Take a step inside the wonderful world of Barbara and Kevin McLaughlin. As the Co-Founder and Creative Director of J.Mclaughlin, an American heritage brand, Kevin and his wife Barbara, President of the Fund for Park Avenue, have designed their Upper East Side townhouse, with the help of architect Doug Larson, to be as whimsical and inspiring as the dresses so famous to J.McLaughlin.

Perched in New York City’s Upper East Side, the townhouse is five stories of fabulous and inspiring design. From the bright chartreuse front door to the terrace, no detail goes unnoticed. When entering the home, visitors are greeted with an exquisite staircase covered in a wildly fantastic leopard-print runner. Latticework and mirrors envelope the entire kitchen creating a grand and expansive feeling while inviting the outdoors inside. On the fifth floor of the home, the McLaughlins worked with their architect to open up the space and inevitably created the nicest guest suite in Manhattan. The suite is essentially a penthouse sitting atop a townhouse, just as architect Doug Larson planned. Steel doors in the guest suit lead out to a terrace with a breath taking view of Midtown Manhattan.

When asked what their must-haves were in the home, Barbara said that the outdoor space and built-in bookcases in their library/study were the two elements that made this house a home for them. Barbara, an avid reader, has filled these shelves from top to bottom with exquisite literature. Keeping the home warm and inviting is a top priority. For every painted surface, they have matched it with a warm wood surface or plant.
