you're accurate.
Oh, okay.
Really far back.
It's close.
Nice.
Yeah, they're close every time.
That throw.
You broke it!
I broke it.
I don't even know how I did that.
It's okay.
Oops.
I was just trying the catapult,
and somehow I broke the catapult.
I'm sorry.
Ready?
Lead the way.
Excuse me.
So, Sophie, this is a fish spa, right?
Yeah.
Okay, wow.
Put your fingers here.
Okay.
It's going to be a bit ticklish.
How are your feet?
I don't like it.
It's really, really ticklish.
Okay.
All right, let's try this.
Okay, piece of the fish.
Cool, right.
Now I'm going to head back in.
It's typhoon season here right now,
and so it's just started daily rain for today,
which is pretty heavy.
But luckily, right now is where we are being treated to some local food.
Just going to have some lunch and wait out the rain.
Okay.
Right, so we've got local nasi goreng,
local fried rice,
jackfruit and dried fish.
With salted fish.
Cassava leaves.
Yeah, cassava leaves with some vegetables in,
bit of fish there as well.
Yeah, there's salted fish as well.
Salted fish.
This one?
I think that's cassava.
I have no clue.
I'm lost too.
Patula.
So this is a patula,
and I have no idea what that is,
if that's an English word or not.
But...
No, it's a kettle then.
This is patula.
We were just treated to a cultural performance,
and then got to try out the instruments as well,
which went okay, I guess.
I've never had much rhythm.
Just in case I haven't mentioned it already,
this is a Kadazan local village.
And Kadazan is one of the ethnic groups of Sabah,
of Malaysian Borneo.
And they were traditionally headhunters,
as far as I know.
Obviously not doing that anymore.
You can look up more information about them,
and about the ethnic groups of Malaysia,
if you want to.
Really unexpected morning.
I didn't know any of this was happened.
It was all arranged by AJ's Travels,
so thank you to them.
Again, look them up if you're interested,
if you're ever in KK.
I'll put a link to their site in the description.
And yeah, I just had a moment where
I just feel really grateful to be here in Malaysia,
doing this sort of thing.
Sometimes it can be easy to take it for granted,
because I do it so often.
But I've really just taken stock this morning,
and thought like,
wow, this is really cool.
I'm really lucky.
And that's purely because of you guys watching,
so thank you.
And I hope I continue to show you more cool places.
I think we're just about finished here now,
so we're going to head back to Kota Kinabalu.
Back in the center of KK now,
and grabbing even more food,
because it's so damn good here.
Food finished,
and we decided it'd be a good idea
to climb up this giant set of stairs
to the observation tower,
because apparently there's a really good sunset up there.
Well, what better way to finish the day
than with an epic sunset over KK?
I didn't mean to rhyme then.
Anyway, thanks for watching,
and this is my life.
