Today was the first day of spring training and I was giddy. Baseball is back.
So here's what happened in Yankees camp. If you're not a Yankees fan and you don't care, simply don't watch.
Maybe it's not for you. Mike King on the bump. First pitch, out.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Clint catches it. Feeling good. Two pitches later, fly ball. Another out.
Except Judge doesn't go full dive. He goes a little shoestring-ish catch. Pops out of his glove. I was happy. I was fine.
Don't dive yet, big man. Save all the dives for the season. We go walk. Hit by pitch. Skinny Vlad's on first.
Skinny Rowdy pops one down the line, over the fence, under the foul pole.
Trick shot galore from Rowdy. Tellaz. And the Blue Jays take an early lead.
And then you have a ball that is fair or foul or I don't know. But the ump says foul. Voight acts as if it was fair to finish a play.
And he says, you know what? Let's test everything out. You guys want to go to replay real quick?
Spring training jokes. Up the middle. Glaber makes a nice play on short.
It's not a spectacular play, but it's a nice play. And Glaber's defense is something of a question this season.
So good to see that on the first day of baseball. This little kid wants a ball.
And everyone's pointing at him. Fingers to the left, fingers to the right, saying throw it to him. Throw it to him. Throw it to him.
They throw it way above. Little kid's like, what? That wasn't to me. This guy goes, oh, come on.
The dude who gets it, gives it to the kid, shakes the dad's hand, rubs the kid's head, pats on the back for the kid,
pats on the back for Straw Hat. Everyone's happy. It's spring training, land of eternal optimism.
Now we got a ground ball to Andujar. Will he make a play? Yeah, with his brain.
Lets it go foul. Andujar crushing it in third base so far. Torinos chases Rowdy Tellaz back to second base.
Don't you stray too far. I may be a vet. I'll throw you out. DJ opens up the hitting for the Yankees.
Judge, good contact on this one, goes to the wall. Juiced ball, is that a home run?
Are we looking at dead ball syndrome? Who knows? I'm in favor of the dead balls.
Glaber had a nice hit. Then Voight puts one to the backhand. He misses it.
Barehand grab, glove grab. No, just drops all around. Spring training for everyone, even me.
This is the second recording of this I did because I used the wrong mic. Adam Warren, old friend Adam Warren.
He's got a 3-2 count. He shakes off the catcher with two outs. He says, no, I don't want to throw that.
I want to throw a change up. Get some looking. 78. It's spring training. You're number 78.
It's a 3-2 pitch. You got to be swinging there, in my opinion, which don't factor, in my opinion,
into your professional baseball career at all. Rob Brantley goes big fly.
And this dude, all the way on the right, covers ground. Tracking it, tracking it, sees it.
Beats out White Shirt to the ball, boxes him out, grabs it, dances his little butt off,
like, you know, kicking the butt as he runs, and then hands it to a girl.
It's spring training. Everyone's happy. Life is beautiful.
Tauchman goes, bam! Launched it into right field.
He's got a roster crunch playing against him, so he's got to perform.
I'm rooting for him, too. Rooting for everyone. Rooting for this dude. I don't know his name,
but he's got Roger Mayer sleeves. He's going to lean over the railing. He's going to make the grab.
Yup! Let's go! Oh, yes! Yankees baseball is back, and my highs have turned into hearts,
and they're bouncing off of my face. I'm just a drooly cartoon character.
We'll be live tomorrow on the Talkin' Yanks YouTube channel after Cole and Tyone pitched
to record our regular Monday episode. We're pushing it back a little bit,
but so subscribe to Talkin' Yanks if you're a Yankee fan, or you just want to keep up with
me and Jake and the Yankees and enjoy baseball, because it's back, and they're playing.
Spring training will be fun for a little bit, and then it'll be so boring,
and then opening day will be amazing.
