Is Tax Reform Possible? | George Orwell 1984 (Milton Friedman) | from Not An Economist channel
Thank you Twister for the narration!
One of my favorite books is 1984 by George Orwell, not only because it is as relevant today as it was when it was written, but also because this book illustrates exactly how one's mind can be corrupted through the use of language, control of information, and manipulation. You might say: "What does 1984 have to do with taxes, I don't remember a single reference to taxation by George Orwell." Well, the reason it is relevant because governments and politicians are using exactly the same paradoxical slogans of Newspeak to mislead the population and increase taxes. No matter where your stand is on taxation, we can all agree that we have gone overboard with it and that the results are discouraging. I hope that by questioning these issues we can educate more people and arrive to a better, more prosperous future.
